I liked your reference to "in the garden". In your discussion of "the garden of Eden", the consequence is deadly - rotting DEATH. When Adam sins, the LORD's question, "where are you?" is the question of a parent who needs to present the LAW to the child who thinks he/she is hiding. You cannot escape the consequence. But when the LORD "passes over former sins", He delays the consequence. So "on that day", Adam is dead, but the LORD is not finished. You're already DEAD but He creates a LIFE after DEATH.

When higher critical scholars talk about "deconstructing" the text they use their own reason to throw out things they do not want to believe. As you said the problem with that is that they are playing god. Faithful Lutherans want to understand what God says in the text and then believe.
@@craftofpreaching7281 Sorry, I promise I was not drunk when I wrote this I was in hurry. I was just thinking about what this bit of scripture means for me in my walk with Jesus. The hardest thing for me was that my son ended up broken. As hard as it was on me and possibly my ex-wife, he is the one whom my heart aches for. He was the one caught in the middle. It was my son however who asked me the question that sense mom was the one who wanted the divorce and neither one of us did, What did the Bible have to say about that? Even though I'm working on becoming a fully licensed pastor I have no answer for him. I was just searching that's all.

Great conversation. I loved your mention of David dancing (wearing an ephod of linen in front of the ark). Michal points out, "the king of Israel uncovers himself today". The priests were commanded to not show their nakedness but we know the seed of David includes the Messiah Jesus Christ. I sometimes wonder if the reason King David is so "enthusiastic" is because he understands that the seed he is carrying means Salvation for Israel and mankind.
I am hoping to look at the phrase "cling to" (be glued, cleave, hold fast). How does Christ "cling to" His bride? Is there a connection to "holding fast" to doctrine, gospel, faith ... ?
An interesting conversation! But disappointing that nothing was said about the place of women in this. Because within Judaism, and still in parts of Judaism to this day, Jewish women can’t initiate a divorce. So in Jesus’ reply he is affirming that men and women should be treated the same; what is true for men is also true for women. This was an extraordinary statement from a Jewish teacher; and in the light of the verses about children that follows suggests that in these verses Jesus’ overriding concern was for the vulnerable. Which we all know, at the time, was women and children. Thus the passage becomes less legalistic and more about Grace as Jesus himself navigates the complexity of it when acknowledging what Moses did, which almost certainly disadvantaged women much more than men

This is a great podcast. One thing though. There is too much talking over each other, not allowing each person to finish his thought. Not when you are adding to what the other is saying, which is great. Many times the way you cut the person off is obvious because you feel you can say what the person is saying better. I feel that when you do that, the person then is very reserved about speaking up again. Just my two cents. Keep up the good work!
I had thought of the “salted with fire” as purified by the presence of God. Fire has often represented the presence of God, and salt was used to preserve and purify.
Have you guys considered taking what you’ve studied and talking about different sermonic structures you could use and how to apply it? A bit more emphasis on the “craft” part. Always good info and good work. Thanks gents!

I'm a scientific Theist, and the problem for me with Jesus' actions is they clearly show his "God the Father" is more concerned with bricks and mortar rather than people, and "Love your enemy" is nowhere to be seen. Of course what the Pharisees allowed was not ideal, but what church is perfect? The church was made for man, not man for the church. Cheers, P.R.
I want to encourage you but you indicate that Solomon's "all is vanity" occurred 10,000 years ago while King Solomon reigned from about 970 to 931 BC. That's less than 3000 years ago. Please continue but it's something to think about when you make suggestions about levels of training.
I'm curious as to why you would preach from a book that endorses slayvery? (Exd 21). I believe slayvery is immoral yet your bible allows for it. How do you excuse this terrible behavior? thank you.

The father taking the evidence of the disciples' failure to heal his son as a reason to question Jesus, is in direct relation to the Epistle (and the OT) text, in warning us that the power of God in Christ is not to be evidenced by man's accomplishments. Every man, no matter His position or success or (cap)ability, always accomplishes only on account of God's work. This is further echoed in the Transfiguration itself, that it is not the mountain itself (or man being high on a mountain) that is the "bridge" between heaven and earth... but that it is Jesus himself that is the bridge between heaven and earth.

