The Dartmoor 'cat' is called Frank Lee. And Frank Lee doesn't exist. I've wild camped on Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor for the better part of 50 years and aside from a fox attack nothing out of the ordinary has ever happened. Foxes on Dartmoor tend to be taller and darker than off the moor, any sighting is likely to be a mistaken identity.

I imagine their is a lot of mistaken identity, but I can't imagine everyone is mistaken, and even if their is nothing on Dartmoor, we know they are in the country from the DNA evidence found. Steve.

That's right, the genus Panthera contains the five extant big cats. Panther is used to refer to melanistic leopards and jaguars. I would guess the sightings of large black cats are melanistic leapards. Leopards are a very adaptable animal and have a very wide geographical distribution, so could have easily made themselves at home if released in the UK.

They are there. Seen a puma and black leopard. The puma was from 150 yards through a rifle scope at dusk. No mistaking it. The leopard was in a black currant patch and chased by my dogs. I thought they had put up a rabbit, and I had the GSD run straight passed me, closely followed by a slightly smaller GSD, and a few seconds later my lurcher playing catch up. They were all on the headland now and the lurcher soon caught them up. I ran with the torch on full beam now, and saw the dogs under a hedge barking up an apple tree. I shone the torch up and saw two large green eyes looking down at the dogs. As I got closer, it's gaze was split between looking at the threat below and the approaching one with the torch. The GSD looked back at me and her eye's where half that of the leopard they had tree'd. I got within 15 yards and saw it look at me one more time, turn and drop down into the orchard the other side of the fence. I could barely make out it's shape as it was so black. My daughter has also seen one and I have heard them at night many times. I heard a pair of lynx squaring up last year. There is 450,000 badgers in this country, yet many people have never seen a live badger in the flesh. Fox's and deer are almost as elusive. They can have a territory of well over 150 square miles. The chances of seeing one without the help of hunting dogs or pure dumb luck is remote.

@@UnexplainedFilesUK Because there is so much ridicule, much evidence remains in private hands and is only shown to trusted knowers. I have been shown video of a female leopard and cubs in the background of the item of interest. They are blurred but clearly recognizable. I have also been shown trail cam photo's of a leopard. Set at a burst of three, it shows the leopard walking in front of a gate, then turning towards the camera and finally looking square on at the camera. 100% black leopard. It's a shame that so many take this as a joke and make folk so secretive about their evidence. Open minds attract truth.

I used to travel down to north Devon a lot when i passed my driving test,& used daydream of spotting a big cat because of exmoor beast story’s,unfortunately i didn’t but when out off road bike riding with a group of about 13 guys in my local area which is North Hertfordshire about 15 years ago, only me & one other guy saw something odd,the corn was at its full grown & not yet harvested when something the size of a labrador crossed out of the field across a double track bridleway & into next lot of corn which only came up to lower shoulder height with back showing until it reached a hedge & was gone. It didn’t stop to look at us as it crossed the bridleway which if it were a lost dog would have been all over the place. When i got back & looked online there had been quite a few sightings Cottered/cromer area, this is normal countryside near large built up towns. This was great to see but it was just too far away to say for definite. Hope this is of use to you,& one comicaI moment i was out riding off road near whipsanade zoo/Bedfordshire one evening, during the day it was reported a big cat had escaped that day,i carried on working & thought nothing of it until riding up a track i heard a large sounding rustling in the bushes & in a panic rode up a dead end & had to retrace the same way and saw nothing. In this area which again is fully built areas with just normal countryside in between & has sightings within. Going back to the beginning i remember reading some where that a big cat could have a 250 sq mile radius because of my trip to Devon was 250 miles it could easily be looking for territory & cover this distance. I’m just intrigued, I don’t follow reports just saw this video & let you have my experiences.

