Welcome to my channel! I am a sci-fi and fantasy writer with a soft spot for romance, especially enemies-to-lovers. Join me on my journey of writing a novel and vlogging the entire marathon-esque process. I am planning to release my debut novel, This Cruel Fate, in 2024.
Yes! There are so many distractions now it definitely takes a lot more effort to pull yourself away and focus on work. I keep finding myself picking up my phone when I'm trying to write, it's a work in progress, but we've got this!
I’m glad RU-vid blessed me with your video 🤍 I love your vibe Also; a Dune/Star Wars like story sounds great. I definitely feel you with having deeper tones to your stories. Edit: we’re twinning with the exact same keyboard and colour! Wow lol
This was very insightful, I feel like I've been also going through some burnout and have been kinda mean to myself as well. Rest is super important but yeah it is so hard to find that balance. ❤
Good job for taking care of yourself. The Internet is a lot less urgent than we think it is, so good job for taking time out. It's great to see you back, but it's even better that you're healthy.
Thank you so much! It's so true, it's easy to get caught up in the constant cycle of the internet and trying to stay on online, but it's never worth burning out!
Agree! I feel the pressure and see others doing so much better than me. I've had to put reading/writing aside when I started college, and my writing went downhill. I've also gone through career changes and motherhood, and I'm finally in a place where I can focus on the two again. Audiobooks have been a lifesaver for me, and I finally finished the second draft of my novel.... And I've also observed authors' writings go downhill from producing and producing just to meet the demands of fans/publishers. Definitely take things slow.
Hey Maddi! I rarely comment on your videos but I've been enjoying your content since your world building vlog, I find it super inspiring and use it as a breather between whatever I'm working on. I often stress to finish projects and I can see the shift in quality of work when I do. This applies to more than writing, which you've nuanced by saying art, and I cannot agree more. Thanks for the video
Aww thank you so much!! I'm glad you related to the video! It's sometimes hard to find that balance between staying motivated and working at a good pace, and losing sight of the project in favor of the deadline.
hi maddi (: fellow slow writer here. i think quality wins over quantity every single time. we slow writer girlies are just as valid as those who write faster. we're all on our own writing journeys and that's okay!
The average American has a 7th grade reading level... that hurts me. Greatly. It makes me worried that writing with the fancy vocab I enjoy is going to shrink my readerbase.
I think you should write with whatever vocab you want to! I learn new words from books all the time, and reading is a skill so as people read more and more, their skill in reading will grow. I’ve seen some commenters on booktok saying how they started with CoHo and are now reading Dostoyevsky! Write for you and your readers will come ❤️
Just binge watched alll your videos and I'm so happy I found you, I want to be friends and I would love to see a video on how you edit your novels. You're so right, RU-vid can be pretty overwhelming, I started ny RU-vid Channel this month and I'm curious to see where this goes. I might send you a message on Instagram! I love your videos so much, keep up the good work :)
Great video! I appreciate the reflection on goal-setting and embracing change, both in storytelling and life and I myself have a very hard timmmee with this too ugh! It's such a struggle. I am like you, I work a LOT so it does make it harder to be super committed the way I want to be. It's evident that you're investing in yourself and your craft and thats admirable in an of itself. I'm excited to follow your journey as you continue to grow as a storyteller! 💫
Thank you! This is so sweet omg! I'm so glad it resonated with you because finding that balance can be such a struggle when you're trying to invest in yourself creatively, but also need to work, and are also trying to establish other healthy habits in your life. I'm so thankful that you're on this journey with me! ✨
isaiah 48:3 i foretold the former things long ago, my mouht annouced them and i made them known then suddenly i acted and they came to pass keep working on your writing craft but also repeat thoughts for hours i am one of the bestselling authors of all time with 1 billion books sold repeat thoughts for hours 12/9/2023
I highly recommend "Street Candles" by David Collins-Rivera. Really unique sci fi, and a powerfully emotional story about political instability and war. Haunted me for weeks. (don't be fooled by the truly lackluster cover art)
ooooh David Collins-Rivera also was the inspiration for Payload, right? Which I swear I have not forgotten about and I'll get you all my final thought about the final part soon. That sounds like something that is right up my ally! Thanks for the recommendation! 😃
Literally took me watching your review to realize I had confused Fall of Ruin and Wrath with JLAs other book Rage and Ruin. I will never be on her side for her naming; characters, series, places, or books. It is the most confusing thing to introduce people to her.
oooh I haven't heard of Rage and Ruin I'll have to look that one up. I read the FBAA series and I think I read the first three books within two weeks they were so interesting to me. Also I agree her naming is something else sometimes 🤣
Extraordinary people do ordinary things for an extraordinary period of time I am watching Jessica Brody writing mastery academy everyday I watch a few courses If I keep watching for 15 years maybe I can be an extraordinary novelist with new York times bestsellers
I love, love, love that quote because it's so true. It reminds me of the quote, "the published author is the amatuer who didn't quit" or something along those lines. All you have to do is just keep working a little bit, every day. ❤️
I love hearing your thought process behind your work. Also, TIL that "line edit" is a writing term. It's great to hear the official terminology for these processes.
The amount of new terms and phrases I've learned over the past few years when it comes to writing is crazy haha it's always nice to have a name for what you're doing.
I like the idea on modern capitalism in relation to vampire lore! Very unique perspective and I look forward to seeing it come to life. I don't typically like vampire stuff but this idea sounds very interesting! And I wish I could use 'Notion' but Scrivener is my go to for now.
I just finished your video and I am genuinely so impressed with your perseverance and positivity despite not hitting that 6000-word goal. This video is so inspiring, it's making me want to try the 12-hour challenge for myself (even though I can hardly write 3 hours a day LOL). I understand the exhaustion and dips in productivity - it's a gentle reminder that it's human to need breaks. Keep up the amazing work, can't wait to see more of your writing journey!
Aww I'm so glad that it was inspiring and I think you should totally give the challenge a shot! On days I'm not really counting and tracking how much I write I don't think I ever hit that 3 hour mark either! I think doing things like this are always a good way to take stock of how you're pushing yourself too hard, or finding areas you can push yourself a little more! <3
I think it definitely makes sense to let yourself be distracted from TCF for a while. Some healthy separation can give you new perspective on the story, and as you say, working on something else and maybe simpler in scope will help build your portfolio.
A reset is important in general, and I think it helps with those things you're working on but have gotten stuck on. When I'm having problems with a section of something I' m writing, I find myself compulsively taking A LOT of afternoon walks to clear my mind and gather my thoughts.
I think this is a great challenge for any area of creativity. All of us could use this direct focus once in and while. Also, I love how your cat is in the same space for at least 3 hours.
Great advice. I think it's really easy to get lost in a chapter. Finding the balance between character development and pointless banter is tough. Constantly asking yourself about the point of the chapter is so important!
