ABOUT ME: Born and raised in Detroit. Lover of all kinds of classic cars and trucks since I learned to drive. Today I work in television and media.
When my dad was shopping at the Ford dealer in 1985 for an escort. They had both versions of the Ford Escort. The early 85 model and this one pictured here the mid-year introduction 85 and a half Ford Escort. My father looked at both versions at the Ford dealer. I remember there being brochures for both cars at the dealer
This model Ford Escort for 1985 was actually introduced in mid-year. Earlier in the year they were still selling the 1981 to 1984 version. This escort is considered the 1985 1/2 or 1985.5 this body style was a mid-year introduction
That announcer sounds familiar. I heard a voice like this on that early pre launch pitch for Cartoon Network. Anyway, I dig the look of these old Ford compact cars!
I owned a 86 Escort and a 88 Escort Gt The GT was a little Beast I don't know if all were designed like this but I found out it had a spring activated door in the Air Box and when you got it about 60-70 MPH and hammered the Gas it opened and gave it more fresh air, Then it took off like a little Rocket 🚀 I mean it wasn't mind altering but you definitely knew it.
Back in the day when trucks were the perfect size to get any job done and so easy to work on you. You didn’t have to bring it to mechanic all the time like you have to nowadays. They also look a hell of a lot more attractive compared to today’s trucks of any brand. Ford had it right on the money when they made trucks from the late 70s to the early 90s. Everything nowadays are both overpriced and overrated.
