I feel like people usually hate doing self portraits thinking they have to draw themselves exactly. Instead try documenting different characteristics of yourself in different materials and colors as a background, then loosely paint your face on it. It doesn’t have to be perfect just try to capture the rough shape of your features. I had a lot of fun putting this together, I hope you try it out and make your own abstract self portrait 😊
“Everything that we see in our daily lives is more or less distorted by acquired habits and this is perhaps more evident in an age like ours when cinema posters and magazines present us every day with a flood of ready-made images which are to the eye what prejudices are to the mind. The effort to see things without distortion demands a kind of courage; and this courage is essential to the artist, who has to look at everything as though he were seeing it for the first time.” - Henri Matisse
I think I’ll try it but I’m going to try blind folded so that I don’t see one tiny thing I think is a mistake and over correct it ( that’s a huge problem with me in art)
I love the idea of blind folding yourself! Sometimes I do things with my eyes closed and it does feel very free-and fun to see what you create! Let me know how it goes!
I love this exercise as a warm up or when I’m feeling stuck. This is also one of my favorite songs-I’d love for you to listen to it and see what you paint / draw / etc.! 🎶: Manchester by Kishi Bashi
@@SAYLOR0XW It’s super fun! I know you mentioned perfectionism (I can relate!) before and I feel like sometimes abstract art can be so freeing and help you enjoy the process and not worry so much about it being perfect-the imperfections end up making it unique!
Keeping a sketchbook has helped my creative practice so much! It’s a place to explore, try new things, and have fun with art! If you’ve been thinking about getting one, I encourage you to go for it and see how it supports your art and creativity! 😊📒🎨
