You forgot to mention the amount of humidity this puts into your house/apartment. I had to do this in my house and it's so humid in here I feel like I am in the deep south. Side note: my house is about 750 sq ft and I live in the desert of Washington State
Tom, I own a Polar ice making machine and thought I was keeping it clean with white vinegar etc. Unfortunately the inevitable happened and both error lights lit up. Ice tray jammed! Removed all ice and refilled, no different. Next step was to take it to the local home utility repair shop (panic, Xmas and party time coming up). He doesn't repair them waste of money suggested I buy another. Which I did but a cheaper and not so go good ice machine. I contacted the importer in Bristol and was put through to their engineering dept. They suggested changing the ice tray motor or the micro switches. Later when I had some down time I decided to have a go myself. Wow! After a bit of hit and miss found out it is only 4 (yes four screws and a bit of slide on the top and hey presto it's down to it's underwear. Cleaned it (it was really dirty in places you couldn't see) reassembled, tried it. And yes it works a treat. Video not necessary but can provide photo's if required.

Hey Sara, this usually means the water tank needs to be refilled. If there isn't enough water in the tank, the pump won't be able to pull any water through the cooling pad, and the evaporative cooling mode (the blue light you mentioned) will turn off automatically. But if the water tank is full and the blue light still is turning off, there may be some other issue. If so, you can email support@newair.com for more assistance!
thanks, 2016 seems to have been the one year thermoelectric fridges were considered commercially viable, because it's 2019 and I see no new developments unfortunately. I need a quiet fridge. Gah!
You can still buy some thermoelectric fridges in most places, but you're totally right, it seems like they may be on their way out. At the very least, California no longer allows them to be sold.
Hey Geri, since these parts may vary between manufacturers, we recommend contacting the company directly to find out. Sometimes they'll have the parts listed on there site, but sometimes you may just have to start with a message to their customer service team.
Hey Christian, great question! I'll share an explanation we gave to a similar question asked about this product: "the unit has the capability of circulating the air for a room up to 100 square feet, but several different factors determine temperature changes. For one, evap coolers will only work effectively in dry weather--the dryer it is, the more you'll notice a difference. Also, despite it being powerful enough to circulate 100 square feet, you'll see more change in smaller rooms. The unit also needs some time to cool the air, and this process will slow down if hot air is let into the room too frequently through windows and doors. But if you're cautious of these things, you should notice a difference in the temperature!" Hope this helps!
We can't say for sure without knowing the conditions, but if the ideal conditions are met (explained in the previous comment) and the idle temperature isn't too high above 60, then it's possible. If you're looking to make a big difference in the idle temperature, though, then you might be better suited to a portable air conditioner.
We can help with that! There should be a screw behind the fan blades holding them onto the motor--if you unscrew it, you should be able to slide the blades right off. Here's a picture of it, for your reference. Hope this helps! imgur.com/a/5W8oZWg
I thought I was alone in this, I guess we have to disarm the whole thing and then maybe take out the damn blade lol honestly this is crazy I need to wash them but I don’t want to compromise the motor ...
Great question, we actually recommend adding ice packs to the water in the tank--in fact, this unit should come with an included ice pack. However, any ice pack will work!
This is a terrible idea. Face it: you're not going to keep refilling the water container. Nobody does. You'll end up with a damp basement and mold. And you'll be mad at yourself for doing this.

$20 says she only uses bottled water and here is why.... First 6 months I owned mine I was picky about bottled water...eventually I decided to switch to tap water and within 2 weeks the ice maker started development of red tints and white mold...
*somehow* essential oil has dripped into the unit I have. There was oil covering the bottom of the AC unit, and I cleaned all that off, washed the vent screens, vacuumed the dust out of the coils... when I turn the unit on, the strong fragrance of essential oil blows out. Do I need to chuck it as a loss, or is there a way I can clean out wherever the oil is coming from?

