Since Jeff Rosenstock (rightfully) showed up here a few times as well I thought I'd mention that the first third of Worry. is PHENOMENAL, and among his best work ever, but after that it's way more hit and miss. For me both Hellmode and No Dream are more consistent throughout so I prefer them as albums.
that's very fair. i think jeff's catalog is so much of the same while also being vastly diverse enough that everyone can have their own favorites without there ever truly being a "definitive" best album. though, i relistened to some BTMI last night for an upcoming reranked and that stuff hits too!
You should put your top 5 at the beginning or end of the video for a frame of reference, and then let us rank them in the comments so you/we could participate in the re-rankings too !
Okay, also, if you want to talk about an extremely excellent record that I doubt I will ever listen to again because it's just GUTTING check out Hospice by The Antlers. Ugh; I'm feeling sad just thinking about it... Best Ween album is La Cucaracha. Object is the song I am the most uncomfortable loving by anyone ever... YT ate my comment last week re: Ye, but yes; that dude is the worst. Can't listen to his music any longer (even though I once thought MBDTF was a masterpiece).
oh shit i think i listened to that antlers record years ago but it never clicked. i might need to revisit it next time im feeling down in the dumps. i fear my ween discog relisten is coming closer than id like... but so be it! and i still like so much of ye's music, but i seriously don't think ive listened to him in years
Haha, thanks man; really appreciate your thoughts! I'm actually stoked we can have such different tastes and still find so much common ground in music for general discussion. I think a lot of my tops (probably like most folks) are mostly about 'time and place' where I got into them and both Cake and Bad Region were high school favorites for me, so they'll never be out of my all time favorites. Still loving this feature. Also, I want to STRONGLY recommend/request Protomartyr for a For You're Interested In. I've been somewhat luke warm on their studio output but saw them open for IDLES and they SLAYED!!!!
of course!! i mean it, you always have the best comments so thank you so much for that. and yea i think that’s the beauty of this show! just because we may have a difference of opinion on these records doesn’t mean our tastes aren’t still compatible, and unfortunately i think there’s a large chunk of people on the internet who forget about that (or dismiss it completely). funny enough, i have a word document with a bunch of bands that i’ve thought to cover over the years and protomartyr is one of them! i’ll have to go back to their catalog cause it’s been a little while. thanks for the rec!
thanks! it's always nice to get a positive comment from a huge fan of the band that i covered. i'll absolutely be doing some more emo bands in the future!
@@ForeverSpinning excited to hear what you have to say! you earned an instant sub when i saw a turnover album in your into. awesome videos man, i can't wait for your channel to blow up 🫶
Love the new format, it's an interesting look at what the audience is listening to and how you see it from your perspective. Loved your talk on my list, and you are right about us Gorillaz fanns we are pretty out there lol Speaking of was happy to see Plastic Beach!
1. Jeff Buckley - Grace 2. The Cure - Disintegration 3. Death Cab For Cutie - We Have The Facts and We're Voting Yes 4. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream 5. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
This is an awesome idea! I’ll have to give you a follow on Musicboard too. My favorite albums are: Melodrama - Lorde The Stranger - Billy Joel 21 - Adele TPAB - Kendrick Lamar Emotion - Carly Rae Jepsen (Weirdly pop-heavy, but that’s what I grew up on)
My top 5 is 1. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars - David Bowie 2. TPAB 3. The Low End Theory - A Tribe Called Quest 4. Helplessness Blues - Fleet Foxes 5. Undun - The Roots
My list has a few caveats to it so bear with me lol 1. Daughters - You Won’t Get What You Want (even though I don’t listen to it anymore) 2. Daft Punk - Discovery 3. Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked at Me 4. Midori - Hello Everyone. Nice To Meet You. We Are Midori 5. C418 - Minecraft - Volume Alpha Volume Alpha is a soundtrack, so if we’re being strict about what counts as an album then I’d replace it with Ants From Up There by BC, NR. If we’re not separating art from artist then I’d also take out the Daughters album, put For Long Tomorrow by toe at 5 and move everything else up.
great list and great explanations. i’m going to leave the list as is because it seems as tho these top 5 are how you really feel! respect on liking an album despite knowing and recognizing how shitty alexis is… i think that’s important for all music enjoyers. i’ll get deeper into my take when i cover your list… thanks!
Hope I get picked, even thought my taste is pretty different. Top 5 is brutal btw, so here's my top 10 in order: 1 - Bomb the music industry - Vacation 2 - Les Vulgaires machins - Aimer le mal 3 - Fugazi - In On The Kill Taker 4 - Ramshackle Glory - Live The Dream 5 - Harmonium - Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison 6 - Red - King Crimson 7 - Iron Chic - Not Like This 8 - Les Cowboys Fringants - La Grande Messe 9 - Meat Wave - The Incessant 10 - No Means No - Small Parts Isolated And destroy
Super interesting idea. Top 5 is honestly tough to do, but I'd say: 1) Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed; 2) Jeff Rosenstock - No Dream; 3) Cake - Fashion Nugget; 4) Run the Jewels - Run the Jewels 3; 5) Bad Religion - Stranger Than Fiction. There are already dozens of albums I'm angry aren't on that list (haha); so have fun with it...
The Monitor is exceptional (as is Hellmode and The Black Parade), so that list from Ape Shit was probably closest to my list overall. Love, love, love Weezer's blue album as well. Also fuck Ye for embracing such disgusting bigotry; piece of shit. Haha, also with you terms of King Gizzard; never clicked with me the way it does for other people. Argh; how is Joy As An Act Of Resistance not on my list!!!
