That’s the dust hose attachment that comes with the Kreg kit. Unfortunately it doesn’t fit our dust extractor. That why we printed the replacement that would fit our hose.
Not here. Sometimes climb cuts can be appropriate, however I'll try to avoid them as they'll usually rip the tool or piece from your hand and damage the work or worse yet risk injury!
If I've had a few and am throwing out such ideas cuz we did such better in mid grade and this new tech ain't even touching our standards, would it not be farfetched to say they can't build pyramids without the knowhow ????

It came out really good. We tried with a brush first but finished with a roller. The roller was quicker than the brush and the finish was about the same.
There’s still more to do. But this was a long time coming. Even before we got the second saw last year we had problems with the outfeed table being out of plane with the saw top. Hopefully this shop addition will fix all that!
@danieldunlap.woodworks zci digital files for the sawstop came in clutch. We bought our sawstop used and it didn’t come with the universal insert so all we had was two of the $50 sawstop zci that were already cut to 90 and 45. Since we listen to @anotherwoodshoppodcast we knew he had some digital files up for sale on Etsy. So Brian grabbed those and loaded up the @onefinitycnc and threw @spetool_cnc 1/8” bit in the @pwncnc router and voila’ a new clean zci and we were back to work! Plant Stand: Mortising the Legs and Glue Up We cut the half laps in the stretchers between the legs. Then with the domino, we cut loose mortise and tenon joinery to connect the stretchers to the legs. At the belt sander we sand a castle profile on the top and and chamfer the bottom of the legs, After a dry fit, we glue up and clamp. Our Split Top Roubo is Done! This is the Heartwood Woodshop’s version of The Woodwhisperer’s version of Benchrafted’s version of André Roubo’s version of a workbench!!! We were able to keep our costs down by using wood we already had on hand and were able to get a good deal on at the time. This our budget build for the workbench. All the cherry was sourced from a manufacturer that was making a product and offering it in a variety of woods. Unfortunately for them (fortunate for us) the cherry version of the products they made didn’t sell well so they sold the rough lumber at a discount to clear it out of their way. It was pretty sappy #1 & #2 common grade 4/4 lumber. So we had to do a lot of milling to get clear runs, especially for the slab tops. We basically planed it to a consistent thickness then glued it up into big panels. We ripped the panels down and planed them flat and then glued them up into slab, or legs, or cross rails etc. Anything that didn’t “make the cut” for the slab got set aside for the legs. If it was culled from the legs, then it got used in the cross rails. So, there was very little waste even though it wasn’t a high grade of lumber. The walnut for the leg vise chop and the sliding dead man came from some logs we picked up at an auction for the estate of a woodworker along with a truckload of other wood. We’re always on the lookout for deals on lumber. We currently have around 5,000 bd/ft on hand from just hunting for bargains! We did buy two walnut boards for this build though. One we used for the tail vise strip and the other for the gap stop. We had some wood that we could have used but they were long boards and we didn’t want to cut them down for this project. Classic case of “the board is to valuable to use” wood hoarding syndrome all woodworkers have. We wanted to stick with the high quality Benchcrafted hardware so that was our splurge for the build. We did buy the plans from The Woodwhisperer Guild and it came with a discount code so that helped some. We preferred to line the face of the vises with suede rather than the crubber that came in the Benchcrafted hardware kit. This was also something we had left over from making a tool roll for some turning gouges to travel with for a class. Adding Suede to the Roubo Vise Faces. We decided to use some suede we had leftover from when Maria made a tool roll for her turning tools instead of the "crubber" that Benchcrafted sends with the bench kits. We were a bit nervous about spraying the 3M spray adhesive and getting over spray onto the bits of the bench where it didn't belong so we masked off like crazy. Working time is short with the spray so we worked as quickly as we good to get a good bond. Once the patches were on then we just trimmed up the unadhered edges as needed. Crafting the Gap Stop for the Roubo. Most of the lumber for this build we had on hand but we had to run out and grab a board from our local hardwood dealer. We love going to lumber yards, we’re like kids in a candy store. Started by getting the walnut board flat, square and cut to length. Then we resawed the board in half. There was a lot of tension in the board so it bowed pretty hard. We just decided to live with it and see how it came out after assembly. We planed down to 1/2” thickness and then assembled using glue and pin nails. We kept the bow concavities facing each other in hopes they would cancel each other out and it worked out. Making the shelf for the Roubo workbench. We were contemplating making the shelf out of walnut but decided to stick with the cherry. We think it worked out better since there are already quite a few walnut accents. A walnut shelf would have been to much of a good thing. After a bunch of math to get the spacing right we ended up needing 7 planks. So we selected a few boards and cut them down to rough length, jointed 2 sides, and planed to 3/4”. Then we cut the rabbets for the shiplap and cut to final length. It probably would have been better to cut to length then ship lap but no harm no foul. We used the bandsaw to cut the notches for the legs and did a test fit. With everything fitting well we wiped more @rubiomonocoatusa on and put them in place. Finishing touches on the Roubo leg vise chop. Finished the chop with more @rubiomonocoatusa We had to reinstall it at that point to mark the top so we could cut it down flush with the bench top. Then uninstall, again, and take it over to the table saw. We used the table saw to cut a bevel for relief when we're hand sawing. We knew a trapped off cut like this isn't ideal, so we made sure not to stand in the path in case it kicked back. Then reinstall, again, (said in my best Forrest Gump) and plane down flush with the bench top before adding more finish. Applied some Rubio finish to the Roubo workbench base and then reinstalled the hardware. Removed all the hardware and accessories from the base of the workbench so we could put some Rubio finish on it. We love the ease and look of the Rubio pure finish. Stuff is so easy to apply and it smells good too. Once the finish was on we reinstalled the hardware on the base. Once we get the leg vise chop cut to height we'll install it. Then the only things left are the shelf, the plane stop and adding suede for the vices! We’re a very young channel and this was our very first “Why did you do it wrong, you should have done it right” comment. We were super excited to pop our YT comment cherry!
