Hello DigitalRetro. I shoots cooking videos in the kitchen. Is the RF 24mm suitable for this?
@DigitalRetro
@DigitalRetro 2 дня назад
Sure. Especially if you own the full frame body it will give you some wider FOV for the macro and talking head shots. I think it's a great lens for food videos and photography!

I didn't like this lens much. My copy has very noticable vignetting. Not the soft, subtile vignetting that draws your attention to the central subject, but harsh vignetting that looks like a mistake. So I rarely use it. Your girlfriend is cute.

I guess you had a faulty model. I had this issue with other lens but sent it back and got replacement that was OK. I guess the QC sometimes doesn't get the job done. However I ran into dusty off the shelf lenses from Fuji as well and had to return them. The model is not my girlfirend, but I will pass the praise to her :) Cheers!

YT just recommended me this because I've been watching a lot of videos about the R10 (would be my first camera). That's a very cool video, bro. Also I found it useful to get a better look at how things look with 24mm on a crop sensor. Would you recommed 24, 35 or 50mm for a versatile portrait lens (indoors or outdoors), considering the crop magnification?
@DigitalRetro
@DigitalRetro 19 дней назад
Thanks for the feedback mate!- always good to know how people find my vids. Since I'm all out 35mm shooter with the FF, I am a fan of 23/24 mm lens for crop sensors - however for typical portrait lens for aps-c. I'd probably choose the 35mm. It's a nifty fifty equivalent and will get you better bokeh for close up shots and will be usable in many indoor situations, where the 50mm(85 on FF) would probalby be too tight. On the other hand if you like environmental ports - the 24 would be better. But, yeah, for the sweet spot - 35mm is probably the best. Cheers!
@h.bonetti
@h.bonetti 18 дней назад
@@DigitalRetro that's exactly what I want: a reliable lens for portraits with good looking bokeh, while for other purposes the kit lens will have to do for a while. So I'm probably getting the 35mm to have a nifty fifty. Thank you very much, brother!

Great series on the GR. I have an older GR digital iv 10 mega pixel model. It has the built in flash : ) I Plan to get a GR IIIX soon, Maybe even the GR IIIX HDF. I was wondering if you could share where you got your lovely orangy yellow wrist strap? Thank you so much.
@DigitalRetro
@DigitalRetro 21 день назад
Thank you for the kind words! The GRIIIX is a better option imho, because it's got the built in ND filter and you can always put the diffusion if needed through the filter mount. As for the belt - it's a Polaroid orange belt - easy to buy on amazon or other platforms for like 15 bucks! Cheers!

LOVE the part about the joy of new gear and where that takes you. A few months back, I bought a 10 year old Sony A6000 and a couple of lenses. Loved it. But that deep urge to have a Fujifilm x100vi overtook me and I bought one on eBay (for more than list price, because why not make it even MORE of a sin?). I keep both on the desk right next to each other as a reminder that I'm good. I have a fixed lens and I have an interchangeable lens. I have an old camera, and I have of the newest cameras. I have these two guys, and also over the last 15 or so years, I have 3 little point and shoots, too. So 5 in all. I think five is plenty. :) (Too many)
@DigitalRetro
@DigitalRetro Месяц назад
Thanks for the kind words, Chris! Really appreciate this! Haha, the 5 cameras is actually cool to have. I currently try to stick to 3. The trinity I will actually use in different scenarios. If I stop using one of the cameras, I sell it and get another one. However having something like "plenty" is impossible for us, photographers I guess. The urge of having another one will eventually take over 😅 It's just a matter of time. But hey, you gotta have some addiction in life, right? I'd love to get the X100VI, but for the price I can get the A7C2 which will be more effective in the long run. I really wish that X100's would go back to the price they sold before the X100V(which is of course impossible now, especially that Fuji admitted that they will continue the low supply to keep the high demand and prices). But never say never - as my wallet gets thicker I may succumb to the X100VI in the future :) Cheers and keep collecting them cameras!

