I fell in love w/ Mercedes in the early 90s. My first purchase was a190E. My second was a S500 Coupe. Now I’m fascinated by this model. Thank you for your detail.
Maintenance records. Car should have years of maintenance records depending on how long the current owner has had it. Multiple owners... I wouldn't buy the car. Define multiple owners... I'd say...a W140...this is 2024 now...W140 from the 90's with.... 5/6 + owners...red flag for me. Title check...salvage or not. Now...seen it personally... insurance adjuster will total a car vs repairs and a buyer...shop...gets around that salvage title and has a clean title issued after having repairs done.
My father used to own this magnificent of a car an infact was his first Mercedes. Unfortunately he sold it after replacement parts kept being expensive. He was only able to drive the car for only 2 years, which may seem to be a short period of time. But to him, it was more than enough
as a BMW driver, and Fan, I love the e38, adore it, that being said i would get me a beautiful *Black* because the rest of the colors are terrible in my opinion w140 s320 1995-1998 or s500 because it's the better car
Oh yes I agree. The Benz is better than the bmw. Benz is number one, bmw is number two and Lexus is number 3. Lord and lady of them all is the rolls Royce and the Bentley
lol high temperature and failing catalytic converter i have in my w202 😂😂😂😂 and a lot of what i hear i also has them on my W202 or they are about to happen
Now, what they don't tell you is these are a pain in the a$$!!!!!!! Lose power, or as in the video remove the radio for any reason and the radio locks up - requiring a code to be functional again. Just replace this garbage with an after market and you'll be much happier! You won't have to call Mercedez or beg some repair outfit to give you the code. Mercedez never thought about the idea that these cars might become classics and that somewhere in their past someone replaced the radio and the radio code didn't get passed along. So your VIN number does no good. The repair centers only want to soak you for giving up the code, by the radio's serial number, far more buying a new and modern radio with BT, AUX, and Alexa built-in.
I am not a fan of the "Sacco panels" in their original two-tone form. I think they weighted down the cars visually and made them look ponderous. The cars looked far better when the two-toning was removed.
Unique Question, I think. This unit was in the trunk of my 300sdl when I bought it. Sold the car; kept the radio. I’d like to use it outside; ang reason it couldnt be powered by my 12v landscape transformer?
I’m now in a W211 but I still remember the amazing ride of the 300E W124, today’s cars don’t come close. My W124 retired after 28 years of reliable, elegant service-awesome machines.

I was lucky. I bought a 1995 E300 diesel with the biodegradable wire harness already replaced. Cheap transportation. I have had for 7 years now. Street tanks, plus the OM606 engine is very reliable. I also had a 1987 OM603 300D. Went to almost 600k. Keeep up with the maintenance.
When I drive other cars without the hood ornament, it's definately not as easy to determine distance from front bumper to obstacles e.g. while parking or slow moving traffic.
Excellent video!! I need advice. I have two purchase options, a 1991 SL 300 or a 1995 SL 320 (both in good condition). Which do you think is the best option? I have read that the 1989-1992 models do not have biodegradable components and the mechanics are less complex and therefore less expensive to repair. Is this true? what dou you recommend? i just bought a perfect condition, stock 95 e320, and i so appreciate how it is in factory condition! appreciate enthusiasts like the previous owners that had so much respect for the original design. I plan to maintain it the same :)
I had a 140 600 SEL. I have a Bentley, very late model Jag, and other very nice cars. That 600 SEL not only is the best car I have ever owned, it's the best car I've ever sat in, period. The 0-60 time of 6.5 is not accurate. Car & Driver tested one in 5.7. It was a very quick car.
You missed the phone and middle cupholders along with the 2 hidden spaces ( one on the dash above the climate system, and the space under the built-in phone system
I bought my R129 300 24 SL as a 50th birthday present yesterday i reached 73, the SL keeps me busy it has 132000 miles on the clock, I am getting it ready for spring but suddendly i have very low idle 300 on start up ( cold) it struggles and stops , then after three or four attempts it stabilises and slowly increases to 900 rpm, then as the engine warms up it increases to 1500 rpm. So i have started to trouble shoot without success .Perhaps a temp sensor BUT when warm it has the same symptoms on start up very low idle, i have changed the idle control valve it didn't cure the defect. As i said it keeps me busy /Lets hope its not an ecu problem. The engine is pretty bulletproof but don't scrimp on oil changes they are a must for long-life in 23 years i have replaced one steering joint and an oil seal on the diff, previous owner replaced the oil seal on the auto box crank seal and both front wings due rust. Having said that this year i overhauled all the brake calipers and replaced all shock absorbers and a few brake lines, Its a great car to drive and one accepts the MPG 23mpg max. I also own a W212 E class and believe me when i say the SL is made of far better materials.
Brings back memories. Used to drive this car back in the late 90s belonging to a timber tycoon and also my rich brother in law when we go out for entertainment. Its huge and comfortable car.
