We are Carol & Ken a married retired couple who enjoy wild camping in our Consort Nova called Snoopy.
If you are here looking for WAYS TO SAY THANKS for the videos then the best way is to use the 'Buy me a coffee' button. 👍
We share tips on travelling in a small camper van. We focus on what we see and do rather than just being talking heads. If you are interested in nature, towns, a bit of history then give us a try.
People say our videos are relaxing to watch which is good to know in these troubled times. They are designed to be binge watched and dovetail nicely together when watched via our playlists.
Put your feet up and give us a try when you feel like some arm chair travelling.
Note our Amazon storefront will not cost you any extra to use but we will get a small commission so please use it to help us offset our costs 👍
We are so behind on your vlogs. Enjoyed following your trip on this one. Led to an interesting discussion on if Redders is willing to try mackerel pate… looked fab to me, he thought 🤔 maybe… think I’ll just serve it up one day and see what he thinks 😂
Been diagnosed myself with pre diabetes, cut out all sugar , no potatoes no biscuits cakes etc , make my own bread , I’ve lowered my blood sugar . Bought a monitor and managed to keep a record 😊
Hi Ken and Carol, another very informative vid, try Artisan Sourdough bread, not the rubbish the supermarkets call sourdough, but the get the proper stuff from a quality bakers, it shouldn’t have any rubbish in it.
By doing your exercises you will probably be a previous ex policeman with exceptionally big muscles and that slim body. I guess Carol will be exeptionally excited.
A small suggestion only. If you take this as seriously as health care providers, and you should, Ken it should be on your list to MAKE SURE there is ALWAYS salad in the van and at home. Put it on your check list you use before you leave places.
All the best Ken x lots of love to you and Carol. I lost my husband when I was 53 and he was 62. Please work hard to stay alive. You owe it to yourselves. Much love x
The spike after the fall maybe due to something that was slow release possibly rice. The thing to remember is you have to manage the diabetes not kill it, this can be harmful in the opposite direction, too much exercise can lead to low blood sugar and creates tiredness and muscle aches. I have to manage calories because I've cancer which drags weight off so my daily chore is to ensure I eat enough calories to hold it steady and have to count every last mouthful. Presently that entails eating a highcarb protein diet, eggs, bread, potatoes and meat, but I can't have high fat items either.
Because big business have spent millions finding the perfect mix of ingredients to make us crave them. They are only interested in our money, their products make us ill and pass us onto the next big business Pharma. The weird thing is the longer you abstain the worst they taste. I have been reducing a lot of salt from my diet as I was a salt junkie. I tried some halepeno’s the other day we had in the fridge and they were so salty I couldn’t eat them. That never used to happen.
@@LifeistooshortCK processed food slowly killing us. Saying to my mate ,years ago you never saw many obese people. Maybe because everything was home cooked .convienience foods make it too easy. Can you still enjoy a pint?
Hi Ken, you mentioned fish and chips. One thing you can do now and then is the following: I know you don't like Keto diet but this is a Keto swap for chips (if you cut them fat like chips, which I do) and means when Carol (?) has Fish and Chips occaisonally you can make these (in advance and freeze raw in the chip shapes, if you prefer, but not necessary) and have the battered fish with her. Obviously there is batter on the fish and so its just an occaisonal treat. I prefer the coconut flour verson (she suggests that or ground almonds/almond flour) but I have made both. Go to youtube channel Heavenly Fan and search for the video called: How to make Keto French Fries/Keto, Vegan, Gluten Free. Hope this helps. One for the future I think?
Thank you Ken for these videos you are putting out, we watch all your videos, as I have said we are so sorry you have got Diabetes, but you are doing a great job on showing us all what you are doing to improve your health and many others that watch your videos, well done to you both. See you soon 😊😊
Excellent. The blood sugar level can increase sometimes during an exercise. It can happen at anytime, even for people who don't have diabetes. It's down to a certain type of hormones. They are called the glucose raising hormones. It doesn't happen everytine but it can.
Just wachted as usual and noticed that you are looking for a Bromton ,we have 2 that which have had very little use and are very local to you, if interested please contact, Paul
@@LifeistooshortCK we are away in the van at the moment in central France,be home in a few of days, they are in my garage at the moment. I can send you details when home.
Interesting video Ken, the rice you cooked and 're-cooked,according to my wife, a food nutritionist ,is a no no, a food hygiene risk. ,and you need smaller portions ,hope that helps
I think Carol is looking much more healthy. You both are looking good. We make Leek and Lentil Soup and that is yummy and very satisfying. Keep up the good work. We don’t eat much dairy and have had soy milk for years. We get Mountain Bread Down Under and that’s good in making wraps. You must have something similar in the Uk 🇬🇧
1. Great Taste Barley adds a delicious dimension to your baked products. It is often described as slightly "nutty" flavoured. 2. Contains Fibre Australians generally consume only half of the recommended dietary fibre per day. By substituting barley for all-purpose flour in everyday recipes, daily intake of fibre can be easily increased. Barley contains both insoluble and soluble fibre. Managing blood glucose levels is very important for people with diabetes. By eating foods that slow the release of glucose into the blood stream people with diabetes can avoid the peaks in blood glucose after meals. A study conducted by Hawrysh et al at the University of Alberta found that individuals with type 2 diabetes' blood glucose levels were improved (less severe peaks) while on a high fibre diet which substituted products made from barley flour for the other usual grain foods.
@@LifeistooshortCK the endocrine system is complex. Adrenaline affects blood sugar which is why excercise and stress can sometimes raise your readings. You’re doing all the right things without making life difficult 🏅
Extremely useful, my husband and I don’t have diabetes but we both need to loose weight, I’m going to try to eat our main meal at noon as well. Thank you for sharing your experience!
Great info, Ken. I was diagnosed with type 2, 6 years ago. It was dealt with by diet, but my stats never really improved. After one long Christmas celebration, I was told it had worsened. I went on a very strict diet, low carbs, etc. I was lucky enough to lose 3 stones in about 4 months. The good news is that 4 years later I am still prediabetic, even though my diet is more normal and I have gained some weight back. There is a school of thought that suggests a sudden weight loss can reverse the illness. Good luck with your journey.
To get a proper reading you are only suppose to take it first thing in morning before you eat it is suppose to be around 5 to 6 it’s called the resting reading, then at night two hours after eating your meal 7 to 8. You have to stop all the rice and pasta. Multigrain bread or wholemeal bread are the best. You can by low carb potatoes they are grown in sand. You have to go to podiatrists regularly to make sure your feet are healthy you get a diabetics check as this is where your problems start and if not looked after you could start to loose limbs. You also have to get eyes check for cataracts and your drivers licence will send you for eye checks. You have to be careful with cuts or sore as they are slow healing and you have to be very careful they don’t get infected, my husband got sceptacimia from a cut and had multiple operations to drain the infection it was a sore behind his knee
Amazon sells Ridgemonkeys. I could buy one today and get free shipping to arrive between Oct 25-Nov 15. The only reason I don’t get one is that it will not work with my electric stove. By the way, I live in Texas.
Well done, and keep it up. You are inspiring me to get going again. I chuckled at your last comment about the fiber in the Apple! We are at that shade now where these things are important!😅😉