Sorry, a bit late to the party on this one but what an amazing video. After the confirmed big cat dna finding, i now find that really interesting. I always thought it was something like a maine coon, so still a big cat but a domestic cat none the less. Any pictures or footage is very grainy and hard to interpret as a 'big cat' most probably just a black cat out for the hunt. Loved the video, especially the beautiful scenery. Really jealous i wasnt there❤👻

This kind of funerary mound is known as a bowl barrow, as opposed to long barrows which were from a much earlier period. Gallantry Bower had a relatively small excavation which began in May, 2023. No artefacts or manufactured grave goods were found. Some stones were discovered which were anomalous & unusual, in that their geological composition was markedly different to the soil & rock strata of the barrow. Also, several stones were discovered with flat bases, suggesting they may have been possibly gaming pieces or playthings.

SO glad I did because my initial response was to just not watch more of the vid. I put that aside and watched. I'm glad I did. lol. You guys should prob be a bit less ironic in the outset of your vids. I don't doubt there are big cats, there are plenty of people back then (and now) that had enough money and were selfish enough to just dump 'em when they found themselves with potential legal issues. The thing to notice is how many reports there are of big cat attacks on people. Pretty sure it's nada. We're not their prey, we're problems so they avoid us.

There was a guy in Barnstable, Devon that had one for a pet in the 70s. There’s a film in the British film archives, with him walking it up the street next to a primary school. There was also a butcher in north Devon that had one as a pet and kept it around the back of his butchers shop. May grandmother on the other hand adored it and used to feed it whole chickens she raised in her garden. @@dorsetbigcats6292What is incorrect exactly? I visited Sparkwell at the time & witnessed lions being kept in a small enclosure, with a fence no more secure than tennis court in a local park. Eyeing the gap under the gates, which the lions were throwing themselves against, I suggested it might be time to go. Also one of the staff wrote a book in which they made a point of saying that they could not maintain the enclosures adequately.

@@sarahstrong7174 The Lady doth protest too much, me thinks. The founder and former owner Ellis Daw, was a tad eccentric, alternative even, but he was no fool as far as the security of dangerous big cats were concerned.

@@dorsetbigcats6292 The staff knew one of the big cats was able to get out but was in the habit of returning to the enclosure. I think the owner knew but just was not coping any longer.

Big Cat DNA was found in Cornwall over ten years ago

I would love to go to the Winchester mystery house 😁 its such a fascinating house with a very different story to anything i've ever heard before. I've only ever heard of the 'paranormal' side to the house and Sarah Winchester and the séance room. Stairs that lead to nowhere and doors that open to a big drop. This video, as you say here, does feel like a passion project for her and that this enriched her life and the people around her but would still love to see a case file on the 'darker side' and would definitely love to see you guys investigate there 👻

Just found your channel guys really enjoyable. If you Google 'Big cat fife police' you will see that the police themselves up here believe they have a plaster cast of a leopard paw print and the question is no longer do they exist but how are they managing it? The 1976 dangerous wild animals act and the subsequent release of pets into the countryside does seem to explain the existence of most of the cat sightings but there have been sightings of a black panther type entity seen on the Island of Mull, the sea being an insurmountable barrier for the cat to cross? Equally, in Scottish mythology there was the 'Cat Sith', or the 'fairy cat', which seems to be a large solid black cat with a white spot on it's chest, so there seems to be legends surrounding large black cats. What people forget is that in 1980 a puma was trapped in the Highlands , however she did not fit the description of the big cats that were being seen by farmers , Felicity, as she came to be called, was incredibly tame so general opinion was that she had not been 'released' very long, though her scat seemed to suggest she at least scavenged red deer carcases .

Hey, thanks for the great info, maybe they have been here a lot longer than we realise, their is no reason why foreign travellers couldn't have bought them back hundreds, if not thousands of years ago, and also with the more recent releasing of peoples exotic pets back in the 70s, certainly makes you think. All the best. (Steve)

Just for your info, guys.....the original part of the church dates back to 1340, with the north aisle added in 1450 & the clock at the base of an unusual octagonal shaped spire is from around 1709. You're welcome. 😂
