It’s while the camera is in standby… and there’s no clear way of telling if you’ve set it to standby or off. Actually, the bug seems simple and simply fixed. Leica need to save the file name counter in long-term memory when entering standby, so it won’t be reset to an earlier number if power is lost.
I honestly do not know! I have to admit being in a hurry. I have done that kind of stuff myself, but I know it is not good on electronics regardless of the situation.
@@TheJalbertstudios that's great, I had monochrome leica before 1 year ago, it's not for me, option to have both are great than switching color and monochrome.
@@junichinomura4810 that’s exactly what I am afraid of! I think if I could pick one up relatively reasonable and that’s probably a joke I would do it for sure!
Truthfully, I ended up selling it. Do I regret that, yes I do. I guess the one that I had had some issues with it and I really didn’t know but I may eventually pick up another one! The new lenses paired with that camera really was nice.
I use the X2D, M11, SL2 and Q2. Flawless images all four. Leica user for 63 years. Totally satisfied and have not experienced the issues complained about. The digital file is what I want, and Leica lenses get me there. The XCD lenses are amazing too.
Well, I am late to the game! I got into Laika when my brother passed away, we used to tease him all the time because it took him forever to take a picture lol he had the M8 and the M9 and the M9 had a lot of issues with it The chip was bad and like a said, it could not be fixed. So I ended up buying an M10 R. And that got me into the game.
Love the color and b/w images from the SL3. I was even surprised as I saw someone I know in the slide-show. Looking for more from the SL3 in the future.
@@TheJalbertstudios you said people shouldn’t complain about this camera or not buy it because not everyone loses photos on it. 😂 im not wasting time listening to it again. You’re opinion isn’t as important as you think it is.
first thing right of the bet I gave thumb down . cause name was deceiving . notwithstanding whilst paying attention - couldn't agree more with the guy. btw huge thank you for bringing up x2d issue . I own Leicas top brass , before ive had all there is top tier of other brands. I am sick of hearing of H real like colors meanwhile suffering with shittty leica magenta and cool cast that make images without working on WB suck . ive heard before about H H2s quality issue and awful support . although they do their best to keep it under rug . you caught me the very last moment before plunging into x2d100 with of course 2their best lenses . now I am assured to avoid H . all and all thank you - best of luck ! @georges_angeles
I've owned many Leica's over the years from film to digital starting with the M9, M9 monochrome, SL, SL2, M10 and loved all of them. No camera is perfect although the M10 is damn near perfect which is why I still own mine. The only 2 I've ever just hated and returned were the M type 240 and the SL3. The SL3 just had too many issues to warrant the price some of which were serious downgrades from the previous model including the overall built quality and the ibis which is tragically bad. I returned mine and got an sl2-s since I had sold my SL2 to buy the SL3 and then ended up returning it. I will say the SL2-S for me thus far has been a better camera than the SL3 which is crazy to me...even the color science is better to my eye. People were loving the SL3 upon its announcement they sold out quickly I had to wait months for mine and I ordered it day 1...people got it in their hands and were simply disappointed. If it was a great camera that wouldn't be the case.
All due respect, even if it were a handful of cases, which I truly believe it is more than that, a $7000 camera deleting files is simply unacceptable. I love the camera, and have been a long time Leica user and specifically an SL iuser. I had the deletion of images bug happen to me on May 6, meaning TWO MONTHS ago for a project that ended up costing me not only a bad reputation with a very important client, but also cost thousands of dollars in production costs. Downplaying this issue is irresponsible and Leica needs to amend the problem immediately.
That sucks. It’s like some of the Leica fanboys will make any excuses for Leica. Some of them would probably buy a leica even if you had to visualize the pictures to instead of getting them. To lose pictures is an unforgivable mistake by Leica.
I was shocked when I saw this was an issue as had just received my SL3 and have had no issues, but it appears to only happen when the camera is left on, is that correct.? If so, clearly a bad habit/laziness of the user to do that, have always been thought to turn off any electrical item with batteries before changing as could cause a short circuit etc….thus it has ever been. Similar issue with shutting down aero engines in a certain sequence before restarting, there is a process which you should follow. If you take the risk, you may have to pay the price. Sorry you lost your work sir.k
@@kenmonahan9924 wow. You are blaming the user! This shouldn’t happen no matter what! You are exactly what I’m referring to. A Leica fanboy who will make any excuse for a bad company. You should be able to leave your camera on as long as you want without picture loss. What of you are shooting a wedding. Ridiculous comment!
Respectfully, even though you haven’t experienced that problem others have. What is worse is that Leica knew about the problem beforehand and didn’t notify anyone until after videos started being made. That is unacceptable from Leica. I’m saying this as a former owner of an SL3 (which had a host of other issues not just the erasing of files) a current owner of a SL2, SL2S reporter, Q2, Q2M and an M11P. I love Leica but I can also be critical of the company and hold them to a high standard, a standard which they have themselves set.
