I wish Collins would show some Fire for Iba being a lousy coach in these '72 Games. Iba might have been good in the 1950's coaching basketball- But in 1972 this guy was a joke. Slowdown Basketball vs the Russians. When Henderson and McMillen and Bantom said " The hell with this Slowdown ball - we only have a few minutes to win this game. Lets push the ball and pressure Defense to WIN this Game. Accepting a Silver Medal for the '72 Games is a BAD CHOICE. Tell The Olympic Committe to STICK those Silvers
Those first seconds of pretentious followed by down to earth coolness. How about we just keep it down to earth cool from beginning to end. Make it something completely pleasant not partially. All these commercial with girls now doing the exact same thing. Get over yourselves.
This is why no one respects FIBA basketball. It's a joke. The style of play is only slightly more entertaining than the WNBA, the officials are more like political agents than sports referees, and the "matches" are as short as high-school games. Really, 40-minute games and zone defenses are for children's games, not pro-level basketball. And let's not forget that ridiculous trapezoidal lane they used to paint on their courts.
I saw the demolition of the Spectrum. It was the absolute definition of horror show. People were cheering when they should have been crying, and they were playing/singing "God Bless America" when they should have been singing "Amazing Grace". I was mortified.
Still praying for Leonard Weaver hope I can meet him someday but I’m from Canada🇨🇦 had the same exact injury in my left leg severed my perineal nerve and still paralyzed
First, the hard foul on Collins sd have been flagrant, a football move Second, key great free throws under pressure by Collins Third, the most superb play was the first inbounds toss, that ball amazingly almost went in, was stupendous Russian shot Fourth, USA on first inbounds plays D correctly and places man in front of inbounder Fifth, USA blows it, on second inbounds no one on the inbounder! Ugh. Stupid mistake by USA. Sixth, a superb second inbounds, perfect, long pass. Seventh, the decider to put time back on the clock was not a Soviet, a Brit he was Eight, on appeal it was not three soviets denying appeal, it was 2, joined by one westerner. That second inbounds pass cd never have been made if USA had defended against the inbounder. A mistake USA cannot acknowledge Did the refs get it rt? I don’t know. I think for first inbounds probably yes, for second inbounds probably no. But am not sure. For the soviets this was a win akin to our hockey win against them lake placid
As a Giants fan this game was infuriating that eagles team was so fast with Vick and Mccoy Matt Dodge is selling Dodges right now he could've took a knee but you could not kick it to DJ
My Dad had a hard time calming me down, I was cursing Desean Jackson out with a whole bunch of F Bombs, and felt insulted the way he rubbed it in our face. If I had caught that ball in the stands I would've chucked it back at the Eagles players. I also asked why was it so hard to beat the Eagles. But the pain went away when we won another Super Bowl!
Hmm; a statue for a fictional character, "Rocky", outside the arena; was there one for Wilt Chamberlain, I'm wondering ? Wilt was only a real-life Philly native that saved the NBA, a mega-star that took a fledgling Syracuse castoff (the 76ers), and carried them to becoming a perennial NBA contender, and a championship-winning, national *sensation* (and, his marquee name was no doubt a selling point in the Spectrum deal). Pity.
Wilt Chamberlain and the Sixers had nothing to do with the Spectrum outside of being a tenant. Ed Snider the Flyers owner is the reason the sixers ever had a home after the Civic center
@@pinebarrenpatriot8289 Really ? Wilt Chamberlain was an international sen$ation and made the retread Syracuse Nats ( ! ) an instant, yearly NBA title contender; in so doing, no doubt fattened your friend Ed Snider's coffers. Not long after Chamberlain left for LA, the Sixers slid into the abyss, as exemplified by the 1972-73 Sixers, and remained there until Doc resurrected them back into the NBA big-time. After Wilt, and before Doc, there was no Sixer$ Nation.
@@nycsongman9758 did you bother watching any of this video? Ed Snider was the driving force behind the Spectrum being built after he bought the Flyers. Sixers were playing at the civic center and were just a tenant. Snider was the CEO of Comcast spectators who owned the Spectrum. Where do you get your information from because it's not true.
There is a statue of Wilt Chamberlain right outside of Wells Fargo Center-it faces towards the Linc and the corner of 11th Street. It was installed in 2004 though, after the Sixers had already moved out of the Spectrum, but still. After all, it would be impossible not to memorialize not just one of the franchise's greatest players, but one of the NBA's all-time greats.
The Rocky statue was only there to begin with because both the Flyers and Sixers were consistently competing in their respective league finals during the time that the statue was made for Rocky III. Ed Snider saw the Rocky Balboa character as a symbol that embodied the character of the city, so he kinda/sorta made Rocky an unofficial mascot for the teams that played in his building. He was able to convince the Art Museum people to "lend" him the statue which he put right in front of the main doors facing Pattison and The Vet. Well, like MANY of Mr. Snider's ideas, the fans embraced it so much that the Art Museum people told him to keep it because more people were going there to see it than ever came to see it at the Art Museum. So, it stayed... until the building was torn down. So, you ask why wasn't Rocky moved to the Wells Fargo Center? Well, just prior to the grand opening of the Wells Fargo Center in 1996, Ed Snider sold his majority stake in Spectacor which encompassed both the Spectrum and new building as well as the Flyers franchise, and the PRISM cable network to Comcast, who also purchased the 76ers from Harold Katz in a separate deal during the acquisition. While Ed Snider still held a 25% stake and was kept on as Chairman of the new Comcast Spectacor, those above him didn't want Rocky. So they shipped his bronze ass back to the Art Museum. As far as why there was no Wilt statue outside the Spectrum, well... there were only 4 statues outside the Spectrum: Kate Smith, Gary Dornhoefer, Dr. J., & Rocky. The exclusion of Wilt actually makes sense: he only played one season at the Spectrum. One season at an arena doesn't warrant a statue, regardless of how great your entire career was. Bobby Clarke played his entire 16-year NHL career in the Spectrum and won 2 Stanley Cups. There's no statue of him. Billy Cunningham won NBA titles with the Sixers as both player and coach and is in the HoF. No statue for him either. I can go on and on, but you get the idea. All that aside, there is a statue of Wilt outside the Wells Fargo Center, an arena campus that was actually designed with areas in which to erect statues/monuments.
The Eagles may only have one Super Bowl, but they never quit. They never give up. They fight with everything until the end no matter what. They have a rich history and are one of the greatest franchises of all time.
