While I agree with those who have recommended that you remove the remaining hardware before painting, I understand and respect that it is your boat, your call. However, if you leave the stanchions and other hardware in place, I would strongly recommend removing the screws and use 3M 4200 to reseal them. Similarly, I would caulk the stanchion bases with 4200 as well after the painting is complete. I know how satisfying to get some paint down! You’ve definitely turned a corner.
Having restored a couple of boats myself, I’m totally addicted to watching your project. Great effort and great attitude! Question though…in the first video, I seem to recall seeing the deck flex when you grabbed the starboard davit. Later, it looked like you cut into the edge of the deck in the same area just above the deck/hull joint and water poured out. Did you have a particular problem in that spot, and if so how did you attack it? Good luck!
Glad to hear you have been here before with the old boat restoration, the davits was that big had heavy for the boat and definitely not suitable for this size boat and it was making it flex due to the shear weight of them, the water was inside the davit and not in the boat so once removed it was solid underneath, it was purely the davit causing the stress on the boat, so luckily no actual problem underneath ⛵️🙏🙏🙏 thanks for being here ⛵️⛵️⛵️
Got to admire anybody who takes on a project like this. I have seen so many lovely boats either on the sea or canal ways just being left to rot or have sunk and owners have walked away. We salute your enthusiasm and will watch and like every episode. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Looking great! Use a bit of thinners on the first coat any way. Don’t leave your drill with mixer paddle in the main paint tub like that, if that went over, you’d know about it. Make up quantities in batches in any case. That paint isn’t cheap. Roll and tip off with a synthetic brush, if you brush tip the paint out evenly over the tape, ought not do what happened on the fore section of the hull on the waterline (looked like the thicker part of the coat got stuck to the tape). Great name £’in Just trying to help others. 😉
This is great advice and very much appreciated, I have only painted a few boats and they was old fishing boats so it didn’t really matter as much, i thank you for this great advice and will be putting into practice on the top section of the little yacht 🙏🙏⛵️⛵️
@@BoatzUK yep, you’ll appreciate the better finish on the top sides. The paint keeps a better characteristic if you decant into a kettle and make up smaller batches. Forgot to say that using a decent synthetic bristle brush to lay it off is important. Looking forward to seeing her afloat, been following the vids since you started. Oh, nearly forgot, use the screwdriver at an angle to the can to pop the lid off 😂 that bit had me shouting at the telly 😂
@@johnmac4094 thank you for being here, and I thank you for your guidance it all helps, hopefully get a new video out for next Friday weather depending 🙏⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️
Great project. I did a solo dinghy about 7 years ago with AX and it sandes and polished very well super smoth but it will not shine. Machine polished and several compounds tried! Better than satin but no longer high gloss. I think it looks great. I will watch and see if you do better.
@@BoatzUK i still looks good and super smooth and you could wax (I did originally) or even try a ceramic coating if you want a high gloss. On the deck I would paint your coats on rub down smooth and hold some back for a final gloss coat if that is what you want. I was willing you not to use the entire can in one go. I had some for touch ups for a few years until the harder went off. I also used the same colour or possibly slightly darker and still like it! Good luck!
This song is just the best 🙌🤣 next time I see you, you must remind me where you got that done. Good to see Parrot in the background there, and Preston finally seeing some blue skies & sunshine ☀️ 🎉🦜
Are you planning to cover that lovely patio. I wish I had covered my drive, when I refurb my boat. I created extra work for myself. The wife wasn't happy.
Hey Cliff great video, quids in is looking much better now, shame about the ski boat though but makes sense i suppose, have a great weekend them pasties looked delicious and I'm glad I'm not the only one chopping wood for the log burner lol 😂 cheers 🥂
Thanks Paul, didn’t want to leave it sat on the driveway until next season so I will now bring the little yacht home in its place, the pasties was good 🤣 and it’s definitely getting cold now so I don’t blame John for getting his free wood from the boatyard 🙏⛵️⛵️
@@BoatzUK yes Cliff will be better having it at home 🏡 over the winter, what sort of time scale do you think is needed to finish it off? I'm the same as John all my wood is free have got a shedfull but still got more to cut up, but have resisted lighting the burner as yet cheers 🥂
@paulmartin4971 timescale was 6 month ago 🤣 other things have slowed me down, but over the winter months I can get a lot done at home as I am more equipped here than the boat yard as my joiner lives next door 🤣 just put my heating on tonight for the first time, don’t have a log burner so I am missing out 🍺 have a great weekend Paul 🥂
Bollocks ..absolutely devastated ..terrible name ....Remember mine from months ago ........... " Calle it SYMPATHIQUE...you know where i got that word from in the dictionary ? ...Between SHIT and SYPHILIS and that definitely looks like it needs sunk again....as you always end a sentence..." Its Gotta Go "🤣🤣 but you have definitely managed to shine that turd hopefully it floats like one too :P
Looking good Cliff, that good, I have a wee boat as you know, that could do with a fresh coat of anti fouling! 🤣🤣🤣On a serious note, its not till the montage at the end, that you realise how much you have got done, keep up the good work, and I'm liking the music, is that your dulcet tones?
Thank you 🙏 yes there has been a bit of work done when I look back 🤣 and the music is AI created so very easy to create any sort of track for the boats 🙏🙏⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️
She is finally starting to become the beauty she always deserves to be😍. Great name choice. And remember my offer for new spindles, i just need the measurements to get started, Any colour you want although i have some beautiful iroko blanks if you would prefer those oiled instead
Ohh thank you, I haven’t forgotten about that offer 😆 just going to get her back home next for the fit out so I will be dropping you a message, massive thank you 🙏 ⛵️⛵️⛵️
this is all i've been able to think about, and i just can't think of anything that means cheap and rhymes with Submarine/Sub. the best i've come up with is Sub-standard or Sub-par
