Grew up by Logan cpr area. Lived in the west end, walking home afterwork one day, down ellicr. looking like shit, was harassed by "johns", driving by unreal in daytime.
Nah, Winnipeg is pretty safe during the day,… do this cruise again at night…. As a mailman who used to deliver Ross/Pacific/Elgin/William (& Isabel) from Sherbrooke to Princess…. 50% of Winnipegs Murders happened on my walk and I never felt unsafe…. Won’t say it wasn’t entertaining as I delivered…. But I never felt my life was at risk…. At night??? Maybe that’s another story…. Just don’t be out late with stupid people at stupid places at stupid times…. ASP ;) - They dubbed my walk “the murder walk”

I grew up on Kennedy in the early 2000s, I was there from 05 all the way up to 2015 and been threw a lot there, I would like to do a video on more about how life is actually like being there everyday for years on end the only time I spent away from there is being In jail. I lived at 360 Cumberland House on the 18th floor overlooking Central Park from '95-99 while working security at the HSC. It is indeed a convenient location with everything you could need in walking distance. I walked to work in uniform up Notre Dame and had no problems. I had one break-in of my vehicle in the apartment parkade and the dipshit tried stealing it by breaking into the wrong side of the steering column. There was one drunk who got in and fell asleep at my doorstep who was at the wrong apartment, on the wrong floor, in the wrong building. That was it. At the time the Manitoba Warriors had several members living in the apartment buildings on the other side of the park and kept the street crime down. It was definitely a 'fuck around and find out' neighourhood with them there, so there was really no petty crime in the park. Kids played in the park all the time, families would picnic there, it was a quiet neighbourhood. While the park and streets may have been quiet, 411 Cumberland kitty corner to my apartment and next to that dental supply building had the worst reputation among emergency services in the '90s. That apartment was a nuthouse with so many assaults, break-ins and weird shit going on (I knew a guy working security there who had a call for an alligator in the hallway). Meanwhile, a few streets over the crime was really bad because the Warriors weren't there to keep things quiet. Assaults, murders, rapes aplenty. Most of the streets around the HSC were the same with Spence street known as Murder Row. I've been gone since '04, back '10-13' and now I hear it's actually worse around the HSC. Bloody shame, there's a lot of nice heritage buildings in that area.
Thank you so much for leaving your comment! The areas reputation amongst people who grew up here is definatley close to yours, there is never a dull moment in central park. Children often feel safe here, cause as you said petty crime used to be not as much of a problem. The problem is police only care to drive through the neighbourhood, or to make an arrest - as amazing it is to actually grow up and live and work in central park, it is neglected by our city.
You actually said that that is a great neighbourhood and then the next sentence you shared how terrible the crime is! Lol… I wouldn’t set foot on any street close to portage place
Exellent point! There are plenty of neighbourhoods with good design/access to ameneties that are facing hard times. If you ever have the free time I recommend looking up old pictures of central park, it was quite the expensive neighbourhood.
sad i can remember the street names. know exactly where i would be if trying to leave. had a friend who used to own a house you passed, sold it because it was loosing value. He said, don't walk to the 7-11 alone, that was 30+ years ago. I feel no need to return. ( had a job driving a tow truck, meet the best of ppl)
Thanks for posting this great video! I used to feed the squirrels in Central Park in the early '90s. There was the odd drunk or maybe some kids selling a little weed, but I never felt unsafe there🤷♂
