It’s sad that they lied about how the Jamaicans were treated. Every WHITE MAN in bobsledding helped them all the way through. Proving once again, whites are just lovely people.
Excellent scene. It establishes Blitzer's credibility and Derice's leadership/responsibility, show's Irv's trust in Derice, explains why/how they decided who goes where, describes the sport to people who many not understand what each man does, and lays a foundation for a later callback to when Derice is studying turns and the others go out for a beer. Plus, a little humor. All in 90 seconds.
It also shows that Sanka does not trust "because I say so" even when sayer has credibility to say truth and clear authority to boss around. Only full story makes Sanka work best.
I love that the whole premise is sprinters as Bobsledders yet it's Sanka who brings out the best in them by not being a sprinter but reminding them to be Jamaican.
I am not Jamaican, yet. This was an incredible movie based sort of on true facts. It was inspirational for this country and I happen to be in Calgary but did not see the bobsledding
Irv's reactions to Sanka calling him "Sled God" hits different when you re-watch the film after finding out he cheated and embarrassed himself and his country. He probably thought Derice and Sanka were making fun of him.
It's funny that the look on Derice's face at 1:02, 1:07, and 1:21 was like he was saying "I think I made the wrong decision wanting to start a bobsled team" especially when Irv when explaining the responsibility of the driver, he was sounding very serious looking at Derice like he was saying "you wanted this bobsled team, you forced me to be the coach, so you are going to be the driver."
Miss John candy!he was so good in his movies like uncle buck and planes trains and automobiles.may he rip.a least he won't have to deal with covid the killing cold racism and all the other bad things going on in this world.writing this in February 2023.stay safe people.
Indeed. They interviewed the President/Prime Minister, whoever the head position is that keeps Jamaica operating and he said while Gold Medals ARE nice, they (Jamaica) only cared about just being there and participating
I think this is the only true part of the movie... nobody was interested. In fact it was the coach who had to go to the military to find ppl to participate.
