Can you advise where the bitumen ends and the dirt track starts?
@trip42australia
@trip42australia 2 дня назад
The bitumen road goes almost all the way to the Hann River Roadhouse, from memory when you get about 8km out you’ll start to drive on the gravel roads. As you head towards the top from Hann River the road changes between gravel and bitumen several times. We set our tyre pressure to 30PSI and didn’t have to many problems. We had a few screws rattle loose etc but overall nothing serious. Just drive to the conditions and you should be fine. Hope this helps Steve

Top video and advice for new people wanting to get out and about! All excellent ideas i only add sat phone/PLB like someone earlier and also likely airbags for rear suspension as most vans are very heavy if off road and putting too much down force on tow ball
@trip42australia
@trip42australia 7 дней назад
Thanks Aaron we’re really happy you enjoyed the vid. We haven’t gone down the PLB track yet but it’s a get idea and certainly more than useful in emergency’s. I might not have mentioned it in the vid but the car is fitted with airbags and I think they definitely make a difference when we are towing. cheers Steve

Thanks mate, I actually asked in the people in kiosk there just to make sure we get it right because we’d heard people refer to it in a couple of different ways but obviously they gave me the bum steer. We are heading to Kakadu next year as most of it was closed during our visit this year and we couldn’t see the value if we couldn’t see it all, so you’ll have to stay tuned for that one.

@@trip42australia I need to actually apologise I was being a bit of a key board worrier Sorry. How ever you did make me yearn to go back and revisit Litchfield and Kakadu I have you at a bit of a disadvantage, I grew up in Alice springs and left 1975 and went to Darwin and finished my schooling after cyclone Tracey became a mechanic then a tour guide conducting Camping and accommodated tours through Kakadu Litchfield Katherine and occasionally Ayes rock. Also for a short period ran a tour from Darwin out to the Adelaide River to do the Jumping crocodile cruses. This all occurred in the 80s great time to be up there then. From what I saw of your channel there has been a few changes since I was last there left the top end 2015 now reside in the hills of Perth WA when work permits we are exploring this part of the world. Happy travels Cheers Jeff

Ya should have seen it back before they put the bitumen out there and the kiosk at Wangi falls. Spent a heap of time when I was a kid at Florence falls and we could swim at tolmer sitting in the front of the cavern and watching the ghost bats flying around 🍺🇦🇺

Very good information. A lot of engineering firms make winch cradles that fit behind the factory bumper, so you can save even more weight (and money) that way.
@trip42australia
@trip42australia 8 дней назад
Thank you I wasn’t aware of that, I was talking to Allison the other day about future plans and how I could reduce weight in a new car ( if we brought one). Even though we rarely use the winch we want that piece of mind just in case we ever get stuck.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience on the road and the reasoning behind your decisions. Great vid mate and what I loved is it is all relevant and upto date. We have just built the big girl ready for serious touring on and off road in remote locations and will now be looking for our van that will need to be able to support us off grid with power and 300lts of water + and added bladder of 150lt on car floor for some really remote trips we are planning - it all adds up and seems hand is always in the pocket adding bits and pieces. See you in the tracks hopefully

Hi I saw your video on water savings and you mentioned the washing machine. What machine do you have and how do you wash with reduced water. I have a Dometic front loader that uses 50 litres each load. Thanks for the channel I look forward to each new episode.
@trip42australia
@trip42australia 26 дней назад
Hi mate, thanks for watching. We have an NCE top loader in our van that uses about 50lts in normal/ full cycle washes but when we are off grid we wash our clothes with wool wash. Wool wash doesn’t require a rinse cycle so we wash and then skip to spin this reduces the water usage to about 15 - 20lts per load depending on what water level you require. Hope this helps