@@TheJalbertstudios absolutely. I agree with most of what you’re saying, but I, again respectfully, would argue if we had to turn back time and go through 2020 once more, would we want to A) prevent said pandemic or B) wait till it’s a full blown pandemic before we blow the horns? I am a huge fan of Leica, huge, dare I say fanboy, but it’s my love that is going to make me be critical of items that feel like missed and step backs compared to their previous cameras.
If you are a Canon shooter you hate Nikon. If you shoot Nikon You hate Canon. You shoot Fuji you hate Sony. You shoot Sony you hate everyone. So easy to bash. learn your camera and what it can do. Takes more than 2 weeks to learn a new camera.Learn your camera shoot what works and who cares if I prefer my Leica cameras
It all boils down to the photographer. People blame gear, they think if they get this new gear they will be better. I have shot with all of them and they all are good in their own ways. I have taken pics with my iphone that paid for the phone 2 times over. The best camera you have is the one that's on you.
Thanks for making this! Those comments and videos …I’m thinking of one in specific with a hog “warning” thumbnail. He didn’t even experience the issue himself… Very well said …great video!
Nice shots of the car show. The colour rendering from that sensor is phenomenal.. I previously used Canon and Nikon for 20 + years and both are exceptional companies with great Tech and Lenses, but for me and my eye, the Leica APO lenses and SL2/SL3/Q2/Q3 Quartet offer some of the sharpest and most rewarding shots I have seen. Good job Joe.
Nice video from the heart Joe. First one of yours I've seen as a current Q2 and SL2-S owner in Australia. I reached a similar milestone and am weighing up the SL3 or maybe an SL3-S (?), not to replace my SL2-S, which I love, but for the larger sensor, phase detect AF and the flip screen. Look forward to the shots from the car show and thanks again for sharing..
I have had the SL3 since day one. I kept my SL2 as a backup. So far the SL2 is gathering dust. I have had no issues with the SL3. The high ISO is amazing and 2-3 stops better than the SL2-S which I found to be not that great. I have no stabilization problems with the camera, about a stop less than the SL2. I make prints up to 40"x60" and the sensor with the SLAPO lenses are amazing. I have not had the issue of losing images from changing the battery. I have heard this can be a problem and Leica is working on this in the new firmware. The battery life is far better than the SL2. I can shoot all day easily with 1 battery. I was really surprised how much cleaner the new sensor is in resolution. Did not think 47 to 60 would make the much difference. The color science is fantastic. I prefer it over the M11. Like all new cameras, they take time to understand how to best to use them. Will never have an accurate review from someone who walked around with it for a day. I make adjustments to my settings over time and have the functions set up to how I create. Everyone may have the settings slightly different to what they do. Flip out screen not a big deal for myself. I still find myself laying down on the ground to compose in the viewfinder. Just my nature I guess, never really use a screen to compose with.
you are going to have such a great time with it :D keep an eye out for firmware updates tho, there is a serious issue that might overwrite an image on your memory card. i'm sure leica is pushing for that update asap =) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MSMNFAtkcSo.html
It is a great camera. I have had the 2 previous models and I really think the SL3 is a serious step up compared to the SL2 in always every aspect. You are going to love it. Have fun!
Congratulations on the SL3. I am sure it will serve you very well into the future. I'm still learning my Q3 and I believe it meshes well with my D780 as an amature fun clicker combo. Cheers...
@@TheJalbertstudios Let me know when you do mate. Well at the moment I'm shooting mostly M and I'll probably get some Leica glass when the time is right. The SL3 and even the SL2 is on the list as I have a project in mind that needs proper weather sealing! :)
@@TheJalbertstudios time will be the ultimate judge…but this camera definitely doesn’t get the credit it deserves. Congrats and enjoy! Totally agree with the AWB. Absolutely incredible in situations that were a nightmare to color correct with other cameras.
I got the sl3 and from day 1 I was disappointed in the performance. Specifically the stabilization and ISO performance was really lacking compared to my 4 year old Nikon z7ii which seemed insane to me. Thankfully they allowed me to return it to the Leica store without any issues and no fee as I've bought many cameras from them over the years. A few days later I purchased and SL2-S and it solved both of the main issues I had with the SL3 for at a fraction of the cost. The other things that bothered me about the sl3 is the plasticy feeling body compared to the other Leica bodies I've owned...it felt more like my Nikon gear and for that price it's hard to justify. Also this new on off button is terrible as I would try to turn the camera off and it would go into sleep mode slowly draining the battery...I'm sure this is something I would've figured out after some use but it annoyed me. Things I loved about the sl3 was the tilt screen as it allowed me to get shots more comfortably and the other is the super quick file transfer using the fotos app its really the fastest I've ever seen a 80mb raw in a second is insane. All in all though wasn't worth the $7k in my opinion which bums me out to saw I was super hyped to finally have a good all around Leica. Tbh I'm much happier with the SL2-S even putting price aside I don't have to fight with the camera to get the shots I want...the IBIS in the sl3 is insanely lacking and with a BSI sensor I expected to be able to shoot to ISO 3200 without an issue but heck even 1600 was bad for my macro work.
