Welcome to my channel!

I'm currently trying to improve upon my upload schedule, and in general you can expect one to two videos each weekend. Uploads during the week will be exceptionally rare.

I've just opened a patreon, where I will post behind the scenes and extras, including uncut footage!

I haven't seen one of those ECS i-Cafe motherboards in the longest time. That brings back memories. I think I serviced one of two systems back in the day that had those motherboards. That AM2 will hold back the 8800 GTS for sure, but it works!

A P4 2.0A is a 2GHz Northwood, or second gen P4 and was launched in Q1 of 2002. I had a Willamette 1.6 for most of the '00s. But I overclocked it to over 2.5GHz, which basically doubled performance. So overclocking is something you could think about doing for a future video. I don't know if any P4s are unlocked but most weren't so you'd have to OC the FSB. And you need a MB with a BIOS that lets you do that. A 25 year old capacitor doesn't necessarily have to be bulging or leaking to be bad. The GF3 Ti500 is the GPU I had in my P4. Pretty sure I overclocked that too. Just FYI, you can get an 8400GS PCI GPU (most powerful PCI GPU made) and they're cheap. It could help with testing older hardware and assist in testing old GPUs because you should be able to boot up with display out from the 8400GS and see if the system recognizes the AGP card that doesn't give display out. If it recognizes the card with no display, there is a good chance a re-cap would bring it back to life. I have a couple of them, including a NOS VisionTek one that I bought for $30 or so about 3 years ago for a PIII I have with no AGP slot as it was a scientific or medical PC and there is some obscure port in place of AGP. The VisionTek NOS ones are all sold out now but you can buy a used one on eBay. Be extra careful if you decide to get one because there are far more PCIe ones out there than PCI. Fun fact, the 8400GS is also the only GPU I'm aware of that is available with a PCIe 1x connector.

@@Lurch-Bot I know Willamette was the first generation, and I know this one is Northwood from the heat spreader design and L2 cache, but this was the first generation that was designed to take advantage of the improved electrical design of the 478 socket, compared to Willamette which was designed for 423. Admittedly though, I had forgotten that there were a small handful of Willamette CPUs that were released for 478 as they prepared Northwood for release. As far as the capacitors go, that is absolutely true, but I'm not currently equipped for capacitor testing, and I don't have the funds to replace all the capacitors on every board I get :P although... I may just give that a shot on the graphics cards I have that don't work.

Hello there ! (I had to do it since you've played Battlefront 2 :P) I agree with 99% of what you said throughout the video but I have a question considering the games you don't want to install: do authorities really bother ? Since it's a used machine I mean, they must have better things to do than harassing a simple folk that flips PCs occasionaly lol I don't know a lot how the situation is in the US (competition between sellers etc.) but I hope you'll be able to sell that rig for at least the price you mentioned considering the work you put into it, and that custom case btw, simply rad ! I know how much time it can consume: Here in my country I'm more specialized in refurbishing old laptops and installing/configuring 98 (& DOS sometimes) on them (I hoarded a lot through the years and want others to enjoy them. I'm also more interested in desktop parts so that money goes most of the time into rare cards I don't own still, or other hobbies. I'm not seeking to get rich through this activity lol) which is a CHORE with especially with all the different drivers between modems, LAN cards, sound cards etc. (btw there's no SDI in 98 AFAIK), like it can take an entire evening to configure and test one properly. I found building an XP rig to be so much easier (thanks SDI, broad compatibility etc.) but here people don't want to pay the right price for the amount of work put into it. Even ~100€ seems outrageous to some potential buyers here while selling a worse specced 98 machine that won't access many great XP-era games is far easier. The clientele for these machines seems to be 40-50 year-old so people who are earning the most $$$ while still working / not retired and mostly not much interested in XP-era games considering they were not young enough to feel any nostalgy, but that's just a guess ! Maybe in a few years these XP machines I have gathered will become more appreciated by younger (& older) people. Ecologically speaking I'm really not keen on trashing perfectly working but "obsolete" PCs...
@LowSpecActionSquad
@LowSpecActionSquad 11 дней назад
@@kami4542 The truth is the authorities don't really care If you "forget" to uninstall games before you sell the PC. However, they DO care if you advertise the fact that you're going to do that. It all comes down to image and reach in the end, If it looks like I'm promoting piracy on RU-vid, then I will definitely get a letter in the mail about it and the video could get taken down. As far as selling the individual components of a PC, it's usually a lot more profitable to do that. However, as the prices of these individual parts increase, people selling these parts for profit can end up being accidental gatekeepers to the hobby. I know a lot of people who are interested in getting into vintage PCS, but simply don't have the money to go out and purchase the things they want. For example, I got lucky when I found my Voodoo Banshee in a trash computer, there's no way I could have afforded any 3dfx card just by going on eBay and buying them. Hell, most voodoo cards sell for more than I paid for my car lol