I think Martin Luther would like to remind us that when James speaks about Faith, he reminds us about the Works of Abraham as proof text but he does not discuss the Works of the LORD. After "Abraham believed in the LORD, and was credited with righteousness" (James 2:23) the LORD performs the "Covenant between the Pieces". After "Abraham is willing to sacrifice his son" (James 2:21) the LORD refuses the sacrifice and provides his own better offering. In both cases, it is the LORD that performs the Work. I suspect Martin Luther would agree that: works is something that the LORD performs though us, as we work in conformity to his Word. - to be clear, I believe this is an example of metalepsis: we are supposed to remember the Works of the Lord as James describes the Works of Abraham. But as James points out, he's observing problems with the tongue, favoritism, pride, sensuality these behaviors are not the Works of the Lord.

I coonsider myself a reformed baptist and I don't believe you can lose salvation, tongues, your body is a temple god says so I try to keep myself in the word 2x daily more sometimes and god will always bless you when uou your doing the things he says are right.❤

"create in me a clean heart" is the introit of the day. God is the only one who can make holy. He makes holy (by definition) through His Word. We need His word to get in us, dwell among us ...
If the law is that we try to void the word of God the Gospel is that God's word is not empty but accomplishes His purpose to rescue us from sin and death and honor us with true life.

By definition, a Gentile is someone that is not included in Israel. The passage you are referring to says that when a Gentile comes to believe in Messiah, they are included in Israel. That would mean they are not longer a Gentile. They are an Israelite.
It did get me wondering a bit, as we compare and contrast. As a LLL (Life long Lutheran) it’s harder to say “I know what walking in darkness was like before” as opposed to those to whom Paul is writing. Certainly we can say: “You were born a sinner” but memory prevents us from knowing what that really looked like.
This is a direct refutation of decision theology. It's God Who does the deciding. The saving Word comes to us and drags us to Jesus. Here, we see the Father engaged in the same work of drawing us to Christ as Jesus attributed to the Holy Spirit in John 3. Of course, that's not an issue because, in both cases, we see the Trinity at work. Along with Jesus, Who says that when He is lifted up, He will draw us, we see the Trinity working as one for the salvation of the world. God stuff in this video, guys. God bless you.
As your good friend Chad Bird points out, Mark uses language which parallels "God passing by and before Israel". Understanding Mark 6: 45-56 depends on KNOWING WHERE EVENTS TAKE PLACE. Bethsaida is NOT geographically on "the other side" of the feeding of the 5000 and PLEASE... Gennesaret is NOT on the Decapolis side of the Sea of Galilee. Bethsaida is ethnically "on the other side", and that is the point Mark is making. Bethsaida used to be where the Jordan river enters the Sea of Galilee on the north. The apostle John tells us this is where Peter, Andrew, and Phillip are from. Like Nazareth, where Jesus is from, Matthew tell us the village is scolded for their lack of faith - apparently familiarity leads to contempt. Gennesaret is west and south of Tabgah and Capernaum. Jesus tells Peter and crew to row "home" (Bethsaida). In short, every time God makes a covenant, he presents himself as the MULTIPLIER: "be fruitful and multiply". Jesus "passes by" (as God) but, like the Pharoah "their hearts were hardened".
It's remarkable how God directs events so His will is accomplished. Consider Joseph the adopted father of Jesus, returning from Egypt after fleeing because of Herod the Great - the ruler who expanded the great temple of Jerusalem. Joseph could have stayed in Bethlehem but Herod Archelaus becomes ethnarch of Judah, Samaria, and Idumea (a ruler of such incompetence and cruelty that Rome replaces him). Instead Joseph goes to Galilee governed by the tetrarch Herod Antipas (a ruler who will send Jesus back to Pilate for his trial). And in this reading we see Jesus in a boat crossing the Sea of Galilee with fishermen. So while these rulers might imagine they are causing the future - it is God who determines the outcome.