The people who are complaining about the autofocus haven’t bothered to dig into the menu system. Is it for NFL? Probably not. But I have no problem catching my dogs running on the beach or in the water. The color OOC is awesome. Just get it!
I have had the SL3 since March…I have started to put more videos because I have not had much luck finding non-influencers as well. I live in Southern California and I love the camera. I previously owned an SL2-S and loved the colors and image quality. I just couldn’t justify keeping it based on the work I do and the way I like to shoot. The auto focus on the SL3, fast processor, slightly smaller body, flip screen and upgraded sensor is amazing.
Short & Long answer (No) I’m 62 years old and had Leica cameras in the past 40 years and we all are so excited when a newer and better version comes out. I bought into thinking Wow.. I have to have it.. And decided after those new purchases.. It was nice to have but it wasn’t necessary.. My advice.. We all need to fix our beliefs in being satisfied with what we have first… And condition ourselves with that so when the marketing experts says It’s the latest and greatest think that look what you’ve missing out on by not buying this updated edition camera.. Once you train yourself to be satisfied in having something that’s does 80-90% of the newest model You will have been rewarded (Satisfied ) in beating the hype that goes with every new model each company makes.. Say No to the hype and say yourself Yes in saving $$$ Blessings Greg
As a former SL3 owner it's a camera that's 5 years too late, and yet still needs another year before it's ready. Really, most of its issues (of which there are plenty) are because of the processor. I suspect it's old and far too underpowered for what it needs to do. It simply can't keep up. Unless you are shooting just photos in a studio then it would be great at that. The AF is not that much better than the SL2/S. The box that finds the face (when using Face detect AF) is far faster and stickier, but it doesn't actually mean that what you're seeing is in focus. The rolling shutter is awful. Electronic shutter is almost unusable for photos and the rolling shutter effect in video is the worst I've personally used. The build quality albeit better than Sony, canon, fuji etc.. feels like a step back compared to the SL2/S Its menu for video is a jumbled mess. The rest of the menu is great. The iso dial gets bumped way too easy. Part of the build quality issues for me is that the dials do not feel nearly as good as the previous generation. Having CFexpress Type B is awesome. Image quality is the best I've personally used. It's incredible. (it's why I got an M11P when I returned it) Battery life is bad. This camera sucks through batteries, and it also overheated on me while taking just photos last week in 80 degree weather. The power on/off switch is a huge miss for me - it's a crap shoot whether or not the camera just goes into sleep mode or actually turns off, and so when you need it to wake for a quick shot, there were many I missed because of it. The 2 copies (my first I sent into repairs in NJ and the 2nd was a loaner) Both had EVF and LCD issues. When I'd magnify to focus it was a pixilated blurry mess. I've talked to a few others that also have this problem. If you love the Fotos app and downloading photos from your camera using it, you'll love the SL3. The speed is insane. Takes less than a second to download a 90MB photo. Gigs worth of photos in 10-20 seconds. I loved it. Those are my thoughts from using it a Ton over the last two months.
@@TheJalbertstudios I mean if you haven’t tried it, try it. Insane image, but for the work I do, despite how Leica marketed this camera it ended up not working for me
The thing is I have an SL2 and I have a Q3 and I have two Nikon Z9’s I know the resolution is higher on that camera than the one I have but it’s not always about the resolution so I just may hold off on it because not many people will let you buy it and return it without paying a 10% or 15% restock fee
I suggest renting it. I have a feeling it is not worth the upgrade. Considering the price, they did cut a lot of corners IMO. Leica here in the UK does offer a free test drive, maybe they offer something similar in the US?
hello! check out Jonathan Slack's review of the SL3, it seems he shared some of your concerns and he's open about it in the post =) i'm an SL shooter myself and i opted out of the SL2 since the ISO performance was the same as the SL but the colors were a slight downgrade. was initially thinking of passing out on the SL3 aswell, but it seems like leica really did a great job with this one =) even tho i kinda have mixed feelings about the sensor being (what i believe) of sony origin. imo, the only manufacturer that has proven to be able to tame the sony sensors properly is Nikon (not even sony themselves). hopefully Leica were up to the challenge tho =)
More research is needed to sort out the advantages of the SL3 over the SL2 in my mind. Talking to the Leica store sounds like a good place to start the discovery and better understand the issues. Good Luck...
I believe Leica and Hasselblad have the best color science. I have been using my Sl2 from the day it was released and It is now my back up to my SL3. The SL3 is a much bigger upgrade than I thought it would be. The auto focus is faster, along with so many minor upgrades that really make it so much more. The color is even better than the SL2. I use my S120Macro on the Sl system and the rendering for people is just amazing. The S lenses on the SL are incredible. A different feel than the SL APO lenses. The S lenses are slow to focus and I generally manual focus them.
