I had my male car neutered last week and he was more upset by having to wear a cone than the actual operation. He was about 20 months old. He was very active the day I brought him home but slept quite a lot the day after. I think I was as stressed about the cone as he was. It got in the way of everything, eating and grooming and scratching himself. When we took him to the vet 3 days later for his check up the vet said we could leave it off but to keep an eye on him to make sure he wasn't licking too much. He just groomed himself and then carried on as if nothing had happened, playing and jumping about everywhere. I'm glad we didn't have to leave the cone on for a week.
