If my bow is bent and now tight on a different tooth, will it move that tooth?
@jeffers63
@jeffers63 2 года назад
If the acrylic is contacting the tooth on the palatal aspect then the tooth shouldn’t move as it has no space to move into. Always try to keep wirework passive for when it leaves the lab.

Hi, I have a Post and Core on a molar. Dr. Sent the resin pattern with the posts being removable (3) one per root. He will place the core first and then the 3 posts due to the insertion angle they have. Post and Core can not be cast as one piece. My concern is: I am worried the investment would not hold in these small "Post Channels" (very thin). Is there anything I can place inside these post channels while investing to preserve them? I am Casting it with Chrome Cobalt. The wax/resin pattern burnout temperature is 860 C. I will appreciate any thoughts. Thank you.
@dentaltechnology-cardiffme4022
@dentaltechnology-cardiffme4022 3 года назад
One option is to adjust yourself: widen the channel and corresponding post by trimming the channel and adding wax to the post. If this is not a viable option (space might be an issue?), then you can use refractory rods - these come with some precision attachments (slides), to protect the internal aspects of the matrix when investing. Please let us know what you did and if it was successful.

Why this appliance is given,
@dentaltechnology-cardiffme4022
@dentaltechnology-cardiffme4022 3 года назад
Thanks for commenting. The Southend clasp is used to keep the anterior part of yhe appliance in place. It is a fixative, or retentive component and is better suited for use on anterior teeth. Adams clasps can damage the lips and don't engage undercuts adequately.

@jeffers63
@jeffers63 Год назад
@@pingmichael878 you can use this for the teeth it contacts, but it is a fixative component rather than a retainer, which the labial bow is.

WTF are you doing? That's abysmal bending.

Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. Would you like to expand on which element (or elements) of the technique you are referring to as "abysmal"? Interested to find out what it is you find so odd. Thanks.

@@dentaltechnology-cardiffme4022 First off, my apologies for being so blunt. I didn't mean it that way. I just noticed your 'bending' finger is always a few mills from the jaws of the pliers. This will introduce a bend where one is not needed. I used to get my arse kicked for that. Anyway, I have ordered some Adams (65's) and a reel of 0.7mm SS and will try to video how I used to do this. I have no casts, so will have to go freestyle. Watch this space...

@dentaltechnology-cardiffme4022
Try and visualise the wire when you bend it, as if the wire work is still on the model. Otherwise just keep checking back to the model. You may find you spend more time checking than bending to start with, but that will soon change!

Yes it is, but its a variation whereby the guard wire and tagging are all constructed from one piece of wire.

The wire size is 0.5mm in this case. 0.6mm can be used if the spring gets bigger/longer, where it can be used to move two teeth simultaneously. As long as the arm contacting the tooth being moved is not wider than it, then the 'second' coil and arm can be wider as they don't actually move forward, only rotate. Hope that helps everyone and thanks for all your comments.
@pelibobbob9850

Thanks for your answer, and I don't wish to be too critical as I appreciate what you're trying to do, but I think it only fair to give those watching this a proper understanding. Looking at your spring, the mesial coil lines up with the mesial of the lateral, but the distal coil extends past the distal line of the lateral. You are partly right in what you state, the distal coil does not move, only rotate.However, by the very nature of the rotational movement of the distal coil the second (mesial) coil must move forward (labially) and if it was to extend past the point of the mesial edge it could contact the abutment tooth. As this is an educational video from a respected seat of learning I feel that basic foundations should be put across, otherwise someone watching this may believe there's no limit to the width. Sorry for the long reply.

I thought a 'Z' spring was supposed to fit within the width of the tooth it was moving, otherwise it interferes with the abutment teeth. It would be helpful if you'd stated what size wire you were using. 0.5mm or 0.4mm?
@dentaltechnology-cardiffme4022

Thanks Olufemi - and you are quite right. We use this technique to introduce investing and packing for our first year students. It also makes them aware of "indirect" techniques where there is no model.

Investing wax work this way may subject it to distortion. It is better wax work is retained on the model and invested together. However, and experienced technician will not have much problem getting result.

I do my helix's closer together... Is there any advantages having the further apart, thanks for uploading
@dentaltechnology-cardiffme4022
+Chris Dodd There is an increase in flexibility with having the helices further apart; allows for a greater range of motion as well. The activation can be easier with more space around them as well (acrylic spacing comes into play here too)
