My name is Bobby and I made this channel due to my love of baseball and statistics. My Stat Stories series is where you'll find concise data-driven stories about players and teams, both current and historical. I also have a Baseball Explained series that is beneficial for both new-comers and hardcore fans.
I'm not currently active on RU-vid. Check out Sportstorm, Stark Raving Sports, Sadman Baseball, Eephus, and Foolish Baseball for similar content.
The fact that there are so many teams feeding the mlb shows that baseball could have been a cultural cornerstone the same as soccer in many parts of the world. Would have been amazing to have a relegation system with teams strictly representing their city/town/community rather than franchised system where teams jump around cities.
This video is really good at explaining the system but for anyone seeing this, it's slightly out of date. In 2022, MLB added another wild card team to each league. The only real differences is that now the lowest-seeded division winner partakes in the Wild Card round against this new 6 seed. This round is now also a best-of-3 series. Other than that it's the same.
Cool to see the hype for players who would form the core of a rising Marlins team. Even though Bleday didn’t work out and Sanchez hasn’t played since 2020 bc of weird injuries, Sanchez and Cabrera are solid starters and Chisholm is a star and easily the face of the team
Great Info! The Giants have retired Ott’s #4 but he deserves a statue as well , Hubbell, Bill Terry, McGraw and other NY Giants deserve more respect from current day Giants organization & fans too… oh, coincidentally Ott has a Bay City tie … he managed the Oakland Oaks (PCL) for a few seasons before his tragic passing in Nov, 1958
This was made 4 years ago mlb has changed the playoff format since then. Now there’s 2 wild card series in each league consisting of 4 teams thats best out of 3 instead of just 1 game, and the top 2 division winners in each league get a bye and skip to the divisional series
A seed is basically just a ranking system to determine who goes where in the playoff bracket. The 1st and 2nd seed teams skip the wildcard round and go right to the divisional series. The 3rd 4th 5th and 6th seeds go to the teams that will play in the wildcard round. 1st seed goes to the division winner with the best record in their respective league. This year it was the orioles in the AL and the braves in NL. The 2nd and 3rd seeds go to the remaining division winners in order of win/loss record. For this year in the AL that was Houston with the 2nd seed which also means they get a bye (meaning they skip the wildcard round) and the twins got the 3rd seed. It’s a little confusing because a team like the rays have a better record than both Houston and the twins but since they didn’t win their division they end up getting the 4th seed.
Thanks so much for this explanation! I've always loved baseball and I'm trying to help my team reach the post season in 'Road to the Show' in MLB The Show and I'm soooo close to getting a Wild Card spot. I'm into September and the 5 game series against TB (division leaders at the moment) will decide it. I'm playing as Boston.
Ever since I was a kid I figured he was one of the greats seeing his number on the wall at at&t park and his name with the only other giants in the 500 club. Good to know!
