苹果具有自交不亲和特性，即同一品种内自花授粉，极少结果或结果的数量不能满足生产需求，需用不同品种的花粉授粉，才能正常结果。这种现象也称为自花不结实或异花结实，受苹果自交不亲和基因S控制。
