The Pennsylvania Gradual Emancipation Act was enacted before the Constitution of the United States was adopted, but it was not the beginning of the American anti-slavery movement. The movement is rooted in the Quaker and Methodist anti-slavery sentiment of the Delmarva Peninsula. About 1767 Friends of the Third Haven Meting in Easton Maryland decided that all Friends in the meeting who held slaves would free those slaves. Third Haven was the Yearly Meeting; soon all meetings in Maryland adopted the same stance. Methodist began anti-slavery proselytizing on the Delmarva as well. Anti-slavery sentiment grew stronger, Pennsylvania adopted its emancipation act in 1780. In 1790, with the first U.S. census, the free black population of Kent County, DE exceeded the enslaved population. By 1810, 72% of the black population of Delaware was free. though the state did not adopt emancipation. By 1810 Maryland had the largest free black population of any state. Richard Allen bought his freedom after a Methodist preacher convinced Richard's owner of the immorality of slavery. Richard was enslaved in Kent County, DE. After he bought his freedom, he relocated to Philadelphia. The Methodist church welcomed black members. Black Americans did not join the Quaker faith in large numbers. Richard Allen and two other black Methodists attended the legendary Christmas Conference in Baltimore in 1783, which was the organizing meeting for the Methodist Episcopal church in America (now called United Methodist). Kent County DE stands out because two very effective abolitionists lived there for a period of time, Quaker Warner Mifflin and Methodist Freeborn Garrettson, although they were situated at opposite ends on the county. +++

Philadelphia is a unique place. Society Hill was almost destroyed by urban renewal.IMPeis ugly buildings dot the city especially the Society Hill towers. Fortunately the Crosstown Expressway was stopped,it was a Robert Moses style horror that would have cut Center City off from South Philadelphia. Unfortunately I95 was built and there’s no through streets between Race and Washington,except for a Mickey Mouse crossing at Market street. I won’t even mention the Disneyland of University City,for that’s a tale for another time.

The bathrooms in Frankford terminal are never open...maybe once or twice per week...so where do you think people go to the bathroom...usually the elevators...but ultimately wherever they want. Philly police nowadays are like unicorns...you rarely see them. I could go on and on...but im sure you get the picture. I didn't mention it...but philly is ground zero for the real pandemic not the fake fauci one they destroy the country with....im talking about the fentanyl/tranq zombie pandemic that is 100% being allowed to take place...just like the Biden administration is 100% allowing the border to stay wide open as illegals and fentanyl flow into the US. Remember....millions of illegal Aliens have come here with no plans to assimilate...as a matter of fact...they are encouraged not to assimilate into American culture...they haven't paid one cent into social security...taxes...nothing. But they will use every resource available and suck the US dry. As I learn more about the original Quakers, I am finding validation for my own experiences and beliefs. The original Quaker belief was that God is Love and that we can directly connect to God through our own Hearts. And I realize the truth in this, because I've had profound experiences with it, since going through a grieving/healing process in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Since then I have felt that when we release the suppressed pain that blocks our Hearts, we automatically connect more deeply with Love/Light/God and bring more Love and compassion into our world. Many people have put me down and thought I was crazy. So, I am glad to be able to back up my realization with a stand for people who had also found the same reality many centuries ago - the original Quakers. I feel much less alone now, even though I do not know if any of the original Quakers still exist or any had realized how people can deepen their direct connection to God, through focusing on healing their own Hearts - through focusing on releasing the suppressed emotional pain that blocks their Hearts and through avoiding feeling numbing pharmaceuticals and other substances that block people's Hearts from Love/God. I have also found that visualizing things like pure white Light pouring down from the heavens and filling our Heart can help deepen our connection to Love/Light/God. Try it a see for yourself.
