this channel is all about Texas off-roading in my 2000 Kia Sportage 4x4 on 35" tires with 5.38 diff gears, welded rear, Torsen LSD front and custom lift. it's also about some overlanding, camping, family trips and some of my other hobbies, like filmmaking and music.
@@starion871 yes, it's automatic. It's not good in the mountains or long highway hills, traffic behind me gets mad, but it's fine for rock crawling and slow off-road. It's fine on the surface streets. I have the Picorp gears too.
@@maestriKo365 not much. I have the Picorp gears, so 5.38 differentials. I have a k&n cone filter. I removed the 2nd car and I have 2.25" exhaust. It all helps a little bit when the AC is on, but you can feel it when the AC is off. I have the wildcat headers too, but I haven't put it on yet. That should help more. Someday maybe I'll do a little supercharger, but I need to do some maintenance first.
Love these colors! Did you tweak them at all in the edit? It reminds me of IR Chrome a bit, though which a much deeper sky and more red in the foliage. I'll have to try the 80A sometime.
@@spectrazone only in camera as described in the video. I did no color correction after transferring to my PC. I had the kolari vision ir chrome filter and sold it. It was too too stark red and blue with not much in between.
Go to the Facebook page "micro monsters" and ask about lift kits. There's still a kit available from UpYourKia, but I don't remember who is selling them at this point. However, I recommend not getting a kit. I recommend getting individual parts that make more sense. The issue is the front lift springs aren't being made anymore. But there are custom coil makers in the US.
Yes. Since installing the Aisin hubs and checking the spindle bearings and wheel bearings often, I have had no breakages. The one thing I found that destroys the cv's most easily is worn out spindle bearings. Especially with Warn hubs or other hubs that are cast metal. The spindle bearings wear out, allowing the stub shaft to wobble and tear up the hub internals, which causes the hub to engage and disengage randomly, slamming the CV rotation and eventually breaking it. The high angle is only really a problem if you have a lot of wheel speed and then touch down on a rock or something, especially at a high steering angle. Done that before.
Super! Für mich ist der Sportage einer der meist unterschätzen Wagen der Welt. 👍 Great! For me, the Sportage is one of the most underrated cars in the world.
Hello my name is Nick I also have this exact kia sportage I'm hoping to find some decent Bolt on stuff that would still leave some decant flex and allow me to use a bigger wheel or tire... I haven't had a lot of luck online... currently it's bone stock... I see horses heavily modified... I would really appreciate a suggestion if you know any good bolt on kits
There are none. Check the Facebook group MicroMonsters. There may be a partial kit from whoever is currently making the UpYourKia kit, and a company in Korea called Picorp makes and sells longer front strut forks. King springs in Australia used to make taller springs, but I'm pretty sure they're discontinued, like everything else. But there's hope! Coilsprings.com makes custom springs and local fabrication shops would probably love to work on a Sportage. Or you could learn to weld/fabricate and build it yourself. That's how MOST of us do it. Sorry no easy bolt ons!
it runs ok with the a/c off, not awesome, it still struggles on hills even without the a/c on, but with the a/c on, sometimes, i think it's not gonna make it on the highway!
this is my old sportage, i no longer have it. it had a front axle from a 1978 jeep cherokee and a rear axle from a 1987 jeep wagoneer. yes stock motor and auto transmission and stock transfer case. i made driveshafts for the front and rear to match the axles and the kia transfer case.
The mistake was lowering the diff in the first place. After welding the broken pieces back onto the frame, I mounted it back into it's factory position. Yes, the CV axles are strained, but I have to live with it
Let me be more clear on the mistake - not only should I not have lowered the diff, but the mount on the cross member should have been a solid stationary mount instead of a shackle type mount. It allowed too much movement which is what broke the frame mount. And one more thing - the reason all of this occured is because of the amount of lift and down travel I have. It droops so far that it pushes the CV axles inwards to the point of collapsing entirely and pushing on the diff. When the diff is lower, the CV axles collapse sooner in the suspension travel. That's what caused all the pushing and pulling on the diff and broke the mount.
I have 5.5" of suspension lift in front and 1.5" body lift. My springs are 2.5" discontinued Eibach springs. Plus the Picorp extended forks, PLUS two 3/16" plates on top of the strut assembly. I have not yet moved any of the suspension arms, but that would be the next evolution. In the rear I have coilsprings from a Ford Aerostar van, 1994 I think, plus I extended the upper mount on the axle by about 3" up and 3" back, plus I extended the frame side panhard rod mount down about 5", and extended the upper link about 3-4" and the lowers about half an inch. That's pretty much everything.
that's a very open ended question... which spacers? just front? front and rear? etc. just front? yes, there are no additional parts needed, but i don't ever really recommend spacer lifts up front because the strut will then contact the cv boot and eventually tear it up. i prefer the extended forks from picorp and taller springs. or if you can find someone to make an internal spacer to go in the strut assembly with the spring, that could work too.
