The Office of the Chief Medical Officer for the City of Austin/Travis County is responsible for comprehensive medical oversight of all clinical care provided in the EMS System which is comprised of over 2000 first responders, EMTs, and Paramedics.

CPAP may be helpful in creating a tighter seal and therefore increasing the FiO2. A nonrebreather entrains a lot of room air as the patient breathes and provides far from 100% FiO2 as is sometimes taught. The improved alveolar recruitment with CPAP also helps with gas exchange if there is any atelectasis. But CPAP itself does not increase the pressure of oxygen felt at the cellular level.
