Hi Levi, Marijuana was a word created to demonise all forms of cannabis. Hemp is in the cannabis family. It has been used for 1000s of years by humans for all kinds of things. The seeds are super food with high protein, omega 3&6. The fibre has 1000s of uses from clothes (the first jeans were made from hemp) to paper (the declaration of independence was first made from hemp) to rope and sails (the English Navy ruled the world thanks to hemp) and building materials from the Romans to modern day highly efficient hempcrete passive houses.
Hi guys this all sounds good but what about fixing out, doors skirtings, jams, architraves, cupboards etc, how do you secure these to the walls without it all falling off, also do you need to have the roof on when packing out the walls with hempcrete? And what about the external walls, can one use stone blocks or bricks as an external finish?

Hi Julien, thanks for the comment and glad you like the videos. I've seen issues with sand mixed in walls and other walls that perform better due to the extra thermal mass. But I think 'no sand. is now best practice...
I love this! I have been researching hemp homes because my current home has mold. Can you tell me what would happen if a builder would use moldy wood for the framework? Would that eventually spread like it does in a stick built home? I know it's happening a lot more with regular stick built homes causing homeowners to get very sick.
Using moldy wood would likely just cause the mold to spread through again, since mold only really needs a lack of sunlight and trapped moisture to grow on natural product surfaces like wood. If you're dealing with mold on the inside of your home and you can't move, I'd recommend getting dehumidifiers for the worst rooms since mold grows better in dark and humid conditions. If you can afford it, get an inspector or plumber to comb through your place for any leaking pipes since a leaking pipe will leech water in to very hard to reach areas, giving mold a safe starting point to grow out from. That's all I know though, try contacting a local building company and see what they have for advice.

Hi Jeremy. I'm with you on all aspects of hemp and other uses of this magnificent god given material. But please, don't torpedo your message by using that " ESG" rubbish. It is a wall street Black rock idea to control direction, people, money, councils & governments for their own ends. ESG us not a positive thing for anyone except Larry Fink & Bill Gates. Black rock invented, implemented & run the ESG scheme / fraud. Don't dance with these demons.
Thanks Mr J Doe, for your interesting thought provoking comment. It prompted me to dig a little deeper to compliment my knowledge gained through an ESG course I completed at RMIT. Have you done something similar? The content focused on SSI (Sustainability and Social Impact) which was the name for the course a few years ago, and ESG (Environmental Social Governance). The idea behind ESG is so that companies can develop their own ESG approaches relevant to their industries. This way they have targets to hit based on various metrics from appropriate 3rd party assessors. I feel it's better to have approaches and metrics in place than none at all. The building industry in Australia uses NATHER/BASIX, Greenstar and others. Another acronym is PPP (People, Planet Profit) but I feel ESG works better. Perhaps to make change on a grass toots level one needs to dance with demons...?

How are the external steel posts dealt with? Are they just buried within the hempcrete walls? I could be wrong, but I think there’s an issue using steel posts with strawbales because of condensation so they need to be boxed, is this not an issue with hempcrete? A great option if not 👍

I'll try that in my next video! Hempcrete is basically fire proof so it is used to build houses for areas in Australia like the Blue Mountains that need to have good fire proofing which is called a BAL rating in Australian code. Additionally it is hemp here, not any other kind of cannabis, plus the inner core of the stem, the woody part called the hurd, is whats is used... not smoke, which is more than acceptable!

What the hell is hempcrete. List only it’s positive attributes and how it differs positively and negatively for *con*-crete. Now! Drop everything. Make it a RU-vid short.

New to this but getting more information is great. Am building a ecohouse in Nuriootpa later this year and am wondering if hempcrete walls would do a better job as thermal mass walls in strategic locations in my build. Currently planning on brick. Interested in your feedback. Thanks
Hempcrete replaces the brick and all other wall infill material. Generally only used for external walls some owner builders like to have 1 or a few internal hempcrete walls for aesthetic and sound insulation.
I just finished a 3 day clay & lime plaster workshop in northern NZ. Great to meet like minded people seeking out alternatives. There were people planning on building in hempcrete. Will be great to see this translated into the mainstream. I look forward to incorporating into my eventual home. Keep making the videos!
I'm doing a clay/lime plaster workshop in a couple of weeks. I'm in NZ. Hempcrete seems like the way to go. Yeah - more details on slab seal process that you have stated were more cost effective, would be great. Or even the process of a consented earthen floor would be cool to see. Keep making the videos!
Good point and is certainly a FAQ. I'll do a post , and maybe even a video, on this one day. But cost is relative and one can consider architectural significance and long term savings in energy bills for a start...
