HONEST REVIEW Overall 8/10!! *Animation* -I loved the style of the animation, it suits a show like this well and fits the art style. I love the way the characters move in this show, you don’t see this kind of flair in a lot of indie shows. The movements feel very nice. -however sometimes it feels off the only real criticism for the animation is that the dribbling basketball scene felt a little long.\ *Voice acting* -I see your point on the underrated voice actors. These people really deserve jobs and when I saw the show for the first time, this is how I would have imagined them sounding like. -Blake’s voice is a great voice but he seems more like a guide or some plot device to assist Layla especially with the voice *Writing* -This teaser is perfect at being a *teaser*. It doesn’t tell us too much, but tells us just enough to get hooked on the show. -Layla is written perfectly. She’s a good hearted cat who’s made past mistakes that lead to her situation, and I see that -Blake is my only problem. Again, it seems like his character is majorly dependent on Layla, like him believing in redemption comes to Layla’s convenience. Him seeming like a plot device to assist Layla is not what a main character should be. Also I hope we get to see more of what Blake’s personality is like in future episodes. that’s all!
@@turdguyyt7616 with how I'm going for the Pilot, there will be a reason Blake wished to help Layla in the first place. Adding in this 'mysterious' feel between the two was intentional to get viewers interested. Animation problem will be addressed and noted down for sure. I was mainly going with the flow of the song I used for this trailer. This is done to test the waters for this project, happy to see that you enjoyed it!
@@RagingRedPanda omg omg omg it’s raging red pandaaaaa This response to the review makes me more hyped for the pilot. glad to see you take criticism so well To clarify, the times the animation felt off were purely just personal to me. It’s perfectly fine I’m just picky when it comes to animation especially after getting recently way better at it.
Copy and paste review from me incoming I think Catching up is ok? But definitely mediocre.. There’s ALOT of empty space that dialog could fit, heck I could literally record the video and count up all the areas that were just silence. The humor is Slow The Pacing is slow Alot of the jokes miss The plot being clubbing just felt like it would be better off if it was made when the characters were more developed The cussing did not need to exist, people finding it funny are way too easy to please The emotional moments also felt forced, like it genuinely feels like they didn’t earn it Like sure the animation is good, but it doesn’t detract from the rest of the cartoon being mediocre Hopefully LS mark finds a decent way to get the writing to be faster and not have gaps of silence feel so large, Because I do want this cartoon to succeed
@@codes5_real first, define "copy" because I can assure you I never even knew about catching up around the time this trailer was in production. I've worked on this concept for as long as mark has with his. second, it was a opinion I have expressed and I keep it that way. Reading your comment made it sound like you're in denial that you aren't aware of me not hating everything about that pilot. Think before you speak.
I never understood the criticism “They used famous voice actors!” Like… ok? I don’t think that’s inherently evil. Isn’t the point of posting a pilot is for people to see it? I do agree that the voice actors should not be a selling point for people, but voice actors can still bring attention to it from people who wouldn’t have heard of the pilot otherwise. I do agree that lesser known voice actors should get recognition but you literally state that there ARE lesser known voices in the pilot, but that’s not as important as the voice actors who WERE widely recognized?
@@redguyslave409 by lesser I mean, barely. From what people have told me almost every VA is recognized from previous works. Sounds like you didn't listen in on my follow up video with this review
Tbh it was fine, but it was a pilot and his first ever time doing something like this so i hope he improves Also i like the animation at the start it was kinda ehh but got better And lastly the voice actor thing yeah he casted some of these actors 2-3 years ago so i can see why he picked popular people
l don't know what y'all are talking about i love the pilot amazing it's funny not too kid friendly and love the art style soo yeah but we all have opinions but i like it👍👍👍❤️❤️🔥
Hmm.. Imo: This is a copy and paste review from me incoming that sums up exactly of what I think so.. I think Catching up is ok?
