I love learning about the Kanjo and all the cool car culture in Japan. The bit talking about what true JDM is, anything from the Supra backward but he has a point.
The person saying that what young people in Japan are doing is not truly JDM because they are being influenced from an outside party is living in the past a bit. It happens to us all. They think that because it has evolved and changed to be something other than what they grew up with it is no longer real or true. That is just a silly way to think. Everything changes and evolves. This is JDM now, theirs was a different generation. It's a shockingly boomer-esque attitude displayed there.
I respect Kanjo culture, but it is just a part of Japanese street car culture, and as a Japanese person, I don't think it refers to JDM itself. The style commonly called JDM is based on a tuned car for running on Tokyo's Wangan and C1. The Civic used by the Kanjo tribe is not very common in Japan other than Osaka. In Japan, it is more common to call it "tuned car" rather than JDM.
You can love Ferrari, You can Love Lamborghini for amazing Car.. U can be Monster with that American Muscle style.. but Japanese got something else.. Just one Brand and they become Popular *Change My MIND!
