Great resource, thanks so much. I’m pretty to having my 1984 K100RT on the road again. Appreciating all the helpful videos and information like yourself on the RU-vid’s. Best regards, Allan
This is good stuff to know. I just bought a used R1200RT and that driveline lash was making me wonder if the guys sold me a bike where the transmission was falling apart. In the lower gears, you can hear it clearly when it transitions from engine braking to acceleration of vice versa.
I bought a 1995 R1100RS from a friend. It had sat for 7 yrs. Didn't run, no front brake, and he told me that the clutch was "slipping". Got a GREAT deal, since his wife wanted out of the garage anyway. So, Installed a new fuel pump/filter (now it ran). Emptied the tank, of course. Smelled like turpentine. Rebuilt the front master cylinder (now had front brake). Adjusted the clutch properly (no slip). Perfect! BUT...kept hearing squeaky noise when pulling out. Finally realized it was the alternator belt. Now good. What I'm getting at is...your videos are very helpful. Thank you.
Awesome video! I cut my own 8” piece of metal clothes hanger, figured if it’s working for you and others in the comments it must be “the way”. It looks like that part of things is set correctly, but my clutch isn’t engaging until I’ve let it nearly all the way out. I can’t imagine this is normal. Is there something else I should be looking at or is the clutch just shot? R80/7 and not the 75/5 like yours, so maybe thats where my issue is 😂
Man... The best and most complete video explaining the battery change. Been there three times through the years I own my R1150R and never get the air filter part. Never managed to put it back properly 😂. I am watching this video after I did the change but will be back on the bike to tighten things properly. Thank you for this video.
Hi Chris. When we gonna see you again? Also, you got any info on the BMW low seat conversion kit, and how much lower does it make the bike? All the best.👍🏾🛠️🏍️🇬🇧
Hi Chris, I'm enjoying your history of the R1100 sport, I really like the exhaust pipes out from under the seat , and wonder if they would fit my 2006 rockster ?
Hey Chris hope all is well with you! Just wanted to comment on here to say I still think of you and your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the community.
I'm not sure if Chris or anyone else checks these videos anymore, but I've got a question. I just replaced the left side cam chain tensioner on my 2006 R1150R. Turns out it was already the upgraded tensioner with the 15mm hex head - either the previous owner replaced it or BMW started putting them on the 1150R in the last year of their production. Either way, I had already purchased a replacement, so I went ahead and swapped it out. I'm glad I did because the one that was in the bike was completely seized. I couldn't compress the "plunger" at all, it wouldn't budge. My question is, based on this discovery, should I be concerned about the right side tensioner? I've never replaced the right side (have had a couple R's) but certainly would if it'd keep the bike running longer. Chris, if you read this, I hope you're keeping well brother. Thanks for all the fantastic content you've left for the world to learn from - cheers!
I have a problem with my 2001 R1200C . When I first start it cold it runs perfect until it warms up . Once the engine becomes warm the engine runs vary ruff and with in 2 secs. it will die . I like to know what to look for in what would cause this . Any help please .
Once it is open, I would connect two extra batterywires on the battery an lead them out somewere under the tank, - so you can start the bike with a jumpstarter if needed, - or for extern charging. So you only have to do all this work for changing a old battery.
I've been religiously airing up my tires to the recommended PSI; 32 front and 36 rear. I put a set of Metzler R8's on this Spring. After 6,000 miles I've had to order a new front tire due to serious wear on the left side of the front tire. I'm going to keep riding on the rear for awhile longer. It's getting squared off but still has some tread left. I'll give it a try; airing up the pressure. Hope it works!
I did some work on the tank of my 2003 K1200GT and I replaced two of the three gaskets - I didn't replace the gasket around the sending unit since I didn't remove that seal. After I put the whole thing back together, that was the one that was leaking! I had to cancel a road trip while I waited for the new gasket to arrive. Now I just change all the gaskets when I have the chance.
Chris. What a service these videos provide for thos of us with oilheads. The fact that you struggle gives you coinfidence and knowledge that you will encounter struggle and Chris shows you a way out. I had 2007 Gs 2016 Rt and nOw returning after 7 year lapse to a 2001 R1150R. After watching your videos and wrenching i actuallly became fond of the old girl. And with Beemer Boneyard i trust i can addrees her weakmesses. Thanks a million
Chris, My mirrors on a '04 R1150RT will not line up with the nipples. I suspect the previous owner bent the mirror in some way. Should I replace the Mirror Holder Brackets and nipples? I bought a new bracket that is on the mirror, and it would not line up.
as a how-to video this is good, but i would have to be high on several strong drugs before i would let a person of unknown skills/character start taking apart any bike that i have for sale.
damn.. should be a crime to let a bike get into that condition.. my 04 RT has been garage kept all it's life.. the original owner spared no expense maintaining it.. all the correct upgrades.. suspension, saddle, lighting, accessories.. every receipt, every manual.. i really got a great deal on it too.. unless i break it, i'll ride it as long as I want and still sell it for more than I paid.. it's my duty to keep it in the condition it's accustomed to..
i love my BMW's.. but.. as a rule.. i HATE 2 cylinder engines.. i just hate the sound... i have an 04 R1150RT.. nice low mileage.. pristine.. just sounds like crap.... i like my Honda v-4s and most inline 4s.. my k bikes sounds awesome.. i wish they had a 4 cylinder boxer engine.. same but add 2 more jugs.. so.. a goldwing.. lol..
When did you put new brake pads on i didn't see it? I would put everything together then lock up the brakes, then torque it down. How much would one expect to pay for a tire change?
