Hi Dr, I am writing a novel, and one character (diplomat's child) is a OBGYN. Part of her background is that she did medical student rotation or residency in Haida Gwai and Nunavut (giving her a bit of knowledge of both cultures) does this seem believable to you?
You’re such a passionate physician. I’ve watched numerous reaction videos by other doctors but your channel is one of the only I chose to subscribe to after watching… you really can tell that you care about your patients.
Would you believe I had dinner with Ewan yesterday and this video showed up in my feed this morning? 🤔 "Hi" from YK & thanks for your work in the north. I enjoyed this video!
Most Canadians have NO IDEA of how far and remote, stretched out and vast our country is because they are focused on the States or their tiny part of the city. TRAVEL INSIDE OUR COUNTRY. Thank you to all our dedicated health care professionals
taking care of and letting the new mother rest has been how it was supposed to be for hundreds of years in the west too, it changed somewhat only in more recent decades (as far as i know they are home but not as restful i think). still, in my country we actually have a law that forbidds employers to let new moms work for the first 8 weeks after the birth (as per wikipedia article). not sure how the other european states handle this.
Shit, the integrated EMR is something I wish we had here. I live in one of the largest cities in the US, and I can't see what you had done at a clinic down the street because your clinic doesn't use the same EMR system as mine does. An integrated EMR would be so wonderful.
Wow .. if a patient needs to travel to Alberta, is it covered (paid for?) .. and is there access to their medical records in Alberta? I live in northern Ontario, not far from Quebec, used to go there shopping often UNTIL I heard on the news that .. gasp .. we aren't covered if we need medical care "over there" unless we have out-of-province insurance. ugg ..
Worked 2 stints out of Moose Factory Ontario, Up in James Bay, and the related Nursing stations up to Hudsons Bay. Loved the patients and the work, disliked the long time medical politics and adminstrators who served themselves not their workers, thus not their community. The rotating Drs were amazing.
This is why I went back to school!! This is my dream to provide rural healthcare. I just graduated with my Nurse Practitioner and midwifery degrees. I love this!
My days of living in the N.W.T. has long past, but my dearest friendships remain. Those of us who grew up in Pine Point, often travelled to all the towns in the NORTH for hockey tournaments, and so many other indigenous games. Our Winter Games are extraordinarily special, as are the people of our Northern communities! You certainly captured a wonderful uniqueness that becomes ever more obvious, as we travel NORTH…People care for, and help out one another, regardless of ethnicity…as is our Canadian way. Our indigenous peoples have been here for millennia and taught us throughout history, how to trade and form so many necessary relationships, so we could continue to thrive! I dearly hope, their time to thrive excels exponentially via reconciliation, education, empathy, and understanding. What makes Canada the beautiful country it is, begins with our unique tapestry of various cultures and ethnicities! Thank you for this video, it’s been a few years since I have been to Fort Smith. You definitely captured the beauty of living in our NORTH! Cheers!🇨🇦
As a foreign medical graduate, I applied to so many residencies including family medicine, it sucked not to even get an interview. I would love to work as a family doctor. With all that burnout. I think at some point later in your life you can switch to shorter hours or special services or whatever. Everything is doable. I guess Medicare sets its own rules. Why hire more doctors and pay them more for less work, when one can do all that, then let increase the demands for a residency candidate so that they never even pass the initial requirements for an interview for residency. Then they will mostly take those American graduates or who comes right after them, and have shortage of doctors, and make sure one doctor does ten doctors’ jobs and gets paid one doctor’s salary.
I have a really difficult time hearing him referred to as Dr. G. The reason is totally personal. I trained some... really scary martial arts with a fellow named Dr. Gyi. He was also an expert and master educator, and he was on the bonkers scary side.
Grew up in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina, US. Got a sunburn that blistered horrifyingly when I was in 2nd grade. Let's just say... it turned out poorly. Had to go to our local doctor, who's nurse was this guy with a super long braided pony tail who was simply the most caring and competent medical professional I have met to this day. I'll never forget him.
Simple answer, no. When did RSV come about? My father was a GP and pharmacist and I never heard him talk about it. Is it something that has become prevalent since the use of flu and pneumonia jabs are common place? Bet vit C would do well - large dose of that always knocks any infection on the head for me - including Covid - never had more than the hint of a symptom. Oh, of course, you can't patent that and make money out of it - so don;t want to look at simple answers. As usual, they never look into long term effects - like how many are monitoring IgG4 antobodies after Covid ones. No one looks at the consequences of the adjuvents And another doctor minimising side effects.
UpToDate and Orthobullets is equivalent to half a medical degree :) I’ve always wanted to practice somewhere with snow and moose’s. Grew up watching Northern Exposure in the 90’s.
My GP is amazing. She's always upbeat, and as a person with depression, I know how much energy that costs her on a constant basis. I wish I could gift her with a Jonathan! (though her office staff is lovely)
Damn I'm a vegetarian so this sounds like a difficult place to be for my, but other than that, remote sounds fantastic to me, particularly with internet access and when there's awareness to make up for past crimes! That said: Thank you for caring for people. It's a rough job and it would be great if you had a bit more staff, but it's heart-warming to see how you care.
Funny this video should come up. This isn't quite the same thing, but I was just looking up information earlier in the day about becoming a medical coder. But when I looked up jobs, everybody wanted experience. It's frustrating because how am I supposed to get experience with the job? I guess I should move to a rural community. They seem more willing to train you since they need the help so badly.