I used a soft bristle brush to brush off the dust then vacuum the filter. Also, i regularly drained the water on my portable ac. When stored during colder temperatures, i used a plastic bag to cover the ac unit and stored in my closet. Yet, my portable ac smells terrible! I suspect mold build up. Idk how if i maintained it regularly and it is only 1 year old when i bought it new!
@@newairusa thank you for your reply. I forgot the name brand conditioner but it is a 14,000 btu single hose. I had a 10,000 btu unit before and never did give any odors. Maybe the unit being stronger gives out more condensation? I have left the fan mode running to possibly dry out the unit but it still smells. I did open the plastic compartment that cover the coil housing but no dust is present. Rarely used unit and only 1 year old. My room is clean, and no foul odors omit from the room.
@@newairusa could it be safe to use a disinfectant spray such as lysol to spray thru the air intake of the ac unit? I was thinking it would maybe eliminate bacteria or mold build up if present.
We would recommend contacting the manufacturer of that specific unit so you can get better help with how to clean it. Since every portable AC is different, they all need to be taken apart and cleaned in different ways. Also, we don't recommend spraying anything into the unit, as it may damage electrical components, and the chemicals in the cleaners could cause a health or fire hazard. We apologize for not being able to help more directly, but you can probably get some good answers from whoever made that unit! Best of luck working on it!
Hey Christina! To access the filter and cooling pad, you can remove the screw from the panel on the back and press in the two clips to lower the dust filter out. You can use a vacuum or compressed air can to clean out the dust filters and cooling pads. I just purchased your product and it seems to continue leaking? The first time i have used it. I pushed down on the tank plug but still leaking? Any suggestions? I live in the middle of nowhere so I doubt I can get service on it.

Hey there, sorry to hear your unit isn't working well! If it's a NewAir unit, feel free to contact support@newair.com for better assistance. If not, we still recommend contacting the manufacturer of your AC, since they will be most likely to provide the right help. There are many reasons your AC may not be cooling effectively (dust buildup, poor ventilation, too much external heat, etc) but it may be a malfunction in the unit as well.
That's a great idea! Although it's actually quite simple with this unit--you can just drop any ice packs directly into the water tank, as long as they can fit easily!
You don't show the most important thing. How to clean the condenser! How to remove the outside covering to access the condenser. Thank God I found another video, with another model that showed the nasty build up of dust on the condenser. YIKES! Sorry, but your video is shamefully useless.
The very reason I looked up this video was to clean the area where ice is formed and it’s not covered in the video. Notice how they don’t clean a dirty used machine because it’s very difficult. Basically try hard using a brush because you cannot get your hand In there. A very bad design on all these ice makers.

Best to vent those ***cancer causing chemicals*** and other toxins to the outdoors. Toxic and carcinogenic ingredients are NOT required to appear on ingredient labels. The US gov knows they are in laundry detergent, dryer sheets, etc., but won't regulate them. Read article: "INDOOR AIR QUALITY: Scented Products Emit a Bouquet of VOCs" by nih (.) gov Two Excerpts: On formaldehyde: "A single fragrance in a product can contain a mixture of hundreds of chemicals, some of which (e.g., limonene, a citrus scent) react with ozone in ambient air to form dangerous secondary pollutants, including formaldehyde." Product testing found: "...and close to half (44%) generated at least 1 of 24 carcinogenic hazardous air pollutants...These hazardous air pollutants have ***no safe exposure level,*** according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency." (emphasis mine)
Hi Carla! If your ice maker always turns off an hour after turning it on, I would think you've accidentally enabled the timer feature, and it's currently set to one hour. You can press the timer button until the timer is turned off, to see if that fixes it! Otherwise, the ice tray being full and the water tank being empty are also common reasons why your unit might stop running unexpectedly. If you rule all of these possibilities out, then there may be an issue with your unit. You can email support@newair.com and they can give you more direct help if you think it's a bigger problem!
@@newairusa Unfortunately I found out that I live on the east coast which this does not benefit me. Do you know of any other fans out there that work like an air conditioner that would help me? We have been without AC for a few months now and I can't use a window ac unit since I have a brother that lives on other side of house with the windows open so therfore that wont be efficient to run. I also tried a circular fan and that does noting but blow hot air around the room. I about ran out of options
These are the exact reasons that I got rid of my bullet ice maker and got a clear ice maker. When I got it the taste of the bullet ice bothered me. Then how fast it melted in my drinks, plus how overly fizzy my carbonated drinks would get bothered me a lot. I'm just seeing this video but I'm glad all of my issues were confirmed and I wasn't just being picky.
My air unit when draining it has like a slummy film coming out of it. How can I clean out the water tank so its not slummy no more. And how much water is in it when it says water is full.

It's the area where the ice is made that you need to be able to clean better, behind the metal cylinders that actually freeze the water. Impossible to get in there, yet mold develops quickly.
Hello, sorry to ask but I can't find info on this anywhere - My portable AC unit causes a stink like old dirty socks when I turn it on. The water only drains through a small hose, I've tried draining it fully and the smell didn't go away, and all the websites say to take it apart and clean it but as far as I can tell this air con unit doesn't come apart, and neither does it give me access to the evaporator coils to clean it. All I can think is if I maybe remove the drain pipe from the back of it and spray a load of mold & mildew remover through the grill in the hope that it gets it all... Do you have any suggestions?
