Probably intentional, frustrated w/ his career. Once a 1st rnd draft pick, he only pitched two games with this team and was released like a week later after this incident. Retired from pro baseball and became a relator a few months later. Meanwhile, his brother Kutter Crawford is currently a starting pitcher for the Boston Red Sox of the big leagues. I feel for this guy.
It is a first baseman bad play execution. When you are in a round running play the runner must be pursued towards the less value base. So, the runner has to be pursued to the first base not to the second base. You have to learn the baseball fundamentals.
What does that batter do normally? Is raising it like that part of his customary cycle? Or is it way off from what’s normal for him? The slowness of the replay makes it look intentional, but in the actual quickness of the game, maybe not. 🤷
Wouldn't matter if he normally does something or not. The section of the rules is called Batter Illegal Action. Any movement they make that interferes, intentional or not, can get the batter called out if the interference causes the catcher to not be able to get the runner out. Pretty sure if the catcher still gets the runner out then the batter is fine.
@@Hogscraper Any chance he lifted his bat like that in an effort to avoid the ball? Maybe he thought the throw would come in front of his body and that’s why he lifted the bat.
If you think you can do better, please do. There is a worldwide shortage of officials. Please come out to the fields and show us all how much better you are.
Batter has the right to the box but I don’t know if there is any rule stating you cannot move while in box. Catcher threw it at the bat it’s the catchers fault imo
once the batter lifted his bat and blocked the throw, is the interference. doesn't matter if you're in t he box or not. If he just stood there he'd be fine
I believe he should’ve tossed it down the first base line as he ran with it... but I understand this sort of thing can be a habit and just routine for every other at-bat he has. I do agree with the commentator tho about calling for inference. The catchers focus was disrupted by having to either expect the ball to move if hit by the bat or where he places his foot on his pick up and throw, which you can see he pulled the throw left.
