Looks fun out on a yak but not sure I'd like the boat traffic. Nice catch, been a good year for them. I'd personally half the size of the baits for less dropped runs and a better hook up rate.
@@byronnewman890 The boat traffic that day was unusual they must have had a race but scary how quickly they go past at those speeds. I do half my bait sizes but I find it sometimes attracts the wrong target like dogfish and congers. Also when I half the bait sizes the hook up ends up being deeper and harder to get the hook out plus the cable gets bitten through.
Well done Rob, great fish and well earned. I'd of upped anchor and moved with those boats screaming past, you don't stand a chance if they don't see you. Why did you beach launch is the slip real slippery now or can't you get to it since they've done the works on it ?
@@PELTY100 Cheers mate I did think about moving but I noticed after the first two boats they started passing further away I wondered if they all comms to each other. The ramp is completely covered in green slippery weed it’s impossible to walk on. The beach isn’t too bad when there aren’t any waves 🌊
@@MobiliaRepairs Not very long I’ve been lucky this year I’ve had 4 or 5 Tope runs in 3 sessions but only managed two to the kayak. Ive really struggled with Mackerel. Though.
Hello! Guys What hook size you use for mackerel or another small fish (for bait)? i use size 1 but is seems to be to big becouse i never catch something 😂
@@mogz00002 No worries glad it helped. Its hard with kayak fishing there is so many different opinion’s on what is a good setup. I’ve changed mine many times and Ive been happy with how it’s setup now for sometime. You can add so many gadgets like fish finders more comfortable seats etc I prefer a lighter setup less to wash down and easier to paddle.
@@Theyakler id love some advice on what would be a good beginner set up. I do like the kayak you have and was told that 13ft is a good length for moving quicker through the water and stability. But I'm not that clued up.
@@mogz00002 If you plan on fishing more than a couple hundred meters from the shore I would recommend a 13foot kayak they more stable and easier to paddle. Peddle kayaks are becoming popular but they so expensive. I know a few people selling their kayaks if you join the kayak Fishing UK Facebook page or other pages like the one I run Kayak Fishing Portsmouth there is usually some good secondhand setups.
@@Theyakler I was looking at getting sunfish double sit on top leisure kayak 2 plus 1. As my boy is 13 and he wants to fish to. We live in South Wales so some nice bays down by us that would be good to start. We start in close first to see how we go lol
Wow Great video !!! I just brough a kayak!! I been twice all day long and i catch only some breams with small hooks 0.6 i want third time to try exacly how you do but i need to know the size of line braided/,mono any brand? And size of the hooks please? Cheers
I’m a kayak sea fisher from North Yorkshire, I’m loving your videos. Your dog is a star, I have a German shepherd who is my best mate and goes everywhere with me.👍🐟
@@Theyakler They are the main fish used in our version of fish and chips here. When used that way, we call them flake. They eat very well. One of the few I take home.
For the slipway and rocks generally take a worn out pair of watershoes and stick soles cut out of Scotch-brite or similar with impact adhesive. Works a treat on slimey slipways.
Excellent video mate. *Lola: Bait Digger Extraordinaire!* I've had luck using those little sliding rubber bait stops and either a 8mm bead or a couple of stacked sequins to hold rag/lug baits down and stopping them from sliding up the snood.
Cheers mate. Yeah Lola loves bait collecting she craves work and just wants to get stuck in. I’ve done the bead and stopper trick in the past I need to do that next time 👌
Cool idea. Have you tested breaking the quick tie on your anchor? It looks too thick to me. I use the same system on my 18.5’ fiberglass boat and that’s about the thickness of a tie strap I use. I think your kayak doesn’t have enough buoyancy or stability to be able to pull hand enough to break it. Secondly, if you need to use tie straps to hold your knots together something is wrong. Either you’re using the wrong rope or your knot is the wrong one. Try proper marine rope or just use a “Boline” knot. Best knot ever. I’ve used them for decades. Never ever slip and can always be released by hand even after pulling a 21’ cabinet cruiser off a beach at low tide. Check it out. You will be amazed. I really like you anchor trolley. I’m going to build a mini “Rocna” anchor for my kayak and use your connection method. I’d love to hear back from you about your impression of the boline knot. Thanks for your video.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! Thanks for sharing! What a beautiful dog 🐶 ❤! I’m looking into ideas to go hiking first time with my cockapoo- she will love this path!!!
It’s for emergency situations if I get into trouble I can communicate with other boats or kayakers I’m fishing with. It’s also safer to use than a wet mobile phone screen in the event I fall into the water.
Great video as always 😁 I do a bit of kayak fishing off sandbanks, poole, please can you recommend best set up to catch mackerel? feather or foil? Hook size? Do you weight with a weight or a lure? Cheers!!
