...there was no door warning light on the bridge to indicate open or closed....a fatal design error. Maybe because nothing untoward happened in the lifetime of the ship, complacency set in and the doors were 'left to someone else'.

I was 7 when this happened and can remember sitting at the breakfast table watching the news, and then seeing it in the papers. I believe that there was a charity record released in aid of the victims families, including a young girl who lost both parents, I think it was called ‘a kiss through glass’
No telling how much damage the polystyrene did to the natural environment. The salvage was clearly done conscientiously but they just didn’t think about the long-term ramifications of the wonder materials of the age.
