We are Celia, a book restorer and Enzo, a Sea Captain, who decided to change their lives and live between Lucca and Bagni di Lucca in Northern Tuscany. We want to share our love of the area, its beauty, and its culture and show you what ordinary life is like here. We also occasionally venture into the rest of the boot. We drop into Enzo's Neapolitan mother's recipe book and of course cook and enjoy local dishes with our Tuscany friends. If you are interested in renting our farmhouse just send us an email. Please subscribe to our channel to enable us to go and discover amazing people producing incredible food and keeping our ancient traditions alive. You will also meet our fellow villagers and see what life is like on a Tuscan hill and in the beautiful city of Lucca.
I haven't watched your clip yet but I once bought Tescos (UK) luxury spaghetti and it made a huge difference to my meal. I can't wait to watch this clip. Everyone, if you can, try to buy better quality pasta. It will make a much bigger difference than you might realise ❤😅😊
Rossi is one of the most common names in Italy and there are many Rossi families in Bagni di Lucca. We know several different Rossi families. To find out more you would need more information and then contact the village Parish.
Very impressive to watch you make such a lovely dish like this. Living in New Jersey (USA) I am not sure where I would find stinging nettles. Plus I am a little on the lazy side so making the pasta from scratch is something I'm embarrassed to say I have never done! But I really enjoyed watching this as it had a very calming effect on me. In a way it was like meditation. Thanks so much, love your videos.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Enzo cooks as a form of relaxation, and going into the land to collect ingredients makes the experience even more meditative.
Thank you so much for this video. My father always pronounced it "fazool" just as you did and I could never understand why. My great-grandfather was from Napoli and never spoke English to his children or grandchildren. After so many decades I never could understand why there were two pronunciations of fagioli, or fazool.
Thank you for your interesting comment. My grandfather emigrated to the NYC from Naples before WWI but decided to return home to marry my grandmother who didn't want to move overseas. He died before I was born but my father told me of the neo idiom spoken in NYC in the Italian community, a mix of English, Neapolitan and Sicilian. Now I can understand the origin of certain words I hear from my American friends.
Very interesting story. It seems that Viareggio Carnival is never over. After the parades same of the floats are not destroyed but are sent to events, parades, museums or even restaurants around the world.
Thank you for your kind words. It's been a difficult summer for us because of an unexpected serious health problem but we hope to be back on our channel soon.
Yes, we have been cheering for Jasmine. We have known her since she was 6 years old. Stardom and success haven't changed this lovely girl, who is now an extraordinary woman.
But would blind tasting, when the faster doesn't know about the change, make a difference? Knowing that it was cooked differently will probably affect someone's perception of they are keen cooks. I am guessing that most people wouldn't notice any difference.
I made more tests with this cooking method and I came to the conclusion that if one uses a rich abundant sauce it is difficult to spot the difference, nevertheless if one tries just the pasta cooked with this method in my opinion it tastes slightly slimy.
Bravo! You present Lucca in such a wonderful, personal way. We can't wait to get there. In the meantime, Michael (who by the way also has Enzo's hair - LOL!) will make panzanella. Grazie mille.
Hola!buscando videos sobre Luca, encontré vuestro canal. He mirado algunos de vuestros videos y me gusta vurstro estilo. Ciao!
Thank you for your lovely words. There are green areas outside the wall. The area by the river is a regional park. Lucca is surrounded by hills with wonderful country walk. The rents outside the walls in general are cheaper than inside the walls. Good luck with your search for your little bit of paradise
Love your passion and honesty. I'm in Italy right now until the end of the week and I'd like to stock up on some pasta to take home. Thanks to you, I have a much better idea of 'why' there is a difference between good pasta and bad pasta. Gratie!
The working title is The Towers. It will star Dustin Hoffman and Helen Hunt, Giacomo Gianniotti is also in the cast. If you have very sharp eyes you might spot me in a scene!
Heyy I am so grateful i stumbled upon your videos. Just came back from walking part of the St Francis Way and your videos serve as cooking inspiration. Just made the pasta with zucchini. Will try this soon - thanks again from The Netherlands.
So nice to have just run into you in Lucca and on our first hour in town! We will take this as a very good sign for our stay here. Plan to take a day trip to Peccioli on Sunday thanks to seeing it on your site. Thanks again and keep up the good work! Rose & Joe
We always love to meet our community. All your support means a lot to us. I hope you enjoy Peccioli and the surrounding villages with their art installations. Peccioli has been voted the più bel "Borgo d' Italia" this year so you might well find it more crowded.
So that's a likely reason why the grass in the churchyard opposite me and the field next to it is overgrown. I assumed the town council had met with insuperable financial difficulty - maybe not. I like the idea of the infusion which could be used in many other recipes so thank you for the reminder.
When you say village, like village suppers, do you mean a Lucca inside the walls? or do you live in a village outside the walls? I'd love to be involved in a community like that.
That nettle pasta looks so good! We used to cook nettles in France and my Zia would use them in cooking in Umbria too but I don’t think I’ve ever seen them in pasta. What a lovely recipe! Thank you so much for showing us 🪴💚🥰♥️🇮🇹
Grazie per la bellissima idea per il pranzo. You both are very inspirational to me. Next month I will be at my house in Umbria to get a feel for what will be the rest of my life. Thank you for sharing.
I’d like to say a huge thank you for your videos. When I decided to visit Lucca I found your videos and they helped massively. Your love for Tuscany really shows and they are wonderful to watch. I just got back today! I had the most amazing time. I actually spotted you both yesterday as I sat outside a church eating focaccia. I was even a little star stuck! I wish I could have said hello and thank you in person but you had disappeared. so thank you again for taking the time to show people your beautiful country.
Thank you so much for your lovely words and encouragement. We would of loved to have a chat. we are so happy you loved our city and hope you found some of the beautiful hidden corners.
Some of the ravioli shown in the pictures were made by me and we often make home made pasta. The ones that came from the shop were about 11 Euros and we had four generous portions. For the ragù I made a quick recipe as we wanted to eat the ravioli the same day and it worked very well.
That’s interesting to learn that Viviana’s customers ask per 100 grams. I always ask per etto. Great shop. Ours is wonderful, too! What a glorious view you have, and the sunset!
Is etto considered old fashioned, do you think? When I first came to Italy I used to ask for amounts in grams. I started using etto after I overheard other customers using it.
