You've cancelled St George's Day celebrations, yet you're openly celebrating Eid. You're so spineless and afriad of hearing what people think of you that you've turned comments off. To the social media employee reading this, you're a coward.
This 1st May event is an important scene in the 1993 movie " Shadowlands " with Anthony Hopkins as British writer Clive S Lewis (Chronicles of Narnia) 🧐
The cloistered elite: how precious and exclusive! In France this kind of privilege doesn't exist: church music of the highest order is available to ALL, rich and poor.
Wonderful memories of a wonderful event. Many more people than in 1964-69 and no one jumping from the bridge into the river. Thanks for such an uplifting video in these troubled times. Ian Mycroft
This brings back fond memories. I participated in this event during the three years I was a student at Magdalen College, and in particular in 1988, exactly 30 years ago, I was able to get one of the limited number of tickets given out to students via a draw, allowing me to be at the top of the tower when the choir performed. We had to be there before 6 am, which is when the singing begins. Thousands of people were in High Street down below, but they went dead silent once the singing began. Afterwards there was a carnival atmosphere in the street for a couple of hours. Some people stay up the whole night before, going to bed after the ceremony and festivities.
Ironic that heretics are maintaining the musical heritage of the Catholic Church whilst the modern Catholic Church is becoming Protestant in every way.
Fascinating and all together splendid! I acknowledge my prejudice, since I had the delight to study at Magdalen from 1958 to 1962 when the great Bernard Rose was Informator Choristarum. Happy memories...
