I've been getting discouraged with my art improvement progress and the rise of AI generated content. This has been a kick in the pants I needed tbh. Thanks man

My channel only has a bit under 400 subscribers at the time of writing this and I'm not making money on RU-vid. I write music and upload my songs there as a way to let people listen to it, but also as a way to archive those songs online. Ill always try to upload my best work, so my upload scedule doesnt exist. I'm happy with it. Not trying to trick some system, just taking pride in my music and hoping for the best.

This is something I'm really passionate about, because I had that calling for the longest time. When I was really young (like 12), I wanted to be a let's play RU-vidr, and I made quite a few accounts, as kids do, and try with no success to be a let's player. In fact, I got a lot more views by just making informed minecraft tutorials, which were pretty much non-existent in the Spanish-speaking community (This was like 12 years ago). After my co-host friend quit, I move into slightly better videos, until I eventually left it, cause being only a let's player is not too rewarding. But there always was that little calling inside, telling me I should make something, edit something, make people laugh, etc, because I've always loved to make people I care about laugh. And in 2019, I think, an ex-girlfriend asked me if I could take a recording of one of her friend's birthdays and make a little funny edit, which I agreed. It was short, yet funny for me, she loved it, her friend loved it, and the calling only grew stronger. Now there was a little voice in my head telling me, very often, "make a video", and I always kept wondering what would happen if I did? Obviously 2020 came, the pandemic hit, and we all had a ton of time, and I decided to finally do it. After watching way too much Caddicarus and Scott the Woz, I wanted to be like them, obviously getting praised is super fun and motivating, not gonna lie, but making people laugh like they did is something incredible. The best part, besides making other people laugh, or starting conversations with my videos, is that I can watch my own videos and laugh a ton, because I make sure I make the videos I would like to watch. Making stupid memes is what I love, and saying something and people actually discussing is super fun too. Also, I believe listening to the call might have taken me out of (a not professionally diagnosed) depression. I feel way more confident, I have something to do in general. It has just been something great to start. Right now, it's not the best time to be a RU-vid, creator, etc. It's always the best time for you, if you want to be one, and you become one, it's incredibly gratifying. I'm writing this with my creator account, and not my personal one cause it's way too fitting to do so. Starting this has been one of the best decisions I have made, and I only regret not doing it sooner.

Heh...I was never able to get past the boss in Chemical Plant Zone the one time I played this game...Used up all my lives just getting that far, then lost the last one right at the start of the fight. I'm good at 3D Sonic, but bad at 2D Sonic. This video went in many directions! You covered something along these lines in the video, but I feel the need to restate it. I would argue that talent does exist. As I understand it, talent is innate ability while skill is learned ability through study and practice. I have a talent for origami. I've made various complicated origami pieces and it's almost never difficult for me. I'm skilled with tennis. Mom signed me up for tennis lessons in middle school and I was pretty bad at it at first, but I got better. I've never been a huge sports person either... On the subject of winning not being everything, there's a quote I like: "Life isn't about finishing first." IQ and school are good examples of your point. I have a very high IQ and I did really well in school (when I was allowed to handle it my way), but IQ tests and grades in school aren't measures of success. They're measures of how well you perform under very specific circumstances. Both are outdated. I had the same thing that you experienced with algebra and calculus happen to me in school. I was good at most subjects, but math and science were my best ones. I loved both of them. It felt more like working on puzzles than doing work. I ran into a bit of a wall with Calculus because it was so much more difficult to find patterns in the equations. I was working on memorizing derivatives through sheer brute force when Mom suddenly decided that 100s were no longer good enough and started screaming at me every night about how I was at risk of flunking out of school...Most of the time, gifted students tend to crash in seventh grade because that's usually when sheer memorization no longer works. I think that encouraging students to do their own research for projects may be helpful in teaching them good study habits. Giving up dreams to be who the world needs you to be...That's not something that has ever sat well with me. I never really accepted needing to give up something you want to do. Maybe put it on hold if you can't do it right away, but just giving up...I'm too foolish for that. Well, this felt like a disjointed comment! Overall, I do agree that too many people aren't confident enough in themselves and that humans are more capable than they give themselves credit for. Personally, I'm not good at giving people confidence, but that seems to be one of your strengths. One of my greatest strengths is giving people hope, which I do believe the world needs more of. Keep up the good work!

I've been trying to complete a video about The Beginner’s Guide and how, as a video game, it's a work of art for some time now. Its 95% complete and i want it to good. I genuinely think I have somethint interesting to say about it. I want to be a youtuber so damn badly, but im so over worked and stressed with life so often. Still, the feeling to create and write has never gone away in years. And each video i publish gets better and better quality. I squee in the process where i can, because damnit, im ment for more than a 9-5.

