Has anyone studied the instinct process of exactly how stones get into the gizzard? Exactly what triggers the birds to know when they need to eat pebbles, of what size, when to stop? If they were removed, would the chicken immediately know it needs to eat more pebbles? Does improperly digested food farther along the tract trigger an instinct to eat pebbles? Or is it all just based on chance...and that just regular eating will eventually include some sort of stone or grit?

When you say to put in existing flock members with quarantined birds after three four wks donyou mean actually penned together or just sharing a wall? Or just same room different pens?
