去年底被公司被公司裁員,現在是半退休狀態😅。 裁員是美國企業文化的 common practice。公司營運虧損會裁員,獲利沒有達到 wall street 的期待會裁員,甚至營運成長達標也可以裁員!九零年代末期就搞過一次,理由是為“可能的經濟不穩定因素“預作準備 lol 😂 。我個人甚至拿過沒有加薪的performance review (one of my best performance)! 後來我決定不玩了,薪水不到 market average 就直接換工作。因為內部𨍭工很少加薪,performance review 再好也要按現有薪水的percentage 來算。you know the trick. BTW,這是我第一次被裁,因為我之前jump ship 的時機都抓的很準😅。 沒有人喜歡裁員,就算你財務穩定也未必能淡然處之。不過它讓你去思考一件事情:你要完全𤔡公司服務還是為自己計劃人生。即使在100k 或 200k 員工的知名企業工作,我們真的跟上了科技的趨勢嗎?真正的創新往往發生在startup,因為它們“只能“往前走。知名企業的獲利模式已定,不能容許其他部門打著innovation 的口號來分享資源。如果你願意離開你的 comfort zone ,你會發現FAANG 之外的軟體工業是非常大的。

It is so informative, especially for me as someone who has never lived in New York before as an international student and who is deeply interested in living at I-House. I applied to I-House on May 1st and received an email for an interview. Did you by any chance also have an interview before getting accepted to I-House? Based on your experience of meeting other residents and hearing their stories, is getting an interview good news or bad news? I thought there wasn't an interview process at all.
