This was the first radio my parents had. I had no permission to touch it. Now that I'm almost 60, this brings back memories and I'm looking to buy one (just for me😊). Do you know what that ''car'' switch is used for by any chance? It's something I've always wondered since I was 6 (true! 🙂). Thank you for the nice presentation. Hugs from Belgium !
In case anyone is interested, I came up with a long-awaited Normende Globetraveler Short Wave Bands modification. Goodbye long dial string. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7_ZXtjgSwp0.html
The radio uses about 5 watts at maximum power... I would recommend a power adapter of about 7-10 watts. Also, due to the fact that most modern power adapters are switchmode supplies, you need to be careful when choosing them. The switchmode supplies are introducing a LOT of parasites/noise on all of the am bands and sometimes even on FM. You vill get very poor reception using such a power adapter. The good power adapters are the ones that have real transformers in them. You can recognize them by the weight and bulkiness compared to the newer ones. Also, you need to check the polarity of the connector, + to plus and - to minus. Otherwise, you risk destroying the final stage of the audio amplifier of the radio, and then, getting replacement germanium transistors will be a nightmare. Finally, I recommend you give up on the whole idea of running this radio on any kind of adapter. These radios were made to be carried along, to use batteries, and that they do very efficiently. The radio can run on some good alkaline batteries for 200-400 hours, depending on the volume you listen at. That translates into months of daily usage. I would say that is enough, wouldn't you? Plus, on the batteries you will get much better reception quality, with most of the parasites/noise introduced by adaptors (even the transformer ones introduce some) gone.
Nice! Hmmm, your deck seems to have the same problem as mine (CR-8000), sounds wobbly. Overal great fix. Did you replaced the bulbs with warm white LEDs (like I did)? The clock looks really nice. EDIT: The answer is at the description 🙃🥱😀👍
Nice! I have the Bajazzo CR 8000 and fix it in very great condition hower the tapedeck (seems to be the same as yours) is a really a nightmare. Very unusual design, very weird cabinet design. Replaced all of the rubber wheels, add a little piece of heatshrink for the capstan engage wheel next to it to get a better grip and played with different sizes and types of belts. Everything works great, rewind, ff, autostop is working correctly, quality of sound is good but the speed is wobbly (a lot of wow). It seems that the flywheel is a little wobbly and cause the belt to oscilate/vibrate that makes the speed even worse. What kind of belt did you use to make it work correctly? Did you experience the same problem I have? Thanks for any reply.
Nice radio, I own the same one with black vinyl finish. I guess the lack of bass is caused by the output transformer in the AF amplifier, neccessary as the output transistors in this early design are no complemantary types.
Maybe the transformer, but I don't know, it is pretty good size... I have some others from the same era or even earlier with transformers, and those transformers sure looked similar in size. But, for example, an Schaub-Lorenz Touring 40, 50, 70, or 80 or Europa (they have pretty similar internals, the series ran for almost 10 years, from the early 60s until early 70s - all 13x18 cm speaker same size as the bajazzo), well they all are in a whole different league when it comes to sound quality. Even the small "weekend" models from that era sound better (9.5×15 cm speaker). Those have so much bass that it rattles the plastic cases, and I had to put sponges inside. I think the problem with the bajazzo series of that era (i have two 201ts models, this 301, and two" bajazzo de luxe"ones, the same problem in all) might be some components in the tone circuit, but really, the time it would take me to experiment with them all, and all the replacing between them, it would be days. I'm not so thrilled about it as I have plenty others to work on as well. I also thought it was the speaker, thought the membrane hardened, but no, ir sounds just fine put in other radios outputs and also other speakers sound the same with it. Really weird one. And yes, I adjusted the no signal current of the output transistors, no change as well. Finally, with some others, I played with some caps in the tone circuit, but all it did was just cut the treble. That I can do to the point of almost no treble, but it still doesn't sound right.... The smaller "bajazzo sport " ones from the same series sound better, just more defined. Not much more bass, but those have a 7.5x13 cm speaker, transformers, and germanium transistors, too. It is really weird that the big brothers cannot beat them.
Oh, I forgot, how does yours sound? Did you replace the capacitors in it? Also the red oily 10...100 nF ones (those go way off in value, the plastic gets brittle and they crack), i think this radio has like 2...3 of them. Any difference in sound before you replaced them and after? (For mine there was nothing much noticeable)
