Hi and welcome, I'm Colette and I love to sew. I started sewing about 2 years ago, I'm completely self taught and have this channel to document my journey, and I'd love to invite you ago.
On this channel I intend to do a lot of sewing and garment making, by experimenting with different sewing techniques, like machine sewing, hand sewing, dress making and trying a bit of tailoring.
I'm not the classic big 4 block size, I'm quite short waisted and have a bigger bust size than the standard pattern size, so I'll be attempting to fit patterns, hack patterns, review patterns and trying to even draft patterns to get my me made wardrobe to fit. I'll be sharing all the tips and tricks I learn along the way.
I'm sure there will be some fabric hauls, thrift flips with DIY fashion and upcycling clothes, look books and maybe even the odd sew-a-long as I attempt to complete a mainly me made wardrobe, so I invite you to hit that subscribe button and join me on my sewing adventures.
i’ve sewn a lot of things but have never made a shirt from scratch! this is making me think i can do it. i haven’t been able to thrift the perfect shirt for the ren faire season this year yet and i’m really wanting to try something new! and good video!!
Thank you Han! This shirt was pretty simple to make, I'd definitely recommend looking at the closet historians video too!! I've never been to a ren fair, they don't have them where I live 🙁
@@sewcolette i'm after getting to be an old dog, lifting arounnd nothing i don't need to lol, the wheel truly was the greatest invention. my space is very small, guilty of way too much stuff, need to have it function well so wheels making life easier to access what i need at a given time
Hi Cindy, unfortunately I don't live in the State's, but that sounds like a good deal! I've never been to a Walmart, but from what I can make out they seem to sell everything!!
I purchased bed risers to raise my cutting table, sold in the USA near mattress pads and bed sheets…online sources should abound. They come in multiple heights so take that into consideration to get the height you need. Best wishes on your sloped journey. Chris in Florida
looking forward to seeing how you do the sloper! I don't understand how the sloper works. I have fitting issues and it makes me want to give up on sewing!
I was the same, every pattern I made seemed not to work out, and I got really frustrated. Thats why I'm working on this sloper pattern. Don't give up on sewing, its not you its the pattern. I guess the idea of the sloper is you make this pattern fit using the instructions, then you take those adjustments and do them to other patterns. So far I have learn that from my shoulder to my bust point is shorter than the vouge pattern, I made a small adjustment and it made a big differnce. I'm hoping to get the video up soon and you'll be able to see!
Looking forward to seeing you get the knitting machine out! I had one inherited from a great aunt, was big and clunky and I could not figure out how to cast off....
Yeah, I'm not quite sure how it all works, but mums has used it before, and I think I found the instructions online. Fingers crossed I can figure it out, then make a video about it 😊 or maybe the video will be of me launching the thing out my window 🤣
Just happened to see this video, the bust adjustment was fascinating. Not sure I could do it but will see if I can figure it out. I'm not short waisted but other than that, your measurements are the same as mine so I believe your coming videos will be helpful.
Nice, nice result. Pattern fitting is always an exercise in problem-solving. It's so individual too, I have found the high bust measurement gives me a much more accurate fit. I usually require a forward shoulder adjustment and sometimes a narrow shoulder adjustment. I have also found that fabric choice makes a tremendous difference in success and not so much (I don't like the term fail because if I have completed it it's a win in my book).
Thank you Jan. Yes! It is all about problem solving, and I love it!! I think I might be getting the Vogue shell pattern for Christmas and I can't wait to figure out how to get it to fit me ☺️. I also don't like the term fail, every garment I make gets me a little bit closer to being a better sewist ☺️
Hi Debra, sorry for the delayed response, the holidays have been hectic ! Not sure it quite fits me so well now after all the indulging 😉 Happy New Year's!
Omg only just saw your comments Diane, so sorry for not replying sooner, it's been crazy with the run up to Christmas! I hope you had a wonderful holidays. Thank you for the comment, I wouldn't have thought I could do this a few years ago, but it's all in the Practice, physical and mental ☺️ Happy New Year's!!
Maybe, but I am quite short waisted and adding more length would have made the waist lower on me, I don't know? What do you think? Do you think the waist is too high? I am still learning and this was the 1st time I've tried ☺️
FBA is usually done differently but it still worked. Mockups really work don't they? Your plaid matching looks especially great .. very couture. Very flattering.
Hi Susan, thank you your comment, I'm still learn really, I'll have a look and see other ways of doing fba, I'm just pleased I don't have that arm hole gap anymore ☺️. Pattern matching is so difficult, most of it is luck not judgement 😋
Please do a full tutorial. I am a beginner sewist and I need all instructions from the adjustments to how to sew seams. Please do not skip anything as I plan to sew this dress. Thank you in advance.
