I'm sure you covered this but what is the height of the wood used as a frame? 20 mm? Really enjoyed your work!

Wait how did you get the chipped face? I only saw you use a tile saw to cut the glass. Maybe that was a different series.

Why not use sanded Grout? Basically colored cement.

Also, do you use the opposite (square) end of the hammer in the same striking method?

How is it that your epoxy didn't seep through all the way to the bottom of the dalles, with such a thin layer of gravel?

Hello David - thank you for making these videos! My epoxy is running under my dalles, covering them underneath, sometimes with a thin layer and sometimes a thicker layer. I'm using black aquarium sand as my grit, and even though I'm laying down almost 1/2" of sand, the epoxy makes it all the way through and finds its way under my glass! What might I be doing wrong? Thanks so much!

David.....How do you apply resin into very narrow spaces between Dalles in a design? I have no problem with 1/2 inch space for resin, but I would like to have some very narrow lines. My problem occurs when the resin will not flow to the grit on the bottom....one pour method. Is there a tool that can be used to force the resin to fill the space or something that would make resin more fluid. Thanks

I use a long thin nail and run it down through the resin. Also I start with the very narrow gaps while the resin is still at its runniest consistency. I hope that helps?

@@davidlilly4442 Thanks for the tip; My problem may be in my design. Some of my lines are so close, pieces of glass may actually touch so maybe I will have to change glass to matrix ratio or "glue" some pieces together using colored resin.

Luv it!!!! I have experiemented with an outdoor art, with wire mesh and concrete and thick glass stars bought while on vacation in Mexico. I cut out the wire mesh(double layered), where the stars go, and after putting in the glass stars, I skim coated the wire mesh, and after drying, hardening, I mosaiced with mirror(for the bling factor) and mortared it onto a brick stand, so it is vertical/upright in the garden! But now I have discovered wedi board!!! Which comes in 1/4",1/2",&1"...so let the experiments commence!!!

What kind of gravel/grit is correct for creating dalle de verre? I imagine there may be many different kinds.

Hey David, how did these guys get the shape of this? www.ebay.com/itm/123835814729?ul_noapp=true I imagine they used a buck or mold, but Epoxy would have never been possible with this curve? Lead the only option??

You just got a new subscriber! And you have the right accent too! I have embarked on a journey to figure out and replicate turn of the century Austrian chunk jewel to incorporate with my bronze work. Here in the states on my doorstep, I have a peter marsh light from Birmingham and it's a sweetheart. Looking at this thing today, it appears dalle de verre was done with lead back in the day in the 1950's by the house of peter marsh. Is that even possible? The didn't have high tech resins back then so maybe?? Please take a peek at my channel if you have a moment. I am presently attempting to cast glass into the needed shapes. :-/ Only because I notice a theme with some of the glass shapes. Here is an example. www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwipqqC3vc_jAhVNRKwKHeUuALAQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fnyshowplace.com%2Faustrian-art-nouveau-cast-bronze-brass-table-lamp-with-chunk-glass-jewels.html&psig=AOvVaw1gqfovgtFoq48umU1RdQqJ&ust=1564123770875389 Hope to hear from you again. Thanks for making these videos, they shed light on something I haven't found yet!

What kind of epoxy resin do you use?

Great work! I have a couple of questions. Would you be able to make these with regular grout instead of epoxy? Also, I was wondering what brand of epoxy you're using. Thanks:)
@davidlilly627
@davidlilly627 7 лет назад
Hi Andrew. I suspect that 'regular grout' would not have the structural integrity required. I buy my epoxy from here: www.epoxy-info.co.uk/resins_shop.htm#StructuralPouring

Your video lost sound between 1:26 and 2:52. You may have been talking about Latex at that time (not sure since no sound on video). Was the Latex in the video used for mold making?

Need more info on the Latex please. Is it water base Latex, latex ceramic resist, latex body paint etc. Maybe a brand name would help me find the product. Nice video, great ideas.

Hi Charles. Thanks for your kind comments. The latex is a commercial one from Formulated Polymer Products (code FP1792) in Bury, Lancashire.

Thanks for the reply. I ordered liquid latex locally in Florida, USA.....it is Ammonia based, but may work if I can stand the smell.
