Somehow I missed this movie saw all the episodes. Then rescue from Gilligan's Island. Didn't they try and revive the show with episodes of them making it a resort island for tourists.
Sherwood and Lloyd Schwartz were approached by NBC to revive the series after Rescue's success. This movie was a test pilot, hence the second half converting to a resort storyline. The Schwartzes decided against a series because the cast were getting too old to do some of the physical comedy. Also, as only the cast and a few others knew at the time, Jim Backus had Parkinson's. Sherwood and Lloyd compromised with NBC to do a franchise of annual TV movies, simular to what NBC later did with Perry Mason. Unfortunately, by the of the third movie, Jim's Parkinson's had progressed that he could only barely do a cameo at the end. That was what really caused the end of future movies.
Trust me, if Dean didn't want to be there, he would not have been there. Jan bugged Dean for nearly 2 years to re-unite before Dean finally said yes !! :)
