The PhotoJoseph channel is all about the camera… still photography, video and cinematography, live streaming, lighting, microphones, drones… if it's got a camera on it, in it, or attached to it, it's fair game! I emphasize gear and technique, balanced between equipment reviews and how-to's. DaVinci Resolve, Lightroom and other photo and video software makes their way into the shows, too.
I'm a Panasonic LUMIX Ambassador, so my camera emphasis is always on the Panasonic LUMIX gear, like the GH7, S5II, etc. I live stream regularly and have built up a broadcast studio that rivals small TV networks, and show off the Blackmagic ATEM Mini and their line-up regularly.
I also do commercial work for clients using all the techniques I talk about here- the best way to get good at something is to do it in the real world! And finally, yes I do offer individual consulting. Visit PhotoJoseph.com/1to1 to book a private session with me!
Not an all-in-one. They have the Television Studio 4K which is $5,000 but does not include recording. You can add 4K recorders; either one for the Program or as many as you want for each input to record and pass-through. Of course the intention is that you’ll record 4K or 6K in-camera, but if you needed to do it externally, you could. You would however NOT be getting an XML file.
Amazing video! I wish the ATEM ISO already generated a true multicam sequence for you so you didn't have to go through all these steps, but glad there is a way to do it. Yaay! :)
12:00 the 10bit “rumor” part for the ATEM comes from the fact (as far as the official video release goes anyway) that the ATEM *internally* works in 10 bit, and is seemingly compatible with 10 bit HDMI outputs from the Studio cameras for example IIRC.
That is correct. The ATEM is a 10-bit workflow, while the RØDE is 8-bit. The recordings, as you saw of course are only 8-bit. But I tested this because the commenter insisted that the ATEM recording was 10-bit. Unless I misread the comment, which is entirely possible!
@@photojoseph I commented quickly and pressed Reply too soon (got interrupted ahah), but thank you for the video by the way :D This kind of demonstrated FAQ format is perfect to clear everything !!
Who streams in 4K? Almost no one. Outside of the YOLO Ultra (which I’ve not tested in 4K), a true 4K streaming solution is easily a $10,000 investment. It’s far far more involved than most people realize.
Knowing Rode products they lack listening to feedback and implementing much needed features. I don't expect supporting transparent videos, XML, and multi stream. The Yololiv and ATEM are winners depending on the outcomes.
@@photojoseph I have their RodeCaster Pro V1. Rode just let that fall by the wayside. I had hopes they would continue support the product software. Which led me to think if I get the RodeCaster Video and connect to usb-c for audio. I'd have 8 audio channels. Just a thought 🤔
@@photojoseph interesting. What I like about the RoderCaster Video is the PiP templates. I'm looking at the AtomosX Cast which lacks ISO. ISO is a must for me. Aside from that ... I got the Shogun Ultra and love the Atomos Cloud options to Frame IO. Atomos Cloud seems to have multistream
I almost pulled the trigger for this until I realized it was NOT a recorder. That would have been a too-good deal when it comes to camera gear. I just want to record 10-bit out for my Fujifilm X-S10, but there aren't recorders for my budget that do this. I regret not buying an X-T4 instead. Well, the difference would have been pretty much the same as Atomos Ninja V or Blackmagic Video Assist 12G.
Ah yeah, definitely not a recorder. I think the Ninja V is a better value and you can probably get one used for cheap. They’ve been around for a while. I really like the video assist as well but it can be expensive. Of course if you want ProRes raw or Blackmagic raw then that dictates the recorder you buy.
excellent presentation but would have been better much slower so one could follow with LR open in another monitor. When you brought up the DNG converter would have been nice to know about it. If one has a profile can it not be part of the develop settings on import?
Please help, I do have a question, does both Type C to the computer work as a capture card or only a specific one. That is something I really hated on the Streamer X, that only usb 1 had the option to see the video fee.
I’m just rebooting my photography skills (used to shoot chrome on Nikon back in the 90s) and I’ve switched to Sony - specifically for video - but I did by the A1 and a set of GM lenses - and I don’t wanna pay subscriptions 🤬 so I’m definitely moving over to DXO… ONE Question: I have the option to run this on OLED Asus Windows PC or a M1 MacBook Pro… wonder which handles “still” editing… best?
Did you have an issue with the onscreen record button not becoming functional until only after you had hit record on the camera first and then turn it off? It is “greyed” out on the unit unless I start to record and then stop on camera first then it will allow me to use the units record feature. This is when using the S5ii.
Hm, no. Are you sure I’ve pressed the camera button on the Shogun? That enters the “camera control” mode. That’s where you can change camera settings and also start/stop recording.
@@photojoseph yes I’m in that mode and it starts off greyed out until I do what I described in my comment only then will it work. Maybe it needs to be updated which I have not checked yet. Thanks for responding back. Appreciate it and enjoy your channel!
As you saw with the WebCam tests, some things work and some things do not. I haven’t tested either of those so I would say without further testing, I don’t know.