Very wise words. I really liked this video. I didn't really feel a calling until earlier this year. I had interests and stuff I wanted to do, and I usually did what I felt like doing when I felt like doing it before my current medication (avolition is a rough side effect), but I didn't feel that PULL to do something until I developed a sudden morbid interest in starting a gaming company in...I think it was February? I have to get off this medication and recover from my stress issues before I can do much of anything, but I've been gathering game ideas in a Microsoft Word document for years now. At first they came to me in dreams, and then I just started idly coming up with ideas. When this interest appeared, I started doing occasional research into running businesses and finances and the such. I figure that even if I can't get it going now, I can at least learn about the process. And even if I don't ever start this business, this will likely be helpful information in the future. I sure do hope I'm able to get it going though... ...Now I want a video about an M&M conspiracy theory. Edit: Oh, and I was absolutely watching this video in bed. It's 2:29 AM right now. Gonna go watch some of your other videos now.

I 100% understand this feeling of being captivated by a calling. I've been through so much sh!t in my life that a "normal job" is most likely not possible long term for me anymore. I have so much I want to tell through art, through content, I wanted be and do so many things but never the things I am doing or going to do. And I've tried. To the best of my (then) abilities, to somehow make it work but I keep on being disheartened so easily. Self inflecting on that, I'd say it comes with all these negative past experiences and lack of self acceptance. The upside of this is, is that I'm (according to the few friends I managed to keep) an incredibly well rounded individual now. I can do just about anything above average, sometimes way above average, sometimes I struggle, like with programming until it clicks with me a year later after I gave up on it and I pick it up again, getting further... Until I drop it again. I always believed I need to grind through one thing and "settle for less". I thought, since I've learned so much about art, music, video games, story writing and finally programming, that I should become a game dev. But I lack the discipline and got way too much hubris to split my work with others. (Although I tried, and once again got a huge negative experience out of that.) I want to become just a guy, giving off older brother/younger dad energy for others, telling them about my life, my struggles, how I coped with them, what worked, what didn't and how to accept who you are. I would love to talk about games also. Gaming got me to ignore my darkest times and probably inhibit worse. People always call me lazy until they see me working on something that I really like. Then they think I'm a workaholic and need to take more breaks. Which, because of a lack of results, quickly results in burnout. (Trying to give it full throttle but not going anywhere = burnout. Both in a car as in life.) So I need a better strategy than "oh I will make this cool indie metal song with a picture and upload it as a video, let youtube do it's thing" because nobody will find that. Also I need to stop chasing fleeting trends like the time I wanted to become a (mostly German) Rapper instead. I gave it a fair shot, I believe. Whenever I go to my friends they always play one of my songs and it appears they truly like it, to the point, where they remember the lyrics better than I do. I'm rambling, nobody is going to read all of that anyways, so here's what I can try today. I will at LEAST set up the new RU-vid account, try out some "branding" options and write a script for my first video shoot. I've heard from Thor (PirateSoftware) that it's sometimes this first step, where you put in just that minute bit of effort that is the biggest step towards making it in the first place, kinda like wanting to work out and getting time to do 1 push up a day. You will always do more.

I don't know if you watch comments in this video (or at all) but i do want to share this experience i had. Basically i have 2 channels, and the one that I'm using to write this comment, is where i started posting what i loved doing. Even tho i wasn't the best, I didn't care because i liked doing it, and i kept going non-stop for 6 years. I sometimes had to get some pauses or like get past my burnouts, but when i could get back at doing it, it felt good! I stopped doing that, because like a couple of months ago, i had this voice in my head that said "you should really make a video guide on a character in a game!" And because it seemed fun, i tried. At the moment, I'm still doing that because i love to edit videos too! And even if, i only got this video recommended now, i highly agree with your idea. We should all try something, even if it doesn't turn out as we thought, because we can always improve on ourselves. This video was great, good job my guy.

This kind of resonates with me. I've been working in a warehouse for 10 years, and it's been that long as I have a wife and 2 kids. I've been wanting to jump into streaming/youtube for a long time but have been putting it off. I would like to do streaming as my job because I want to do something I'm happy doing and don't want to work in a warehouse for the rest of my life. All I've heard in my life is that you need to do something more realistic, I'm kind of sick of listening to those people.

I clicked on this video on a whim but I’m really glad I did as your words were very encouraging. I feel a calling to create art that expresses emotion, something that connects with others. How exactly I’ll go about this, I am not quite so sure. I have a lot of ideas that I need to plan out before they can be shared. However, this video was the push I needed and an incentive to stop telling myself that creating art would be a frivolous endeavor. Today I went out and recorded a short stream. It was scuffed as hell, but my friends showed up and offered support. It was vitalizing and I want to do more. So thank you for this video, it truly is a work of art.

Im gonna post the first part of my finished Visual Novel in this comment section when its done. (Hopefully in 2024) and continue sharing that experience with you all who were lucky enough to have stumbled across this insightful video who have not yet felt that 'calling'. As someone who has zero editing experience. Zero drawing experience, zero voice acting experience, zero artistic cells in my body except the ones that have refused to give me a chance for this long until now. And when all is said done i hope i can be in a better place than i was today. Never go searching for lightning to strike twice in your bottle. Be the beacon or metal rod that attracts electiricty around you so that someone else can be struck with creativty and share that same experience you once felt too. Because i believe that is infinitely more rewarding than your biggest dreams being fuffilled infront of your very eyes. (And if it does happen, strike me twice too!)