Usually when I watch pilots I don't think too much of it as it's just a mini preview of what's to come in the future, there's no such thing as a perfect pilot and show as there will be mistakes no matter how hard it was worked on. (whether that be writing errors, animation errors, lack of designs etc.) What people refuse to understand is that no matter how popular a show is there will always be criticism one way or the other, even the biggest shows (Hazbin, Helluva, Lackadaisy, TADC) all have gotten criticism despite their popularity. You're doing great and did nothing but voice your opinion you're allowed to have, you didn't overall like the pilot so what? so many others felt the same and shouldn't be criticized or hated because you felt that way.
To be fair. You are speaking a lot of facts about catching up. Animation was great but the story was messed up. The internet needs to know what constructive criticism is.
People definitely didn't get the point of your video. It's a critique/review video. Criticism is important for creators to improve themselves when making a piece of media. Clearly, they didn't get the message and thought, "Oh, this dude is bashing on Mark and animation. Let's give him unnecessary backlash that's clearly unrelated to the topic, even though it's a review." Btw, this is referring to the "interesting" comments on your video. Not ALL of them. I'm not against Mark in any way. If he's happy with his series, then good for him! But it's necessary to point out flaws with his series so it doesn't end up like other animtated series that get muddled by bad writing, inconsistent animation, and a cast of overused famous VAs/celebrities. Small artists, animators, and VAs deserve love and support as much as they do! And I heavily support them too! Animation is very subjective, and people will have different tastes. Indie animation, in particular, CAN have flaws as much as streamline animation, but they can be improved upon in the future. I am also not a huge fan of Vivziepop's work. Do I hate her work? Absolutely not. Am I a fan of her work? Kinda, but not really. I decided to watch Helluva Boss and completely lost interest after Episode 3. Then again, I'm not hater of Vivziepop. Nor am I a hater of LS Mark. I watch his videos occasionally, and he seems pretty chill. I was considering watching Catching Up, but there were other animated series and short films I was more invested in; thus, I moved on from it. I decided to watch a review on the series which led me to your video. (You were also the reason I got into ANISAVA, which I found hilariously good.) Your points are valid, and I thanked myself for not watching it and boring myself. AGAIN, no hate to him. Did I find the premise boring? Yeah, it's been done way too many times that I'm just begging for something refreshing and new. Some were done WAY better than Mark's. Although he can do something greater with his pilot! He just needs to polish some things, hire some writers and animators, and he's good to go! Hopefully, episode 2 will dive into how the two main leads met and stuff. We'll just have to wait. I'm glad you're improving yourself from your review and not putting up with the pettiness from Mark's fans who think you're "unwantingly giving him hate" when you're not. All the power to you ^^
I found clay to be relatable and likable because I am sort of the same, I don't like to get out or interact much with others in person. Most of my interactions are online, doesn't mean I still don't get out and engage though, I simply prefer not to if I don't have to. But I will always do what it necessary in life.
I don't think you are entirely wrong, the swears are jarring alongside the factors you mentioned. a show shouldn't be edgy just for the sake of being edgy, there needs to also be substance to it as well, otherwise it is just bland schlock that doesn't blend together well.
I'd rather have a show written like mission hill then VIVZIEPOP I feel as though every is starting to go to that route when it comes to humor and comedy
The fact that I agree with you but you critic the humor and proceed to make the lame joke “Yeahhhh I don’t like Hazbin Hotel it’s bad much har har!” Not that I like Hazbin Hotel, but you made that point clear the first time
@@RagingRedPanda I apologize if it came off as rude, I did not except you to reply to it at all, I just didn't understand the third time you bring it up when Catching ups swearing jokes isnt even comparable to the unbearable sex jokes from Hazbin
@@redguyslave409no hard feelings. Reason for that is it isn't naturally spoken and forced when the characters do, that's what I took issue with. You are right though, her humor and writing in general is unbearable. luckily this pilot didn't rely too much on stale, unfunny sexual jokes. But it did have hints of it 2 to 3 times I believe. But I think the humor overall was never that funny at all. Mark needs to work on that, having Rob say "bitches" is the bottom of the barrel level of a comedic attempt if I ever seen one