Really love this video and the questions you brought up. Also, loved the pic of the woman kicking. Fun how you allow some blur into your pics because those come out more interesting to me. What I think I love about street is that it's NOT posed. What I love about portrait is that it's a creative endeavor. What's right down the middle of the two is that you tend to want people as subjects for both, and I love seeing pictures of people. :)

Enjoyed your perspective! I have the 35mm f2 as well and I find it is my most creative and engaging lens and nearly always the first one I put on my XPro. It’s so small and jewel like, it urges you to try different angles and just have some fun moving around your subject or scene. Maybe try the 50mm f2? Insanely sharp and great for portraits, abstract street and even capturing action shots!
@DigitalRetro
@DigitalRetro Месяц назад
Thank you for the kind words. So jealous of the XPro with 35 f2! I haven't shot 85mm equivalent a lot lately, but I suppose the 50 f2 could be nice for portraits and sneaky street. I am still thinking about the "trio" for my XT30ii. The 35 is on board with some manual 24 maybe coming, and 50 f/2 is somewhat tempting! I will keep that in mind!

@@DigitalRetro my trio for travel is the 16mm f2.8, 35mm f2 and 50mm f2. All lenses are beautifully small and fun and they are roughly 24mm/50mm/75mm FF focal lengths. They’re a good even spread and very reasonable on the used market.😁

It depends on the situation, but mostly AF-S mode. I actually rarely got missed focus with it. You should check the lens or the camera with different lenses to rule out the camera AF problems. The Zfc with 28 2.8 is very snappy TBH.

This camera is so over hyped it's unbelievable. I finally bought one to see what all the fuss was about and really hate it. And the main reason is that the screen is one of the absolute worst I've ever come across. It's truly terrible and in anything like daylight you can't see a bloody thing. And it doesn't tilt. Jesus, you would have thought by now Ricoh would have updated this thing. But I suppose with so much hype being spread they just couldn't be bothered. I'm flogging the god damnedthing right now....I'll stick to my brilliant Fujis and Leicas thanks...

Settle down, mate. It's not worth the high BP you get from such outbursts. I use Sony, Fuji, Canon and RIcoh now and all of them have pros and cons. GR series is unique, compact and offers great IQ. Like I said it's not a camera for everyone, but it's definitely great and fun to have one. Also I don't see the hype for it as much as for example X100V and X100VI. Cheers!

@@DigitalRetro LOL, not an outburst at all - you should see me when I do have one ! Obviously every camera has it's own merits but there are so many Ricoh fanboys out there extoling it's virtues you'd think it was a gift from god. But as we all know, god doesn't exist. Sure, it's handy to be able to slip this thing into your pocket but nothing else is good about it at all....Have fun...

Hello. I have been looking at optics from this company for a long time. The Nokton Classic series has an interesting design. Modern autofocus optics do not produce such a soft and plastic image. And it’s very nice that Voigtlander pleases photographers with such optics, from working with which you get the warmest emotions. I’ve been shooting with manual lenses for 7 years now, although I also have excellent autofocus ones. But manual ones (from the 70s) give me real pleasure from photography. I shoot mainly with a Canon FD 50mm 1.4 s.s.c. As soon as finances allow, I will buy myself a lens similar to yours. I wish you creative success with great photos!

I NEVER use a Lens shorter than 55mm for portraits, it should not be allowed, it does NOT look good !

Hi, nice review. I have similar thoughts. Although I'm interested about your comment to using this lens with and without adapter - that lens is less sharp with adapter. Can you say more abut it? Is it your experience or can you share source of this info? I'm using it with adapter on Leica SL body and TechArt adapter (with autofocus) on Sony body and sometimes photo is less sharp than expected. And I wonder if I switched to native mount how much better results I'll get.
@DigitalRetro
@DigitalRetro 2 месяца назад
Thanks man. What I meant is that the E-mount version is sharp and overall works better than M-Mounts. This is due to difference of the Sony/Leica sensor thickness. Sony has the low-pass filter that is generally thicker and when using the non E-mount voigtlanders on Sony you will get less sharp image with more haze and CA. I've noticed it on all Landers I used with adapters on my Sony, with Heliar 50 1.5 being the worst of them all, so I really recommend the E version when using on Sony cameras.

The main issue with this lens for me is the depth of field scale only goes to 2m before infinity. My VL 40mm 1.2 also has markings for 3m and 5m. If I focused this 35mm lens to infinity at f8, for example, I have no idea of the closest in focus point. I’d still like to try this lens as it’s smaller and lighter than my 40mm and could make an alternative option. I definitely like character lenses and black and white street photography and this lens could be ideal for that. The price does seem a little steep though.
