I'm glad this has been uploaded. I uploaded it in 2008, and 2 years later I was told I had to remove it. Perhaps they are more lenient now after nearly 20 years, or maybe it was because I had included the accompanying interview, in which Mr. Shaham displayed his injured finger.. Thanks, jtuba.
If anything he is underrated and doesnt get enough credit. Every single cliche " flashy, superficial" etc. has been unfairly used. Has an astonishingly wide repertoire and has done a lot for contemporary music.

This was the finale of 2 concerts 5/5/91 for Carnegie's 100 anniversary. Much of the concerts are also on RU-vid. Both concerts were the NYP with conducting shared by Mehta & Levine. It was supposed to be Mehta & Bernstein but as Bernstein died the fall of 90 they got Levine. Zubin made a speech dedicating this performance to Lenny. It was the end of a very long day & never to be forgotten.
The late great Roland Kohloff playing timpani. I was lucky enough to get a timpani lesson from him when I was at San Francisco State University . Such a gifted musician.
Not a Solti fan, this listener. For Wagner yes very enthusiastically. And his Bruckner while faceless is more than adequate ! But his slam bam thank you ma'am approach to most of the repertoire excessively emphasizing brass brass brass and more brass especially with the Chicago Symphony disqualifies him from serious consideration in a lot of the repertoire that should be his bread and butter late 19th and early 20th centuries
Eppure, purtroppo penso di aver offeso il signor Postorino Luca. Per venire al sodo, apprezzare i pregi di un musicista non preclude affatto riconoscere determinati difetti
To me, that looks like Phil Smith in the trumpet section, and after checking his bio, if I'm correct, that puts this between '75-'78. I'm pretty sure this is in London, but maybe it's the Pictures video that was done there
Masur excellent Mahlerian, performance with forward pulse and drive. Unfortunately, today’s young conductors micromanage, searching for meaning in every bar.
Two geniuses Bruckner and Solti .Symphony No. 7 one of the most esoteric - last Karajan concert, last Haitink concert,Celibidache great return with Berliner Philharmoniker and Regensburg Walhalla ceremonies.
