Ya, never got to see them. They were going to play in Chicago (I lived in Indy) and the only way to get tickets was to get a coupon from the Chicago tribune and mail it in. I got the paper from the Indy airport but it was not the "metro" edition so it did not have it. I found a airline pilot that was doing a round trip and gave him $20 for five papers to bring back. I went home put on the radio and started dancing until the DJ announced John Bonham had died (20 Sep 1980). I still have the papers with the full page ad.
I've been playing this song on drums every day for the past two months. Never gets boring. The bass drum and snare triplets with a single pedal is the hardest part but once you get that down the song is easy and fun.
I've been to London, seen seven wonders I know to trip is just to fall I used to rock it, sometimes I'd roll it I always knew what it was for There can be no denying, that the wind'll shake 'em down And the flat world's flying, and there's a new plague on the land (If we could just join hands) (If we could just join) Traversed the planet, when heaven sent me I saw the kings who rule them all Still by the firelight and purple moonlight I hear the rested rivers call And the wind is crying, from a love that won't grow cold My lover, she is lying, on the dark side of the globe (If we could just join hands) You got me rocking when I ought to be a-rolling Darling, tell me, darling, which way to go You keep me rocking, baby, then you keep me stolen Won't you tell me, darling, which way to go, that's right Oh how I wonder, oh how I worry, and I would dearly like to know I've all this wonder, of earthly plunder, will it leave us anything to show And our time is flying, see the candle burning low Is the new world rising, from the shambles of the old (If we could just join hands) If we could just, if we could just, if we could just If we could just, if we could just join hands That's all it takes, that's all it takes That's all it takes, that's all it takes
Yes, I have the song book, listened to isolated lyrics and scoured the internet. The only thing I am not sure of is the next stop's "underground" and how low "underground" and so says the song book. But if you listen to the O2 live it sounds like "on the ground" and Plant is known to change the live lyrics.
Meanwhile, in California Stockton caterpillar tractor was getting geared up to replace all those 40 mule teams, and hundreds of thousands of laborers anyway So luckily, they moved north, because they would’ve been displaced workers with the coming era of tractors And that’s how gasoline and gasoline powered tractors changed our entire country, and made us the bread basket for the world Caterpillar tractors had a lot to do with that right around the same time In California has earthquakes But it also had mass areas of desert, which it was able to divert water and put housing and agriculture Tractors the face of the United States also Gasoline powered engines for sure, since then Maybe it was God that made that happen so they get out of there and get up north and get away from those damn Yankees and their confederate flags
Nothing but praise of the highest level in this comment section. And rightly so. It's truly a masterpiece. The history behind it is very eye opening as well with deep, deep roots in early blues.
Man the timing on the snare bass and top hat.... It's freaking perfect Pants and Boots with a couple extra boots in it. I don't know anyone that can pull that timing off that perfectly without electronics.

@@plumbum_zeppelin With respect, not so sure about that 1/2 step man. Say, I'm tuned to Black Dog on Led Zep IV, it's from that A tuning I get a straight F key from Page's guitar, for playing along to when the levee breaks. I play black dog & stairway, and everything else in open E. Converted to the Trucks way in 2006 and haven't looked back. What a journey😅
I have read this in several places and heard it discussed by musicians but this is the only place I could find a direct ref in the foot notes on short notice. The pitch may be right on but it was higher before it was slowed down. "Portions of the song were recorded at a different tempo, then slowed down, explaining the "sludgy" sound, particularly on the harmonica and guitar solos." en.m.wikipedia.org › wiki When the Levee Breaks - Wikipedia
@@plumbum_zeppelin I hear ye man. Fair enough point. But with respect, I'm playin a long time (giggin a long time too) and the set up I suggest works for playin along to Led Zep IV, if anyone wants to try it. Wikipedia & several sources might mean well, but they ain't playin it, ain't a guitar and ain't Page on Led Zep IV; my direct source since about 1991.
Its sad too that they never played it live together as a band. I think there is a warm up RU-vid video but I really don't like Page's and Plant's later versions... JPJ's playing for change was not bad
