Had the pleasure to have a cuppa tea with Petticoat Lauri in the white Harte. Amazing stories, real life. The golden generation. Too have lived his life. We don’t know we born … God bless and thank you X
I have a fantasy in which I win the lottery, and I give Dan Cruikshank truckloads of money, all he could ever need, to save any and everything he loves.
Missing the wood for the trees completely. The singular threat to these buildings was corporate finance bulldozing them and British Land (owned by white billionaires and literal lords), when they brought the houses of the Bangladeshi people they still had the majority of their interiors intact and could restore them. When left to wealthy British elites that keep banking on about British History they were bulldozed. Because the wealthy don't care about working class history, or middle class history. You are commenting pretending that those at the top British Class System and corporate finance are somehow less powerful than 2 Bangladeshi families down the road. Are you literally insane. You either didn't watch the video or deliberately ignored every single point being made out of willfull ignorance.
I’d love to meet these true gentlemen .. Manny though is not alive now, passed on recently aged 104yrs. I was a West London girl, Notting Hill, which has changed dramatically, again money has taken over. My mother in law was an East London lady, she passed away about 1988-9 from cancer, I last saw just before she passed, in Whitechapel Hospital ...I really liked her, loved this lovely lady ... She used to get up really early to go up West to clean offices .... she had a hard life ....she lived in Hackney in a road off Tredegar Square, my how that area has changed now. Million £+ houses now as has Hackney itself along with Shoreditch/Hoxton etc across the river down to Brixton, Elephant etc all being tarted up for the moneyed ... all round Spittlefields Market and the market itself is now very up market. Social cleansing/gentrification of all London areas is big money to developers, N-S-E&W London, is being redeveloped for rich moneyed people only. The rich properties first of were around central London, now moneyed people are moving out further into boroughs they once turned their noses up at .. redevelopment, uber expensive rental pricing, expensive mortgage payments etc will be the death of how London used to be, Covid also will add more numbers to the already lack of vibrancy London stood for with many many businesses closing, causing lack of affordable housing as more and more people lose jobs, can’t afford to rent or buy and be forced to move out of London altogether ... London has already lost 5 major council estates, mostly S London, 3 estates, but also this side Shoreditch, West Hendon etc etc ..... I moved to East London 17-18yrs ago as it was still cheaper, not any more, first Walthamstow, Leyton and now Leytonstone to Sheltered Housing ... sadly it is what it is, even I, a born Londoner, am thinking of moving out further up the Central Line into the edge of Essex .. never thought I would ever say that 🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁 .....
