This looks super easy! That strung material you used, I usually refer to as "eyelash yarn", and it comes in loads of colors and finishes. I've never targeted pickerel on the fly, but I'm going camping next month at a local State Park. The only thing I've EVER caught in that dark brown, cedar water lake is chain pickerel. (Not even sunnies or yellow perch!) I've never seen any big pickerel come out of there, so I think I'm going to use my 5/6wt rod with some really bright, obnoxious streamers and stuff like that. I may even get a bass out of there with these kind of flies.
This trick works well but after you melt it together if you immediately place it in water (room temp or cool, not cold or hot) it cools it more equally and binds the inside of the bait together better. I usually do a bunch at a time and then just let them sit in the water for a minute or 2 after i'm done will all of them.
I just saw this today as I was looking for a 'loop' hair rig. I'll be using 17 lb. mono and sliding corn over the loop and using a 1/4" piece of toothpick ( or even a thin piece of brush wood on site . Braid line would work great as well ! Threading corn over the loop with a needle is quick & easy . Thanks for showing an easy way to make the loop !
You don't precut your bucktail ends to make a clean head. You don't tie on top and roll it in to position. Don't spin your bobbin to straighten your thread out to keep bucktail from rolling. Don't completely wrap your head (bucktail showing). And do,n't glue use an adhesive on a bucktail fly. These are all reasons you only get 3 fish per fly.
Nice. How about tying in a long rabbit zonker behind the eye, figure out where the hook needs to pierce the skin, so it lays flat (like a soft plastic), and you will really be on to something. Or 2mm foam? I've been tying on EWG hooks for a decade. Tight lines.
I fish for Largemouth in North Alabama, with lots of trees, weeds, and Hydrilla grass. This looks easy than using the nylon line weed guard. Thanks a heap.
Hey buddy I don’t know about any unspoken rules to fly tying. I’ve got a little secret man. I also carry this in survival kits in my car I carry a little set up everywhere I go! What I do to my flys (the ones the come unraveled) especially with bass. You know how people put a dab of super glue right on the head before you do your last wrap on the head. You can do this in any spot to help keep it secure and it will not move! The entire fly will come off the hook or rip before the part that you spot glue ever comes apart. Put a dab of super glue and sprinkle baking soda on the spot with the glue. That superglue will harden immediately and get as hard as steel...! It works so good if your belt on your car breaks on the side of the road you can use this trick and it will honestly hold enough to get you home! I hate my bass flys getting torn up like that. Weed less hooks are a pain to tie takes way more work and time and sometimes I make a fly that I’m creating and I know I’ll never make one exactly the same so I do what I can to make them last! It doesn’t really work though to use it as some do with the clear nail polish it will be kinda white. Gets solid though the second that chemical reaction takes place. Give it a shot it can’t hurt. Hey I’ve been making some flys for drop shots and the whole Carolina rig as well as Texas. I’m creating my own and right now I’m trying to make a small brown trout. So far so go. What I’d really like to fighter out on these fly baits is how to add a swimming tail. Maybe with a little hinge type thing at the back. I have been just leaving a longer tail and shaping it from leather kinda like a leach with a extra little flap at the end but that doesn’t last to long and just doesn’t look like what I’m going for. Any ideas? If I get any maybe we can swap ideas I live in New Mexico we’ve got some awesome fly fishing going one down here. I’ve trout fished my whole life and never got into bass fishing much but I’ve done it so this is a whole new adventure for me! 7 years stuck in bed and I made out and it’s time to start something new! I think bass eats better than trout too.. anyways if that sounds like something you’d like to give a shot I believe you can send me something three RU-vid. I’ll be looking out for you! I can give some of your flys a shot down here and let you know how they do maybe you can help me out with the whole tail dilemma I’m having!🇺🇸🧐
I ve started few days ago to do myself the flies for bass fishing and I had more satifactions with flies! ...not so good with hard baits .... all tips and tricks are very welcome and i will try soon your fly. Thank you very much for sharing
Hey buddy great run!! Some good fish. What fly was that you were using ? One those you tied in your collection ??? It Looked to be a double fly setup early in the video . Gonna tie up a fee that you shown in your. Video.collection. fish on thanks buddy
@@413Outdoors nice man!!! Basically using the tungsten as weight to get the Nurple down there ?? Certain distance you tie them away from each other. Wonder of could substitute a split shot?
I like the tungsten to keep it down as a weight but it also works well to draw them in from a distance, if they end up getting spooked by the jig then the fly is there as a subtler bait for them to take, could try using a split shot and use a drop shot kind of presentation, let me know how it works!
@@413Outdoors okay bud may go to the tungsten an try that too. You using a swivel off the main line to tie the fly or just a small piece of line ?? Thanks buddy
Tie the fly on like you normally would, i use an improved clinch knot, then leave the tag end about 12“ long and tie the jig on there, i‘ve got a video that goes more in depth of what i‘m talking about How To Fish Ice Flies ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZJMET_3jwWg.html
What weight rods were you using for the topwater and the weedless slider? I've only done trout and (very few) stripers on the fly but I'd like to get a set up for largemouth.
