Everyone should have access to a solid CAD education. Learn Computer Aided Design (CAD) for free on this RU-vid channel. My name is Florian, I have been teaching CAD at different levels, from primary school children to professionals and university classes with different CAD systems. I started teaching Siemens NX in 2014 and have since gained a lot of experience with many CAD systems, from open source tools like FreeCAD and OpenSCAD to professional systems like Siemens Solid Edge, PTC Onshape and more.
I am working in learning FreeCad and have watched lots of videos. Your block of instruction was the best so fare, informative and simple for old minds like me. Thank you for the encouragement and the lesson.
Hello, great tutorial. I have only one issue. The content is blurred. For instance, when you click on an application icon, it is difficult to determine precisely what you are selecting. I have high definition monitors and plenty of computer power. Is there a site that has a more pristine view?
Check your RU-vid display Quality (the gear icon at the bottom of the video window) to see if you can select a higher-res image. YT often defaults to a lower res, which can blur details. On a 43" 4k monitor at 1080p, the icons are clear enough for me.
If you are an hobbyst and use their free version to produce a few models to 3d print it is fine. For serious use the cloud concept is a big no go. If they go out of business you have lost everything you have produced over the years (and you too will go out of business!!). They can increase the price as high as they want since they hold hostage your data: do you still want to access your data? Then no other option than to pay whatever they ask. Even to still be able to reference your past work you have to pay the annual fee forever!! This business model is only good for them, not for you!!!
Thanks for your great tutorial. Can I also teach you something? When you pronounce 'tangent' it is actually pronounced more like 'Tanjent', similarly to 'general' or 'gentlemen' (jeneral and jentlemen). I look forward to working through your amazing tutorials. Thanks so much for posting them.
I manage to make it about 97% done without help. And as I did I couldn't find the degree of freedom tool() I'm on V.02.21). Besides that it seems it crucial in what order you do the constraints. On to the next one.
Thanks for these, I'm just starting out with CAD after doing traditional 3D modeling for ages. But as I try to follow along with you here and I do exactly what you do to Symmetrize at 4:32 I get this error message (Recompute failed!), what am I doing wrong. I should tell you I'm on a newer version of FreeCad as will V. 021.2. Solution, this comment below was crucial to be able to finish this. /.../ @GregorySchwartzkopf för 6 månader sedan (redigerad) For absolute noobs like me, who followed step by step and got a TON of errors and frustration, make sure the "Auto-remove-redundants" is selected under the constraints panel./.../ But it's not visibel in V 02.21without clicking the wrench next to the constraints panel.
Just seen this. Great video and much appreciated. Been using a low brow CAD package since the late 80s ( DesignCAD "Loved its simplicity") now retired I'm keen to find something I can spend the time to learn without the pressures of a Job. I may have found it 😃
when changing the z possition of the second sketch i found it grayed out and couldnt be changed , when looking it up i found that it could be possition linked to another sketch but i could find how !!
At 25.22 when padding out the sketch I get this message "Cannot use the selected object. Selected object must belong to the active body" My mouse clicks are exactly as yours. Where am I going wrong?
Please dont feel deflated. Your contributions are appreciated. I only just found your channel and really like your presentation style. I have tried FreeCad many time over the years only to get frustrated and not use if. This time I am determined to push through. Your videos have already helped me. On a side note, there are millions of RU-vid channels, all wanting people to subscribe. From a viewers perspective we only have a limited time on RU-vid each day. If I was to subscribe and comment on every video Ive watched, that would take forever. For you, I think its best to take comfort in knowing that people DO appreciate your work, but in this day and age we zoom about from one channel to the next. I fully understand though that you want some kind of feedback and way of measuring peoples appreciation. I get it !! EDIT: 61 thousand subscribers !!! Thats pretty impressive!! No no, stop for a moment and think about a sports stadium filled with people who have subscibed to your channel. Come on man, thats massive.
This took me about an hour sadly lol. Literally my first attempt with any cad. I got done and started messing with other tools on my completed part. I zoomed out to much and CANNOT find it anywhere on my screen now 😂
That was remarkably unhelpful outside of being an advertisement for FreeCAD. Was expecting a video that actually explains the functions of the program.
I love your stye and excellent english - BUT, version 21.2 behaves differently. When I tried to constrain the upper and lower arcs to the center - I got errors. No matter what i did it would not let me constrain. So I started again with the outside sketch first, then the circles and everytning worked ok.
Brilliant tutorial - I have been playing with BLENDER - TINKERCAD - and FREECAD, this tutorial has convinced me to "stick" with Freecad as I can see that it has a lot to offer - many thanks.
Flowwie, thank you sooo much. You are an excellent teacher. Loved every minute of it. I will be watching this and other (of your videos) many times. ☘🙏☘
Terrible video. We're just starting out and you click all over the place without saying what you're doing . I should be able to follow every move and make the design and it's not possible.
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I followed along very closely, but at 17:09 when I try to change the fillet radius I get the message: "The requested dimension modification cannot be made. Change the Design Intent settings or the command options and try again." Version I'm using is 2024_2310.
NB!!! my novice brained struggled for an hour not realising the tangent coincident had not been created along the polyline I was creating because I stopped mid way to correct a mistake and in restarting the polyline the tangent coincidence was not formed .Thank you for another great lesson💯💯💯
Wow. Just started watching your vids and straight away I realise that u r teaching things the hard way. Why wouldnt you draw 2 circles on the XY centre point, give them radius and simply pad for initial pipe
Dear viewer, please don't ask me about a 4 year old video why I did something in a specific way.. :) It's just super old and I have no clue why I did what I did back then.
It’s enough to have a standard office pc . The software can get a lot more demanding if you’re working with high complexity models - but to run FreeCAD you don’t need a strong pc.
What colour is your solid body when you pad your design and what is it called in preferences? I am using 0.21.2 and don't see it anywhere.. Excellent videos!
I am interested in design strategies on diy machines like laser cutters and 3D printers. I have designed both but I didn’t organize them well into assembly and subassembly.
@@FreeCADAcademy I had a project in my Uni where i Wanteded to use the Lasercutter but which needs dxf or svg from Drawings. But NX student only exportet in stl or in Jpg the drawing. So i had to redo the whole project in a new Software. But in the begining of the Project i did not know which file was needed for the laser. Because it was the first time working with one. and i was not planed for the manaufacturing on the project
Could you export the 3D file to Step? You can import Step Files to other CAD software like Onshape and FreeCAD and create then the SVG/DXF from the drawing. If you can only export 3D files to stl -> run and use a different Software.
I personnaly not liking video when the youtuber speak too much because i have to wait or search in the video what i need so i REALLY like when it's straight forward. There is so much things to learn (and i'm speaking in general, not only freecad)that i think video focused on functions rather than a whole design is better...A few minutes video of 2 or 3 functions (depend of the complexity of the functions)is the absolute best things to do.My opinion off course. And some time a design start to finish we can watch more like a documentary.Anyway good luck to you Stolz.
Freecad has a huge learning curve compared to other products, but once you are over it, it is a nice CAD environment to work in. .22 is starting to feel heaps better now. I have successfully moved all my important Onshape models over.
Welcome Back! I'm still using your color pallet from back in the day! For what you want to do for this channel, you need to do what YOU want and are interested in.
