When you pause, you are still affected by momentum so if I jump and pause, I keep going. Ripto's shield doesn't have a hitbox when paused so I go right through it. After attacking him, if I stay next to him I stay inside his shield when it respawns. It's just an exploit in the game's design and physics
I remember playing this game when I was young. I was at the bossfight at the end, when my game save somehow corrupted at 99,4%, so I never actually finished it. Watching it back gives not only memories, but a little bit of redemption. I had to explain the corrupted save to my friend who owned the cartridge, I only borrowed it. Oof... these were the times...
Did you skip the opening dialog? Im working on a tas carbon copy of this and failed to do it. With how bad this run, Im sure it wont make any difference.
You can skip the opening cutscene if you reset the console just after you start a new file. Then, if you select continue on the main menu, you will have a brand new file (but it will keep the play time from a previous play through). This also begins the game in a semi-glitched state in which you have 0 lives which you can use in Country Farms to skip the level loading cutscene when going back to the overworld with a deathwarp.
@@Madbadgermad Was about to carry on with the tas, but I think it needs to be remade. Its not like I made much progress anyways. Thank you for letting me know! Fixing up the backtracking might be hard as I dont know where it happens. Could you make a list of the points you missed for me?
Its a glitch called 'Brock through walls'. I get my bulbasaur's move pp to a specific amount and then do another glitch to skip fighting brock which results in allowing me to walk through walls. You can find more details here: glitchcity.info/wiki/Brock_Through_Walls
Woah, nice one! I've never seen anyone play this game like you do, you do it really smoothly (if that makes sense). You must know it like the back of your hand by now! I've never been able to get the hang of that annoying imp freeze tag mini game, it's so frustrating, I can't get over how little time it took you. Congrats!
I remember this game so well for the most part, but I do not ever remember playing the Lunar Ledges level and I swear I played the game for like an easy 6 or 7 years
samuel bekele Samurai Jack? lol, yeah....I guess that would be what most people would think of when they hear Aku if they don't know about Crash Bandicoot
newageBoundhippie That was the one! Looked it up and they are thinking about continuing the series, but making it more serious and violent. You know since their target audience has grown a bit in the last ten years.
Nice find. And it does make it worth getting this firefly in a TAS (since you can get it to work on every jump). You can't do the game over warp in a TAS so you'd get this one instead of the Country Farms haystacks. I've been pretty busy last the few months but I might start working on a complete TAS of any% now, since I never actually made an optimised run. Just need to look around in case there were any other new discoveries while I've been out of it.
Ongnissim I stopped running it for about a month, but I've recently started doing attempts again about a week ago. Haven't beaten my 26:40 pb yet. I've actually been interested more in 100% though, learning the route and seeing if I could make any small improvements.
Probably wouldn't be useful for first jump. When you fall off, spyro bouces back onto the low level ground, not too hunter. Maybe a TAS could do it in a way that would bounce back to hunter.
From what I can see, the gem didn't just appear out of nowhere. Sparx picked it up but was unable to deliver it because he died during the process. Ofc Spyro cannot pick it up since Sparx already did, but since it never got registered it is in some pseudo state. I assume this makes it unable to complete the stage 100%? (without re-entering) Sick, this game hates 100% runs.
Yeah I have started running it now. my PB is 1:46:05 at the moment but that is only my third run so I will try to improve it before I upload a video. Yadra121 has a decent run of it with a 1:39:00 I think. Are you planning to run this?
Jumpyluff The route is pretty much there now. There may be a couple of small time savers here and there. Im not sure that the Temple of Dune route is perfect for instance. Also, the Gulp fight can probably be optimised. The only thing that would make a major route change is if a strat is found for the Gypsy Road imps but I haven't been having any luck with that.
Excellent work, as always! Really brutalising Ripto now. Also looks like your getting more consistent with the exit level firefly text skips which is nice.
Cheers! Yeah that was my best Ripto fight I have ever had so that will be hard to repeat. Going to be a tough run to beat but I can save 10 seconds on temple of dune. I'm working on 100% and all fireflies at the moment so will be back to this in a couple of weeks.
Hey man, I know you don't get a lot of views or subscribers, but I really like your channel and the runs you do. These Spyro GBA games really get me nostalgic. Thanks for your dedication.
I've just realised Haunted Hills could potentially be done faster if you make a slight adjustment to your route. Instead of jumping around the exit to the pumpkin near the water at the end of the level, do it at the start. Then run along the bottom path and continue the level as normal (You'll be maybe 2 seconds behind). The pumpkin you miss at the top can be got when backtracking to deliver the skull (taking about 3 seconds), and you finish after getting the firefly from the ghost, saving the 7-8 seconds it would take to jump down to the last pumpkin afterwards. It won't save much time, maybe a couple of seconds if you can do it consistently, but it should be faster.
Hey there, love your runs! I'm intending to do a tool-assisted speedrun of this game, and to practice I've made a test-run based on your route which you can see on my channel if you'd like (actually I've been working on it for a while so it's based on an old route of yours). In the future I'll explore the game a bit more, and while I'll probably find a lot of TAS-only tricks, I may also find some time-savers you could use. I'll keep you updated!
Nice run. I've been running this game for a little while now, and using this route I just got a 27:50.5. Hopefully I can get my own GBP soon so I can start recording and posting videos of my runs, since I don't really like using emulators.
