Bass hates Charlie for the same reason he hates Rachel- both are competition for Miles attention. Bass's family was wiped out by a drunk driver before the blackout. Miles is as close to any family Bass has left. But Miles has "blood" family which makes Bass deeply insecure. Charlie hates Bass on moral grounds. And she blames Bass for killing her father, killing Danny, and keeping her mother from her. One is jealous, the other is contemptuous. There is no "chemistry"
In my opinion, Bass always was in love with Rachel and she was in love with Miles and Ben but Rachel came to respect Bass always kept his word to both Rachel and Charlie #Revolution
If only Philip of Bavaria and Mary had wed - Mary would finally have had the long awaited unconditional love that she longed for, even if he was not a Catholic. He loved her for her.

My Charloe-shipping heart loves the fact that Bass refers to Gene as "Gramps" in this scene. Clearly, he's spending lots of time with Charlie, and the thought of Gene being a grandpa (rather than his dad, which would make more sense, age-wise) has subconsciously rubbed off on Monroe. ;)