No not at all, but we were down about 5 miles and on a less popular weekend, people were spaced out pretty far. We HAVE been all the way down to the end and plan to camp there next time. Check out our other PINS video.
good afternoon, beautiful images, I saw that you loop on roads, I also saw that you blocked the two differences, was it good to make a curca? How fast can you walk safely?
Unfortunately I don't remember the OD on the bungs, but with just a little bit of sanding, they fit inside the factory link tubes. Then the tubes are sleeved with an extra .120 wall tube. The heims are 3/4" shank.
Oh and I found the website to the extended forks and contacted him the guy is selling the forks again while in demand.. selling for 150 plus shipping.. I'm ordering mine next week.. Thanks for the help..
@@ednew8254 uh, website? We have just been using email... Thanks for your effort to connect your friend to us. Please refer to below our two e-mail as you using for your friend. picorp@daum.net picorp@naver.com
@@ednew8254 no, as far as I know, there's no replacement. BUT, I did install the 5.38:1 diff gears from Picorp, so it at least gets me closer to correct speed and rpms, but still about 10-11% under with the 35's. At 60 on the speedo, my GPS ap tells me I'm at 66.
@@KiaDave nice I'll look into it I'm wanting to go with 32 so if available i might go with 456..I'll look up the website and see what is available.thanks.im very interested in the extended struts for the front very nice mod . hopefully there still available..
hello! 32 inch or 33 inch wheels? I didn’t quite understand what kind of LSD is in the front gearbox, can you please elaborate? Thank you!) cool device!) I go to sportage myself)
@@KiaDave do you have petrol or diesel? How is acceleration on 35 wheels on the highway? tell me from which car the lock on the front axle? how does blocking work?
@@Ай_Яй-щ7ш Kia never sold the diesel in America, so, gasoline/petrol. The highway kinda sucks, I can still go 70 mph, but the motor is screaming. I also have the 5.38:1 diff gears from Picorp in Korea. The LSD - images.app.goo.gl/TmvpHT1gp6zGJToB6
@@KiaDave Is there enough traction for 35 inches? it would be nice to measure acceleration to 100. And the minimum speed in low gear)) to understand the numbers. what is the fuel consumption for 35 inches on the highway?
Hi Dave, I simply love these vehicles .I sold mine about a year ago and would like to get another one . My question for you is it still the standard 2L engine?
Yessir! 2.0 L I-4 DOHC, factory Automatic transmission, factory transfer case, 5.38:1 Picorp diff gears, welded rear diff, torsen LSD front, aisin locking hubs from a Mazda pickup, etc. It could definitely use more power, but there aren't a lot of options without getting expensive fast.
Cool video 01 Sportage owner here I did a 3" lift on mine it's amazing how tough these little vehicles are mine went through some of the worst Big Bend has to offer and survived.
Awesome video! What a transformation!..insane Kia! My daughters stock 2000 sportage is going to get a lift and some mudders havent decided exactly what height or tire size yet..but your build..damn! Great job!
i am a member of the SAN ANTONIO 4X4 club on facebook, and i have run with them before, but i don't join their runs very often. i should probably show up to more events, but anyway... i don't really fish, although i probably should do that as well. having said all that, i would LOVE to go running some trails or even just dirt roads or the beach with another rig or 2 or 3, it's just when the numbers of vehicles climb beyond about 5 or 6, the trail can get bogged down and that is a little less fun for me. i am trying to get the Kia guys to do a Moab thing next year, but there is so far only minor interest.
I did do a little slide show video a few days before this one. It was about the lift and the mistakes, but it was photos because I didn't film it 6 years ago when I installed it. Maybe I'll do something more in depth in the future, but for now, that one will have the best info to look at. Read the description too, all the lift info is in there.
Awesome ride! I have a ‘14 Rav4 I’ve taken down to a little past the 45 mile marker at Padre Island National Seashore. That place is awesome… This is the first video from your channel I watch. Subscribed and look looking forward to watching the videos about the Sportage. We need another PINS trip video!
thanks for subscribing and watching! we ARE planning another PINS video for next summer, where we will camp at the cut, BUT, i GOTTA check the wind situation first, we slept IN THE Kia this last time because it was a sandstorm outside!
@@KiaDave Yes! Last time I went same thing happened to me… small dune on the side of the vehicle and everything! That’s when I decided if the wind forecast was 25mph or up, I won’t go. I like to go fishing down there. Not much equipment is needed to pull out some fresh redfish or whiting!
Hi david im just asking how come your front cv doest falls off did you do any modification on it ? Mine always falls off with that hieght my ride is a 2006 sorento .hav a nice day!
I drive carefully most of the time, especially with 35's! I still push it, but I don't beat on it too much. If it's bouncing I stop. I don't try to do a steep crawl at full steering lock. Etc.
No the rear is 7.5" and the front is 7" (ring gear), different bolt pattern, different carrier size, everything. The Miata diff comes from the early 90s models, like I think around '94. I'm not 100% sure on the specifics. When I decided to buy one, it was on eBay listed for Miata, Sportage, and 1 or 2 other vehicles.