We went to the woodpile and dug out another piece of walnut. We got the walnut chunks as part of an auction lot of wood that we had bid on and won a few months ago. It was in rough shape and looked like it had been cut with a chainsaw. We put it on the jointer and planed one side flat before cutting it to rough thickness on the bandsaw. Then we ran it through the planer to get to the final thickness. We cleaned the bark off the live edges with a few draw knives. We had bought several used draw knives, and this was our chance to try them out. They worked well cutting with the grain. All in all, we're happy with them and they were a good buy. There were a few cracks and splits that had to be filled in. @starbond CA to the rescue! Squeeze a little in, hit it with accelerator, and then sand. Rinse wash and repeat until all the voids are filled and sanded. More drilling for dog holes! We used the same guide bushing from @leevalley that we used to drill the dog holes in the top. We had to do a weird thing with the board to cut the rabbet in the top. We clamped it to a piece of plywood with the centerline of the board parallel to the edge of the plywood so we could make a perpendicular cut. Pretty sure there was a better way to do this but this is what came to mind at the time. The plus side is that it worked! Then we removed the clamps, cut the ends off, and cut the rest of the rabbet notch. We had to use the handsaw to cut the rest of the way through. Then we did a little round over on the dog holes with the palm router. We had another sketchy cut, but this time with the table saw. To make the notch on the bottom we tilted the table saw blade to 45° and ran the dead man vertically across the blade, then flipped and repeated. We had to do a little cleanup with a shoulder plane, but we got to use the bench for the first time to hold the piece in place while we worked with the plane. Flattening the top of the Roubo. We had to lock down the tops of the bench to the base. The @benchcrafted kit came with the biggest Spax screws we’ve ever seen. Even as big as they were we still had to counterbore the cross rails since they were thicker than what the plans called for. We made the cross rails thicker to cover the over enthusiastic router work used to make the mortises ;). A little wax on the monster Spax and they went right in. Once the base was locked down, it was time for the @lienielsentoolworks No. 7 jointer plane to come out. The tops were in pretty good shape so it didn’t take long to get the tops flat. After the slabs were flat, we drilled the dog holes in the top using a bushing sold by @leevalleytools We inserted the bushing into a 2x4 that had been jointed/planed flat first. Cutting the Roubo workbench tops to length. We’re excited to get to see the tops on the base. It’s starting to look like a workbench. We laminated up the back slab without ever cutting it down, so it’s super long. Now’s the time to get the front and back slab into place and even them up. The track saw couldn’t cut all the way through, so we flipped it and cut from both sides. Last time we had to cut the slab we made the first cut with the track saw and finished the cut with a handsaw. This was way quicker! The one slab is so much redder (more red?) than the other one. That’s because we had left it outside under the carport and the sun darkened it up so beautifully. We’re going to lose a lot of that color when we plane the tops flat, but it’ll come back eventually. In this short video, we route out the dado for the dead man. First up is laying out for a 3/4" wide dado that runs from just inside the mortises for the legs. Then we chuck up a 5/8" straight router bit in the router since we didn't have a 3/4" bit. Then we set the depth of cut to 1-1/2" on the router. Once the router is set up we route the dado in 2 passes. Then we square up the corners with a chisel and clean out the waste. Viola a dado made for a dead man! In this short video, we route out the mortises on the underside of the tops. After having marked the mortise locations yesterday, we moved the base out of the the way. We set up the router with a 5/8" bit and a fence guide. First, we routed the walls of the mortises nearest the outside of the bench. Then repeated with inside walls. And finally hogged out the waste. That's all we had time to do today, it was a short day! Laying out the mortise location on the underside of the Roubo Workbench In this short video, we lay out the mortise location on the underside of the tops. First, we level the table and place both slabs upside down on it. Then we cut the back slab even on one side so we can get it lined up with the front slab. Then we flip the base upside down and get the outside of the legs lined up with the front and back of the tops. Once everything is lined up, we trace the outline of the tenon to mark the location of where we will route out the tenon on the underside of the slabs. Unfortunately, we had the base oriented with the leg vise to the rear, so we had to rotate it and re-mark it! In this short video, we flatten the short cross rails and add ledger strips for a later shelf We use a straight edge to check for high spots in the short cross rails. We'll use a combination of the shoulder plane and block plane to knock the high spots down. This is done so that when we add the tops later they will sit flat and hopefully minimize the flattening of the top of the workbench. Next, we cut strips of cherry to make ledger strips. After the strips were cut we used the dado blade on the table saw to cut a rabbet. The rabbet is sized to fit the dado in the lower cross rails. The ledger strips need some fine-tuning with the shoulder plan and cutting out relief for the barrel bolts from the knockdown hardware with the drill press. Once the ledger strips were fit to the dado they were glued in and clamped. Also, our dog Ruby shows up and lets us know she's unimpressed.