Also I am thinking about getting riverside software . Do you think that would be a good combo for a video podcast that will be doing call ins, live guests and reaction videos? Not sure how Riverside and this piece of equipment will work together yet.
I cant help but feel this should have been a Blackmagic X Rode product. Put some of the video features of rode into the already superior versatility of an ATEM Mini Extreme Take the sound features & expertise of the Rodecasters into it = perfect product
I wonder if it has glitches or video dropouts like the Yolobox ultra?I really like the ultra but just like the YBP it can’t be relied on for corporate events.Ive had glitches and drop outs at a few different events.I may just have to try this to test the reliability!
@@photojoseph But the Rodecaster Video's outputs only output in 8bit (according to B&H). Would then that mean less quality compared to the 10bit HDMI outputs within the Atem Mini Extremes if recorded with the Atomos? I think so, but I am not 100%sure.
@@photojoseph I did watch it all. But my concern is about that the HDMI outputs are only 8bit (on top of the internal recording you tested), and that is a let down because even if the Ninja V records at 10bit; with an 8bit signal feed from the Rodecaster Video, the Ninja V’s 10bit encoding capsule will still only get 8bit worth of color information. The Atems (at least the Extreme I have) outputs 10bit from its HDMI outputs. That is a real dealbreaker for me only because I already have an Extreme unit. 😔
I see. But tell me; why does 10-bit matter there? By the time the signal has gone through the switcher, it’s been colored - you’re not streaming Log, so you’ve already applied a look. If you want 10-bit to grade, then you should be capturing the log video image before it’s gets a look and is sent to the switcher. So either record Log in-camera, or insert a recorder between the camera and the switcher. I’m not saying there’s zero benefit to a 10-bit colored image, but the advantage is minimal. Am I missing something?
Rode are very lucky to have fantastic third party presenters like you to help them sell this excellent looking product. It’s getting hate for the 1080p but I have cameras like the FX6 and Fx30 that I’m sure will still look good enough with studio lighting etc
I appreciate that. I’m actually really surprised at the disdain for 1080p. Literally, I *myself* am the only person I know crazy enough to stream in 4K. It’s a pain in the ass for so many reasons. Yet, people are whining about it. I think they’ve never done it and haven’t got a clue what it takes.
I think also they want it to both livestream where they take the 1080 hit AND simultaneously record 4K 10 bit video files like I’m currently doing to cards. I’m being realistic and solely seeing this as an epic livestream tool
@@smallbizdigitalmedia sure but you don’t need a 4K streamer for that. Record internally in 4K and stream in HD. You can do that with ANY streaming hardware and a decent camera today. And have been able to for years.
Having not live-streamed before are you saying that I can use the Rodecaster Video for that and record 4K footage at the same time internally to the Sony camera cards? I did not think that was possible as they would be configured in the livestream setting?
I’m not a Sony user, but this has nothing to do with live stream settings. Many cameras (like my LUMIX cameras) can record 4K internally while outputting either 4K or HD over the HDMI. Some of the lower end models can’t output HDMI while recording, but most of them do.
No question the RCVideo has the best Audio. But it video is lacking. My RCP2 for Audio + my YoloBox Ultra is a 'much' better total package (yes it more $$$) but I had (like a lot of people) already have a RCP2 buying this thing is basically buying another RCP2. Not something I would recommend except to a few people
Can you control and make changes to the settings on the RodeCaster Video from one computer (e.g. plugged in via USB or connected over Ethernet), while having another computer, plugged in via USB, see the RodeCaster Video as a webcam? Use case is you want to utilise the benefits of camera switching and audio mixing on a computer that isn’t running Rode Central but want to maintain fine grained control of available video / audio options.
I am getting errors all over the place when trying to add media files, its not sized right, frame rate is off, vertical video as an example does not save, no one is reporting this so far so would love to know if the device handles any media you throw at it
Video has to be 1920x1080 MP4, that’s in the manual. Framerate should always be at the same as your device is set to for best performance; I doesn’t test if uploading alternate frame rates worked or not.
Thanks so much for these tests! Can you do that same HDMI output test of an Atem Mini Extreme? Or something you'd consider comparable to the RCV. 8 frames seems....like it may be more than I'm used to.
It’s only three from the RCV; remember five were from the camera (lumix cameras unfortunately have quite a delay). I should test that at some point but haven’t.
Thanks for the awesome video. One thing I am curious about is if you are able to connect the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 to the RodeCaster video. I have tried connecting the Osmo Pocket 3 to the ATEM Mini Pro but it does not seem to detect the Pocket 3.
It's a type- C, so I purchased a HDMI to type-c. I plugged in the hdmi into the ATEM and the type -c to the DJI Osmo pocket 3, but nothing really happened.
It’s supposed to be video out over USB-C, like an iPad? The way to test is to plug that hdmi into anything else like a computer monitor and see if it gets a signal or not.
Great review. The xlr audio inputs alone make this system extremely attractive, along with the headphone jacks and aux audio outputs, Looks like a very well-thought-out product.
